OUR BIGGEST JOURNEY SO FAR
Time to share our story! We are Doris & Matthias, an adventurous couple travelling the world and sharing our best outdoor and wildlife experiences. Wildlife Travel is our passion.
Both of us are from the countryside of Austria. We first met at high school. In fact, it took us four years to finally get to know each other on a school trip to Spain. That was more than 10 years ago. Since then, we’re a couple and travelling together.
We started backpacking on a very tight budget, taking three weeks every year to explore South East Asia and South America and we loved everything about it – the culture, the food and trying new sports. Learning how to scuba dive opened this whole new world under the ocean surface to us. So we got more and more excited to explore other places on Earth that offered amazing diving and wildlife experiences off the beaten path.
Back home in Vienna, we both work as brand and digital designers and are voluntary ambulance men. We both enjoy bouldering, lindy hop and ever since we met we’ve been experimenting with new cameras and loved capturing our travel memories.
This year, we left for our biggest journey so far – a wildlife trip around the world. Finally, time to explore truly remote places and search for our favourite animals in their natural habitat. Hearing their breath, their paws on the frozen grass and their captivating songs is something worth every struggle. And definitely something worth protecting.
We really hope to share our excitement for the wild and encourage you to get out there, to travel and head on your own adventure. We’d appreciate it a lot if you subscribe to our channel, drop us a message on Instagram @bugsandbears and become part of our wildlife travel community!

LA FIESTA DE LA SIDRA EN NAVA - ASTURIAS (ESPAÑA - SPAIN)
The council of Nava is symbolically the heart of Asturias because of its situation at the centre-east of the region and because the area is well known for its Cider production of which the Asturians are very proud.
This is the main area where the land, towns and overall life revolve around the production of the most important drink and symbol of the Principality, natural Cider. In fact because of their love for and dedication to this traditional beverage, with low alcohol content, Nava were awarded with the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award in 1996. This is an award given by the Prince of Asturias Foundation and delivered in person by the Prince and Princess of Asturias. The award shall be conferred upon a town, village, population centre, scenic area or group of people in the Principality of Asturias that have stood out in a notable way in defending and conserving its natural or environmental setting, its historical, cultural or artistic heritage, or in the carrying out of outstanding communal works or other such displays of solidarity.
Other important aspects of Nava are the fine examples of religious and civic architecture such as the Palace Casa-Fuerte de la Ferreria from the 16th century in the town of Fuensanta, The Palace of the Cogolla, also from the 16th century or the parish church of El Remedio.
In the location of Ceceda you can see the traditional architecture of the rural areas of the region.
In Nava you will also find the Museum of Asturian Cider, build to show and promote this popular beverage through an interactive experience.
There are many routes throughout the area like the Sendero Local de Nava (Local Route of Nava), Ruta del Picu la Mua (Route of La Mua Peak), Ruta de la Ribera del Rio La Pena (Route of the riverside of La Pena river) or Ruta de les foces del Rio Pendon (Route of the ravines of the Pendon river). It also offers close proximity to the beautiful beaches of the Cider Region and the Dinosaur Coastline.
The Gastronomy in Nava is based around the traditional Asturian fare, with stews, Asturian reared beef and fresh fish from the see and the rivers. It has special importance the quality shellfish from the area, cooked with rice or in many ways but always very tasty. And of course the real star of the area is Cider which is great for drinking but also for cooking with.
Nava enjoys one of the best parties in Asturias, the Festival of the Cider considered of National and International Touristic Interest and the Astur Market considered of Regional Interest.

It lasts for about 2 hours and when you get to the top, you'll find a wonderful restaurant in the village of Pedrovella called Casa Generosa. Hiking Asturias: Guanga Waterfalls
Hiking Asturias: Route of the Guanga Waterfalls (Cascadas de Guanga)
This is a very short route (3.5 km both ways) which takes around 2-3 h. It is easy to do although it is very poorly marked. A walking stick is recommended and also be prepared to go uphill for a while :)
The route starts in San Andres, a village located between Trubia and Proaza, close to Oviedo (Asturias). It can be accessed following the AS-228 road.
Once you reach San Andres, pass the first traffic light and you will see at you right a sign to Castaneu del Monte. Follow that road and park the car close to the fountain.
Then walk parallel to the river towards the bridge, but don't cross it. In the crossing turn left (the bridge would be at the right) and keep walking while you look at your left to see a ramp with a signal which reads Ruta Cascada. This is the starting point. Once you follow the path, just follow the direction of the river and deviate to the left to access the different waterfalls.
Hope you enjoyed the route with us and if you did, please don't forget to subscribe!
As always, if you have any ideas, comments, questions or suggestions, please let us know in the commentes section.
Best wishes,
