Castellammare di Stabia is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania region, in Italy. It is situated on the Bay of Naples about 30 kilometres southeast of Naples, on the route to Sorrento. Castellammare di Stabia lies next to the ancient Roman city of Stabiae, which was destroyed by the Vesuvio eruption in A.D. 79. The castle, of the city it takes its name from, was erected around the 9th century on a hill commanding the southern side of the Gulf of Naples. It was restored during the reign of Frederick II of Hohenstaufen and enlarged by King Charles I of Anjou.
The comune, previously called Castellamare, assumed the name Castellammare on 22 January 1863, and the current name on 31 May 1912. The excavation of Roman villas preserved by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79 is currently underway. But you can visit Villa Arianna and Villa San Marco. To visit them there is no need for a ticket.
Castellammare borders with the municipalities of Gragnano, Pimonte, Pompei, Santa Maria la Carità, Torre Annunziata and Vico Equense. It counts the hamlets (frazioni) of Fratte, Madonna della Libera, Pioppaino, Ponte Persica, Pozzano, Privati, Quisisana, Scanzano and Varano.

Castellammare di Stabia is a small town in the Gulf of Naples, shaped as a natural bowl among the hills, into an extremely fertile area, rich in mineral waters. Castellammare was built over the ruins of the ancient Stabiae: a delightful village totally destroyed in 79 AC by the violent eruption of the volcano Vesuvio, which buried even Pompeii and Herculaneum.
According to many opinions, the name derives from the medieval castle that overlooks the Gulf of Naples. The castle, which is now situated along the state highway to Sorrento, nearby the sanctuary of Madonna della Libera, was built by the Sorrentines, in order to protect their own duchy.

From Wikipedia
The Gallerie dell'Accademia is a museum gallery of pre-19th-century art in Venice, northern Italy. It is housed in the Scuola della Carità on the south bank of the Grand Canal, within the sestiere of Dorsoduro. It was originally the gallery of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, the art academy of Venice, from which it became independent in 1879, and for which the Ponte dell'Accademia and the Accademia boat landing station for the vaporetto water bus are named. The two institutions remained in the same building until 2004, when the art school moved to the Ospedale degli Incurabili
Early history[edit]
Main article: Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia
The Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia was founded on 24 September 1750; the statute dates from 1756.[1] The first director was Giovanni Battista Piazzetta; Gianbattista Tiepolo became the first president after his return from Würzburg.[2]
It was one of the first institutions to study art restoration starting in 1777 with Pietro Edwards, and formalised by 1819 as a course.
In 1807 the academy was re-founded by Napoleonic decree. The name was changed from Veneta Academia di Pittura, Scultura e Architettura to Accademia Reale di Belle Arti, royal academy of fine arts, and the academy was moved to the Palladian complex of the Scuola della Carità, where the Gallerie dell'Accademia are still housed. The collections of the Accademia were first opened to the public on 10 August 1817.[1][3]
Later history[edit]
The Gallerie dell'Accademia became independent from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia in 1879. Like other state museums in Italy, it falls under the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, the Italian ministry of culture and heritage.
The Napoleonic administration had disbanded many institutions in Venice including some churches, convents and Scuole. The Scuola della Carità, the Convento dei Canonici Lateranensi and the church of Santa Maria della Carità thus became the home of the Accademia. The Scuola della Carità was the oldest of the six Scuole Grandi and the building dates back to 1343, though the scuola was formed in 1260. The Convento dei Canonici Lateranensi was started in 1561 by Andrea Palladio, though it was never fully completed. The facade of Santa Maria della Carità was completed in 1441 by Bartolomeo Bon.
The Gallerie dell’Accademia contains masterpieces of Venetian painting up to the 18th century, generally arranged chronologically though some thematic displays are evident.
Artists represented include: Antonello da Messina, Lazzaro Bastiani, Gentile and Giovanni Bellini, Bernardo Bellotto, Pacino di Bonaguida,[4] Canaletto, Carpaccio, Giulio Carpioni, Rosalba Carriera, Cima da Conegliano, Fetti, Pietro Gaspari, Michele Giambono, Luca Giordano, Francesco Guardi, Giorgione, Johann Liss, Charles Le Brun, Pietro Longhi, Lorenzo Lotto, Mantegna, Rocco Marconi, Michele Marieschi, Piazzetta, Giambattista Pittoni, Preti, Tiepolo, Tintoretto, Titian, Veronese (Paolo Caliari), Vasari, Leonardo da Vinci (Drawing of Vitruvian Man), Alvise Vivarini, and Giuseppe Zais.

Venice, Venesia in Venice, is an Italian town of 259 970 inhabitants, the capital of the homonymous province and the region Veneto. It is the first town in the region in terms of population and surface. The City of Venice includes both mainland and island territories which is articulated around two distinct centers of Venice at the center of lagoon of the same name and the mainland. The city of Venice has been for more than a millennium, the capital of the Republic of Venice and known in this regard as the Venetian Republic, the dominant and the Queen of the Adriatic. For urban characteristics and to its artistic heritage, Venice is universally considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The Grand Canal of Venice ( Canal Grande is a common misnomer) in the Venetian Canalazzo is the nearly four kilometer long, between 30 and 70 meters wide and five meters deep main waterway in the lagoon city of Venice. The first bend of the S-shaped channel is used as a volta di canal respectively.
He is the last piece of the northern arm of the river Brenta, which runs through the lagoon, which is why the water in contrast to the other here Venetian canals is always flowing. About 45 smaller channels open into the Grand Canal of Venice.
The Grand Canal of Venice divides the city sixth San Marco, Cannaregio and Castello of the located on the right channel side neighborhoods of Dorsoduro, San Polo and Santa Croce.
Currently, four bridges span the canal, the oldest of the Rialto Bridge is. This is a late 16th Century instead of a wooden bridge covered bridge built in limestone. Until the establishment of the Scalzi Bridge and the Accademia Bridge in the 19th Century (both rebuilt in the 20th century) was the Rialto Bridge, the only fixed link across the Channel.
In the summer of 2007 was the construction of a fourth bridge designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava started. On 11 August 2007, used the central portion of the supporting structure. To this end, the Grand Canal of Venice was closed for several hours. On 11 September 2008, the bridge as Constitution Bridge inaugurated . The 94-meter-long bridge connects Piazzale Roma to the train station and thus enables commuters and bus passengers, without going out of the parking and the bus terminus of Piazzale Roma to the S. Lucia train station to arrive.
In addition to the bridges and the city's water buses allow gondolas at eight positions to translate across the Grand Canal of Venice. The gondolas operate exclusively during the day.
Loss of historic buildings, including the church of S. Lucia, had in the 19th Century are listed by the establishment of the station at the western end of the channel. In memory of the demolished church, the station was Stazione Ferroviaria S. Lucia called.
The Grand Canal of Venice is a punishable by a fine armored ban on swimming, which is strictly enforced.
The Grand Canal of Venice is lined with more than 200 magnificent palaces of the nobility. In Venice, the height of the palaces of many provisions in was city-state set and each accepted das. Again there was compared to other Italian cities, a strong common spirit, the superimposed individual interests. The counter-example are the towers in other cities, with which the individual families sought to outdo each other.
The distance of the palaces to the Grand Canal of Venice was in the early and high Middle Ages partly larger. Only in the 13th Century, they began to expand the buildings which were built on many small islands towards the channel and to relocate the yard to the rear. At the same time the main facade was moved towards the water, which had previously on the land side. Contrary to widespread opinion, the palaces of the most famous families were not on the Grand Canal of Venice, but at larger and smaller spaces or on side channels.
Direct the Grand Canal of Venice facing, separated only by small squares or cobbled shore area of him are also some churches: the Santa Maria di Nazareth (Scalzi), San Simeone Piccolo, San Geremia, San Marcuola, San Stae, San Samuele and Santa Maria della Salute. As part of the Accademia, the largest museum of Venetian art, is also the nave of the former church of Santa Maria della Carita to see. For the construction of the station at the northwest end of the Grand Canal of Venice in the 19th Century been canceled the church of Santa Lucia.

Places to see in ( Venice - Italy ) Ponte dell'Accademia
The Ponte dell'Accademia is one of only four bridges to span the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. It crosses near the southern end of the canal, and is named for the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, which from 1807 to 2004 was housed in the Scuola della Carità together with the Gallerie dell'Accademia, which is still there. The bridge links the sestieri of Dorsoduro and San Marco.
A bridge on the site was first suggested as early as 1488. The provveditore Luca Trum proposed in the Council to build two bridges across the Grand Canal, one here and the other at Santa Sofia. The members of the Council, however, laughed at him, and the motion was not even put to the vote. The original steel structure, designed by Alfred Neville, opened on 20th November, 1854, but was demolished and replaced by a wooden bridge designed by Eugenio Miozzi and opened in 1933, despite widespread hopes for a stone bridge.
The second bridge, in a dangerous condition, was razed and replaced by the present bridge, of identical construction, in 1985. As of 2011, a replacement bridge is under discussion. Lovers attach padlocks (love locks) to the metal hand rails of the bridge, but the Venice authorities have attempted to crack down on this.

Ancona, via e Loggia dei Mercanti - Merchants' Lodge (manortiz) 1080
Loggia Dei Mercanti
Merchants’ Lodge
The Lodge attracts the eye with its beautiful marble sculptures in Venetian Gothic style. Two marble inscriptions in the middle of the facade state: ” Sumptibus erectum / comunitatis Anconae,” (erected by the undertaking of the community of Ancona). Erected by the township of Ancona to host all activities linked to commerce and navigation, during a prosperous period for the economy of the city, the lodge is in fact located near the harbour, an essential location for trade and for the whole economy of Ancona.
The building of the Lodge began in 1443, thanks to the architect Giovanni Pace, also called “il Sodo”.
The splendid facade in Via della Loggia is the work of Giorgio Orsini from Sibenik, who built it between 1454 and 1459 in the Venetian Gothic style, using precious Dalmatian marble from the quarries of Brac. On the ground floor there are three pointed arches, each
corresponding to a mullioned window with twisted columns on the upper floor. Beside the windows there are columns with niches containing statues representing Hope, Fortitude, Justice and Charity, all the virtues of the good Christian merchant. The relief of a sword-wielding knight, emblem of the city, is at the very centre of the facade. In 1558 Pellegrino Pellegrini from Bologna, also called Tibaldi, restored the Lodge: the building had been damaged by a fire in 1556. The ceiling of the first floor and the roof burned down, and most of the building was destroyed. During this renovation, the mullioned windows were closed, the interior was frescoed with a symbolic iconography (lost in the war) and the side overlooking the harbour was renovated with a terrace that is still visible today. From there, the merchants could watch the ships in the harbour come and go.
Restored at the end of the 18th century with contributions by Giuseppe Pallavicini and Gioacchino Varlè, it carried the decorations made by Tibaldi until 1943, when the bombings destroyed most of the building.
After the devastation suffered during World War II, the Lodge was reopened to the public on the 21 November 1952.
Today it is the public seat of the Chamber of Commerce of Ancona.
