La Fortuna Costa Rica - Arenal Volcano Travel Guide | 90+ Countries With 3 Kids
Welcome to La Fortuna, a charming little town in Costa Rica!
This cute town was founded in the 1930s and it was originally called “El Burio.” However, locals decided to change the name of the city to La Fortuna, which means “fortune” in Spanish, because of the fertility of their lands and the vast variety of tourist attractions it offers.
It is located in San Carlos Canton, nearby the Arenal Volcano, which you can clearly see from the village. Its first eruption happened in 1968 when it destroyed the small town of Tabacón and spared La Fortuna at the same time. Even though this was Costa Rica’s most active volcano during the past few decades, and one of top 10 most active volcanos in the world, since 2010, Arenal has been dormant.
The Arenal Volcano National Park is definitely worth a visit, especially if you are into bird-watching. 850 different bird species can be found here, along with coatis, deer, jaguars, various snakes and white-faced capuchin monkeys.
If you are looking for accommodation in La Fortuna, Selina is our recommendation. This place is ideal for digital nomads. It is located in the center of the town, has a fantastic co-working office, fast internet and plenty of space where you can relax, like comfy hammocks, huts around the bonfire, movie room, library, and outdoor yoga studio. They also have a pool, bar and a restaurant that serves terrific food, but also a shared kitchen where you can cook for yourself.
Enjoy the video!!!

Somoto Canyon (2019) Backpacking Nigaragua
In this episode we explore Somoto Canyon. The canyon is located a short distance from the town of Somoto located in northern Nicaragua and is one of Nicaragua's main tourist attractions.
We had a fabulous day with Somoto Canon Adventura Extrema and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending them for your trip.
They day in the Somoto Canyon included hiking, floating in a rubber ring, trip in a boat and if you want a horse ride.
We visited during the dry season so the water level was low, if you want more adventure, then make sure you visit in the wet season when the river will be much higher and faster.
We hope you enjoy this episode.

This North / Central America trip visits Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras and follows the MAYA route
Natural beauty
These countries are rich in nature: beautiful tropical jungles with all kind of wildlife. Hidden in some jungles are magnificent Maya ruins. There are also amazing lakes with volcano's like Lake Atitlan, rivers like the Rio Dulce and majestic waterfalls like Agua Azul and Misol Ha. And not to forget fine beaches with an azure-blue sea and coral riffs.
Old colonial cities
There are several old colonial cities in Mexico and Guatemala, great places to dwell through the old streets and marvel at the splendid churches and other old buildings. The central plaza is mostly very lively with music and restaurants around. Especially in the evening and night you will feel enchanted by the relaxed atmosphere.
My favourite cities are Campeche, San Cristobal and Antigua.
The colourful Indian and Mayan people
Last but non least the colourful Indian and Mayan girls and women. The today's Mayas have an peculiar blend of Christian beliefs and their old traditions. Like ritual slaughter of chickens in their church, sometimes filled with strange saints and their own folk saint Maximon.
Highlights for me were San Juan and Chichicastenango with their alluring markets.
