Fatima is a small Portuguese town in the district of Santarém.

The town became famous in 1917 when three shepherd children have witnessed several times a Marian apparition. October 13, 1917 thousands of people have seen the sun miracle whirling on itself like a silver disc. Virgin have also issued three children the message of Fatima. These appearances justified the creation of the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima, instead of a famous Catholic pilgrimage.

La ville devient célèbre en 1917, quand trois jeunes bergers auraient été témoins à plusieurs reprises d'une apparition mariale. Le 13 octobre 1917 des milliers de personnes y auraient assisté au miracle du soleil tournoyant sur lui-même comme un disque d'argent. La Vierge aurait également délivré à trois enfants le message de Fatima. Ces apparitions ont justifié la création du sanctuaire de Notre-Dame de Fátima, lieu d'un célèbre pèlerinage catholique.
