Founded by Swedish statesman and Governor General of Finland Count Per Brahe the Younger in 1649, it is one of 10 historic wooden towns remaining in Finland. Examples of other Finnish historic wooden towns are Kaskinen , Old Rauma, Porvoo , Jakobstad , and Vaasa . After a devastating fire in 1810, Raahe was rebuilt adhering to new design principles which minimized the risk of fire and enlarged some civic spaces.     Nallikari is a seaside resort located on an island in the Hietasaari district in Oulu, Finland. The resort can be reached year-round with the local bus routes 15 and 15N and during summertime with a trackless train called Potnapekka. The beach of Nallikari stretches for about half a kilometre.In addition to the beach, Nallikari resort includes a spa hotel, a camping area with rentable cottages and a seaside restaurant. A public beach was established by the city of Oulu in Nallikari in 1946. The camping area was opened in the early 1960s.     Tietomaa is a science center in Oulu, Finland. It is located in Myllytulli neighbourhood near the city centre. It is the first science centre in Finland and it was opened in June 1988.Tietomaa is located in old buildings of the Veljekset Åström Oy, a former leather processing factory. The main exhibitions are located in the former power station. Tietomaa's 45-metre observation tower with a glass elevator outside the tower is a former water tower of the factory.

    Toripolliisi is a bronze sculpture located at the market square in Oulu, Finland. It was made by sculptor Kaarlo Mikkonen in 1987, and it is his only publicly displayed sculpture. The sculpture measures 220×150×112 centimetres , and it was named in honour of the bobbies that once patrolled the market place. The sculpture was funded with the help of a public fund raising started in 1985, and it was revealed in September 1987.
