The Beach: Roque Bluffs, Maine
The Daley Family of Calais, Maine are enjoying Roque Bluff State Park in the town of Rogue Bluff about six miles off US Route 1, is a unique day use area. With its pebble beach on the ocean and freshwater pond, it provides both fresh and saltwater swimming. Dramatic cliffs along Maine's Bold Coast provide for spectacular views and for early-risers, dramatic sunrises.
It's a wonderful secluded park that lies between Great Cove and the Little Kennebec Bay in Maine. It is a seasonal park -- meaning that it is open during the summer months. Here you can enjoy both saltwater and freshwater swimming, take a leisurely stroll along the beach and discover the minute species of maritime life that cling to the rocks along the coast. You might come upon rounded gray rocks and/or water sculptured ocean glass. In addition, there are picnic areas with tables, grills, and a children's playground. Fishing is allowed and there is a boat launch.

The Margaretta Days Festival celebrates the American Revolution Downeast, specifically the Battle of the Margaretta, the first Naval Battle of the American Revolution, the beginning of the US Merchant Marines, and the Battle of the Rim. This annual festival in Machias, Maine was named one of Yankee Magazine’s 2010 Top 20 Events which encourages everyone to enjoy travelling back in time to life in 1775. It's a lot of fun with a bit of history thrown in. History comes alive with an encampment of soldier re-enactors and period demonstrations. At the festival you might watch a skirmish between the redcoats and patriots. You might visit the trappers, timber framers, blacksmith, woodworkers, weavers, spinner. You could experience what it's like to throw a tomahawk or toss an antler. Then watch the children’s activities: cornhusk dollmaking, hoop-rolling, and more. Be sure to taste the period food: moose or venison stew, meat pies, beans, cornbread, and fruit pies to name a few. Enjoy the UMM’s Ukulele Band, Freemont Street Band, Barbara Lapham, fiddler; John Viselli, guitarist; Elna Davis on accordion. Listen to the stories of our heroes: Jeremiah O’Brien, Hannah Weston, Rev. Lyons, Passamaquoddy Chief Jean Baptiste Neptune. It will be a day the whole family will enjoy and remember for years to come.
