Torre Lapillo ( Lapiddhru in the dialect of Salento ) is the only fraction of Porto Cesareo in the province of Lecce. The watchtower, also known as the Tower of St. Thomas and recently restored, is one of the largest in the area, has a square-based structure and an access stairway with three arches below, of which the last added only recent: the staircase ended in fact with a drawbridge. It has 16 meters long base sides and 17 meters high.
It is part of the coastal defensive system wanted by Carlo V to protect the Salento from the Saracen invasions . It was completed in February 1568 . It was a fraction of the town of Nardò until 1975 , when it was aggregated to the newly established Municipality of Porto Cesareo .

Places to see in ( Porto Cesareo - Italy ) Punta Prosciutto
Punta Prosciutto ( Li Prisuddi in local dialect) is a seaside resort that is part of the municipality of Porto Cesareo and extreme north-west of the province of Lecce , in Salento. The particularity of the sea lies in the fact that the shallow water is recovered after a few meters. The white sandy beaches stretch out for several kilometers and behind them there are centuries-old dunes , covered by typical Mediterranean Salentine vegetation.
The stretch of Punta Prosciutto is bordered to the north by Torre Colimena and to the south by Riva degli Angeli, circumscribed by a large group of centuries-old Mediterranean scrub. The raising of the seabed has generated a wetland that has produced a particular habitat for the establishment of a particular flora and fauna. With the regional law n. 5/2006 in the area the Parco Palude del Conte was established .
Punta Prosciutto is an absolutely beautiful beach, there is a reason they call it The Maldives of Italy! The sea is so clear and shallow, and the beach is white sand. The only thing is a lack of decent facilities.

Porto Selvaggio: The Best Places to Go in Apulia (Puglia)
Located at The Heel of the Boot , Apulia (pulia) has long been touted as the best kept secret in Italy for travelers. And while it doesn't boast so much of the stunning architecture of Florence, refined Culture of Venice or the glitz of the Eternal City, it brings to the table something else: timeless authenticity. With it's rocky coves and seaside fish grills, Apulia is unpretentious but every bit as exciting as any of the aforementioned, and stands out as one of the great Mediterranean hideaways. If only anyone outside Italy could figure that out!

Nardò is a town and comune in the southern Italian region of Apulia, in the province of Lecce. In 2014, it had a population of 20,766. Traces of human presence in the area dates from Palaeolithic times. The settlement was founded by the Messapi around the year 1000 BC. The Romans conquered it in 269 BC and built the Via Traiana through it. After the fall of the Western Empire it was under the Byzantines and the Lombards. In 1055 the Normans captured Nardò. Their heirs were ousted by the Angevines in 1266. In 1497 the Aragonese gave it to Andrea Matteo Acquaviva, whose son Belisario was the first Duke of Nardò, and promoted the Renaissance in the city. In 1647 the city rebelled against the Spanish domination, but the viceroyal troops suppressed the riot with heavy terms.
Part of Salento, Nardò is located in the north-western area of the province, by the Ionian Sea. The municipality borders with Avetrana (TA), Copertino, Galatina, Galatone, Leverano, Porto Cesareo, Salice Salentino and Veglie. The town counts 11 hamlets(frazioni): Boncore, Cenate, Pagani, Palude del Capitano, Porto Selvaggio, Roccacannuccia, Santa Caterina, Sant'Isidoro, Santa Maria al Bagno, Torre Inserraglio, Torre Uluzzo and Villaggio Resta.
