Palakkad pronunciation , also known as Palghat, is a city and municipality in the state of Kerala in southern India, spread over an area of 26.60 km2 and is the administrative headquarters of the Palakkad District. The city is situated about 350 kilometres north of state capital Thiruvananthapuram and 54 kilometers south west of Coimbatore, and 66 km north east of Thrissur on the Salem-Kanyakumari National Highway NH 47.

Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, which also includes the erstwhile Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, is a 391 square kilometres protected area in Chittur taluk in Palakkad district of Kerala state, South India. The wildlife sanctuary, which had an area of 285 square kilometres was established in 1973. It is in the Sungam range of hills between the Anaimalai Hills and Nelliampathy Hills. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as part of the Parambikulam Tiger Reserve on February 19, 2010. Including the buffer zone, the tiger reserve has a span of 643.66 km2. The Western Ghats, Anamalai Sub-Cluster, including all of Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site. Pothundi Dam is an irrigation dam near Pothundi village in the Palakkad district of Kerala state, India. Constructed in the 19th century, it is considered one of the oldest dams in India. It provides irrigation to an area of 5,470 hectares in the Palakkad district and drinking water supply to the Nemmara, Ayalur, Melarcode Panchayat. An unusual feature of the earth dam is the core wall, which is built with a mixture of jaggery and quick lime. A popular festival held on the shores of the reservoir is known as the Nemmara Vallengi Vela Festival.

Mangalam dam is constructed across the river Cherukunnapuzha which is a tributary of Mangalam river. A canal system for irrigation purpose was completed and opened in 1966, in the Alathur taluk of Palakkad district in Kerala, South India. Most of the inhabitants come from, Perumbavoor Kottayam or Chalakkudy. There are rubber, pepper, coffee, and tapioca plantations in the area. Mangalam dam is 16 km away from Vadakkencherry. Karimkayam, Earth Dam, Odenthode, Kunjiarpathy, Kavilupara, Vattapara, Neethipuram, Ponkandam, Kadappara, Uppumanne, Olipara, Balaswaram-V.R.T and Choorupara are also in the area. A big landslide occurred in Kavilupara near to Odenthode during the 2007 floods.You can also see thick forest in the area of Karimkayam, Odenthode, Kadappara.

Lying in the lap of Western Ghats, Nelliyampathy Hills are decorated with a wonderful sight of tea, coffee, cardamom and Orange plantation.

We explored Nelliyampathy Hills and stayed at Leaf and Roots which is bungalow in the forest. Places to visit in Nelliampathy are Pothundy dam, Kesavanpara, Seetharkund, Suicide point, Karappara Hanging bridge.

Standing loftily at an elevation varying from 467 m to 1572 m above the sea level, the hill provides the visitors with a chance for trekking as well as a breath taking view of Palakkad.
