Kuakata (Bengali: কুয়াকাটা) is a town known for its panoramic sea beach. It is located in south-eastern Bangladesh, and is the number two tourist destination in the country. Kuakata beach is a sandy expanse 18 kilometres (11 mi) long and 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) wide. From the beach one can have an unobstructed view of both sunrise and sunset over the Bay of Bengal.
Kuakata offers a full view of the sunrise and sunset from the same white sandy beach in the water of the Bay of Bengal. Locally known as Shagor Kannya (Daughter of ocean), the long strip of dark, marbled sand stretches for about 18 kilometres (11 mi). The long and wide beach at Kuakata has a typical natural setting. This sandy beach has gentle slopes into the Bay of Bengal. Kuakata is also a sanctuary for migratory winter birds.
On the eastern end of the beach is Gongamati Reserved Forest, an evergreen mangrove forest and snippet of the original Kuakata. When the Rakhines settled in the area in 1784, Kuakata was part of the larger Sundarbans forest. However, the Sundarbans is now at a distance of one-hour by speed boat. As a mangrove forest, Gongamati, like the Sundarbans, offers some protection against tidal surges, however it too is being threatened by logging and deforestation. The best way to reach the forest is by foot or bike along the beach, where a flock of flag flying fishing boats can be seen trawling the coast. Choosing to visit Gangamati in the late afternoon is a perfect time to watch the sun cast shadows on the abstract exposed mangrove roots.
The name Kuakata originated from the word Kua English word “Well” dug on the sea shore by the early Rakhine settlers in quest of collecting drinking water, who landed on Kuakata coast after getting expelled from the Arakan (Myanmar) by Moughals. Afterwards, it has become a tradition of digging Kua-Well in the neighborhood of Rakhaine tribes for water.

The unique customs and costumes of the ‘Rakhyne’ tribal families and Buddhist Temple of about hundred years old indicate the ancient tradition and cultural heritage, which are objects of great pleasure Kuakata is the place of pilgrimage of the Hindus and Buddhist communities.
Innumerable devotees arrive here at the festival of ‘Rush Purnima’ and ‘Maghi Purnima’. On these two days they take holy bath and traditional fairs are held here. All these additional offers to panoramic beauty make the beach more attractive to the visitors. One should visit Kuakata and discover the lovely grace of Bangladesh.

✿ বগা লেক
বগাকাইন হ্রদ বা বগা লেক বান্দরবান জেলা শহর থেকে প্রায় ৭০ কিলোমিটার দূরে রুমা উপজেলাস্থ কেওক্রাডং পর্বতের কাছে অবস্থিত বাংলাদেশের সর্বোচ্চ উচ্চতার স্বাদু পানির হ্রদ। বগা লেক ঘিরে রয়েছে এক রহস্যময় গল্প।
✿ সোয়াচ অব নো গ্রাউন্ড
মেঘনা নদী আর সাগরের মিলিত হওয়ার জায়গা বা মোহনাকে উপনিবেশ শাসনামলে ব্রিটিশরা সোয়াচ অব নো গ্রাউন্ড বা অতলস্পর্শী নামকরন করেন। তৎকালীন ব্রিটিশদের মতে সমুদ্রের এই জায়গাটির কোন তল বা সীমা নেই।
✿ লালবাগ কেল্লার সুড়ঙ্গ
লালবাগ কেল্লা নিয়ে মানুষের মুখে মুখে অনেক কাহিনী প্রচলিত আছে। বিশেষ করে লালবাগ কেল্লার সুড়ঙ্গ সম্পর্কিত আলোচনা বহুল প্রচলিত। এই সুড়ঙ্গের বিশেষ রহস্য হল, একবার এখানে প্রবেশ করলে আর ফিরে আসা যায় না অর্থাৎ এই সুড়ঙ্গে প্রবেশকারীকে আর খুঁজে পাওয়া যায় না।
✿ ফয়েস লেক
সৌন্দর্য্য ও বিনোদনের জন্য ফয়েস লেক একটি প্রসিদ্ধ নাম। তবে নজরকাড়া সৌন্দর্য্যের সাথে সাথে ফয়েস লেক কে ঘিরে নানান রকম গল্প প্রচলিত আছে। প্রায়শই শুনা যায় এখানে সাদা ও কালো পোশাক পরিহিত দুই রহস্যময় নারী ঘোরাফেরা করে।
✿ চলন বিল
চলন বিল দেশি বিদেশি পর্যটকদের কাছে সমান আকর্ষণীয় একটি দর্শনীয় স্থান। জানা যায় অতিপ্রাকৃত ক্ষমতার অধিকারী জমিদারের মৃত্যুর রাতেই এখানে তিনটি মন্দির গড়ে উঠে এবং মন্দিরগুলো পর দিনই আপনা আপনি ভেঙ্গে যায়। এরপর থেকে স্থানীয় লোকজনের সাথে ঘটে যাচ্ছে বিভিন্ন রহস্যময় ঘটনা।
✿ গানস অব বরিশাল
ব্রিটিশ শাসনামলে বাকেরগঞ্জ হিসাবে পরিচিত বরিশালের তৎকালীন ব্রিটিশ সিভিল সার্জন প্রথম 'গানস অব বরিশাল' ঘটনাটি প্রকাশ করেন। গভীর সাগর থেকে কামান দাগার আওয়াজ আসতো আর তখন ব্রিটিশরা মনে করতেন কোন জলদস্যু আক্রমণের প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছে। কিন্তু প্রতিবার অনেক খোঁজাখুজি করেও জলদস্যুর কোন হদিস পাওয়া যায়নি।
✿ চিকন কালা বা নিফিউ পাড়া
চিকন কালা বা নিফিউ পাড়া বাংলাদেশ এবং মায়ানমারের নো ম্যানস ল্যান্ডে অবস্থিত একটি রহস্যময় গ্রাম। বাসিন্দাদের মতে বছরের অনিদৃষ্ট এক সময়ে বনের মধ্যে কেউ আটকে গেলে সে আর ফিরে আসে না। কিছুদিন পরে বনের ভেতরে তাদের মৃত দেহের খোঁজ পাওয়া গেলেও শরীরে আঘাতের কোনরকম চিহ্ন থাকে না।

কুয়াকাটা বাংলাদেশের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের একটি সমুদ্র সৈকত ও পর্যটনকেন্দ্র। পর্যটকদের কাছে কুয়াকাটা সাগর কন্যা হিসেবে পরিচিত।
১৮ কিলোমিটার দৈর্ঘ্যের সৈকত বিশিষ্ট কুয়াকাটা বাংলাদেশের অন্যতম নৈসর্গিক সমুদ্র সৈকত। এটি বাংলাদেশের একমাত্র সৈকত যেখান থেকে সূর্যোদয় এবং সূর্যাস্ত দুটোই দেখা যায়।
পটুয়াখালী জেলার কলাপাড়া উপজেলার মহিপুর থানার লতাচাপলী ইউনিয়নে কুয়াকাটা অবস্থিত। ঢাকা থেকে সড়কপথে এর দূরত্ব ৩৮০ কিলোমিটার, বরিশাল থেকে ১০৮ কিলোমিটার।
কুয়াকাটা নামের পেছনে রয়েছে আরকানদের এদেশে আগমনের সাথে জড়িত ইতিহাস। 'কুয়া' শব্দটি এসেছে 'কুপ' থেকে।
ধারণা করা হয় ১৮ শতকে মুঘল শাসকদের দ্বারা বার্মা থেকে বিতাড়িত হয়ে আরকানরা এই অঞ্চলে এসে বসবাস শুরু করে। তখন এখানে সুপেয় জলের অভাব পূরণ করতে তারা প্রচুর কুয়ো বা কুপ খনন করেছিলেনে, সেই থেকেই এই অঞ্চলের নাম হয়ে যায় কুয়াকাটা!
দর্শনীয় স্থান -
ফাতরার বন - সমুদ্রসৈকতের পশ্চিম দিকের সংরক্ষিত ম্যানগ্রোভ বন, যা 'দ্বিতীয় সুন্দরবন' হিসেবে পরিচিতি লাভ করেছে।
কুয়াকাটার 'কুয়া' - কুয়াকাটা সমুদ্রসৈকতের কাছে রাখাইন পল্লী কেরানীপাড়ার শুরুতেই একটা বৌদ্ধ মন্দিরের কাছে রয়েছে একটি প্রাচীন কুপ।
শ্রী-মঙ্গল বৌদ্ধ বিহার - প্রাচীন কুয়াটির সামনেই রয়েছে প্রাচীন এই বৌদ্ধ বিহার।
কেরানিপাড়া - সীমা বৌদ্ধ মন্দিরের সামনে থেকেই শুরু হয়েছে রাখাইন আদিবাসীদের পল্লী কেরানিপাড়া।
আলীপুর বন্দর - কুয়াকাটা থেকে প্রায় চার কিলোমিটার উত্তরে রয়েছে দক্ষিণাঞ্চলের অন্যতম বড় মৎস্য ব্যবসা কেন্দ্র আলীপুর।
মিশ্রিপাড়া সীমা বৌদ্ধ মন্দির - কুয়াকাটা সমুদ্র সৈকত থেকে প্রায় আট কিলোমিটার পূর্বে রাখাইন আদিবাসীদের আবাসস্থল মিশ্রিপাড়ায় রয়েছে একটি বৌদ্ধ মন্দির, যাতে রয়েছে উপমহাদেশের সবচেয়ে বড় বৌদ্ধ মূর্তি।
গঙ্গামতির জঙ্গল - কুয়াকাটা সমুদ্র সৈকতের পূর্ব দিকে গঙ্গামতির খালের পাশে গঙ্গামতির চর।
এছাড়াও এখানে রয়েছে লাল কাকড়ার চর, লেবুর বন, শুঁটকি পল্লী, তিন নদীর মোহনা ইত্যাদি।

বাংলাদেশের দক্ষিণ প্রান্তে সাগরকন্যা খ্যাত অপরূপ এক জায়গা কুয়াকাটা। পটুয়াখালী জেলার কলাপাড়া উপজেলার লতাচাপালী ইউনিয়নে অবস্থিত এ জায়গায় আছে বাংলাদেশের সর্বাপেক্ষা আকর্ষণীয় সমুদ্র সৈকত। একই সৈকত থেকে সূর্যোদয় আর সূর্যাস্ত দেখার মতো জায়গা দ্বিতীয়টি আর এদেশে নেই। অনিন্দ্য সুন্দর সমুদ্র সৈকত ছাড়াও কুয়াকাটায় আছে বেড়ানোর মতো আরও নানান আকর্ষণ।

ঢাকা থেকে নদী ও সড়ক পথে কুয়াকাটা যাওয়া যায়। সবচেয়ে সহজ যাতায়াত ব্যবস্থা হল ঢাকার সদরঘাট থেকে লঞ্চে পটুয়াখালী, সেখান থেকে বাসে কুয়াকাটা।
ঢাকার সদরঘাট থেকে পটুয়াখালী যায় এমভি পারাবত, এমভি সৈকত, এম ভি সুন্দরবন প্রভৃতি লঞ্চ। ভাড়া প্রথম শ্রেণীর একক কেবিন ৮শ’ থেকে ১ হাজার টাকা, দ্বৈত কেবিন ১ হাজার ৮শ’ থেকে সাড়ে ৩ হাজার টাকা।
কুয়াকাটা আন্তঃজেলা বাস টার্মিনাল থেকে কুয়াকাটার বাস সার্ভিস আছে। এছাড়া ঢাকার গাবতলী বাস স্টেশন থেকে সাকুরা পরিবহন, দ্রুতি পরিবহন, সুরভী পরিবহনের বাস যায় কুয়াকাটা। ভাড়া সাড়ে ৬শ’ থেকে ৭শ’ টাকা।
কোথায় থাকবেন
