Panama Insider: The serene mountain village of Sora
International Living's Panama Editor, Jessica Ramesch, takes a weekend trip to a mountain chalet in the village of Sora. Just an hour and a half drive from Panama City, Sora is an easy-to-reach weekend destination, with a small community of expats living there full time. Even during Carnival, when many of Panama's popular towns host big festivals, Sora is tranquil and green, despite the summer heat and low precipitation. If you're looking to get away from it all, Sora makes a great choice.
Why Retire To Panama?
Panama, known as the hub of the Americas, has become known as one of the top retirement destinations in the world. Its affordable cost of living and high standard of living appeal to baby boomer retirees from Europe and the United States looking for a new home. Many from the United States especially prefer Panama for its proximity and ease of access. Those who retire to Panama find that a quite simple two-and-a-half-hour flight will land them back in Miami in the United States. Retirees who wish to explore the Caribbean and Latin American areas will also find that they can easily do so from Panama. This is how Panama got the “hub of the Americas” nickname.

Overall, baby boomer retirees who are looking for a slower pace of life in a warm, tropical country that is still easily accessible to the United States will enjoy living in Panama. The close proximity of friends and family and being able to easily go back home to visit them (or have them come to visit) is one of the greatest appeals for retirees who decide to settle in Panama.
Hidden Gems: Panama
It splits the Americans and connects two of the world's great oceans. Where else can you surf the pacific and sail in the Caribbean on the same day? Imagine a place with mountains, jungles, metropolitan cities and a few monumental pieces of engineering. If you think Panama is just a canal, you'd better think again. This is a country that consistently defies expectations and we're going to show you why with the Hidden Gems of Panama.

In this video, Jessica Ramesch, IL's Panama editor, shows footage of one of her favorite weekend spots—Contadora Island.
Part of the Pearl archipelago off the Pacific coast of Panama, this island is accessible via a 15-minute flight from Panama City.
Though the waters are a baby blue that evokes the Caribbean, these are actually Pacific waters. The sands are bright white and there are 11 beaches on Contadora alone, with many other islands to explore nearby.
Take a day trip to a beach that hosted Survivor, go fishing or just order piña coladas and work on your tan all day long. Contadora is a place for enjoying peace, tranquility, and nature's beauty at its best.

LOS CAJONES DE CHAME | PANAMA [4K]

Hello World! Welcome to another travel vlog! On my recent trip to Panama I made a quick stop at Los Cajones de Chame. This is a really nice, secluded area on the Río Chame (Chame River). The short nature walk in provides a picturesque view of the mountains in the area. It's a great place to go spend a few hours and jump into the river (even though on this day I didn't jump in).
***For safety reasons, I wouldn't recommend going during rainy season! Please be careful and keep this in mind!***
GETTING THERE:
Los Cajones de Chame is about one hour and 30 minutes from Panama city. It it located in Bejuco, Panama. Driving from Panama City on the Panamerican Highway, you will enter the Bejuco - Sorá Road at the Texaco Station in Bejuco (right hand side coming from Panama City). From there you will drive approximately 10 miles in and make a right onto a dirt/rocky road where there is a bus stop that is painted light blue and has Los Cajones spray painted on it. You will need an SUV/Off-Road to get all the way down, otherwise you'll have to leave your car park at the top of the hill, like I did. :P
GPS Coordinates for Los Cajones: 8°38'56.7N 79°58'43.3W

The Retirement Loophole
Discover the Retirement Loophole nobody's talking about right here
Think you can't retire? Think again.
Half a million Americans have already taken advantage of a little–touted retirement loophole that's allowed them to effectively double, and even triple their disposable income.
Almost anybody can make use of this special formula—including you… starting today…
Eighty-seven percent of Americans admit they haven't saved enough to retire comfortably.
Economists predict that among baby boomers, most middle-class workers—not just low-income workers—will be living at or near the poverty level in their old age.
But you don't need an economist to tell you that your golden years may not look quite as sparkling as you always envisioned.
You may think, Well, there's not much to be done about it.
But that's simply not true.
You don't have to stand idly by, wringing your hands and hoping for the best.
You don't have to work longer or scale back your plans.
Because you could take advantage of a little-known retirement loophole to sidestep this recession entirely and live very comfortably in retirement, starting now. No matter how much savings—or how little—you have.
The Social Security Administration reports more than half a million Americans have already made use of this formula. And today they're retired comfortably, even luxuriously.
It Might be the Perfect Plan
If you're concerned about how you'll fund an enjoyable life in the years to come, you should know…
Fortune magazine has called this, a way to double your retirement dollar.
The AARP reports, it can make good financial sense.
Kiplinger's Personal Finance has said it might be the perfect plan.
Now with loopholes, it's that top 1% we hear about who's always pocketing crazy, pie-in-the-sky sums.
Did you know, for instance, that 4,000 millionaires avoided paying any federal income tax at all in 2011? None at all. Get the feeling they know something you don't?
So this little trick I'll tell you about today I like to think of as a retirement loophole for the rest of us…
It's like getting a rich man's break on a regular Joe budget.
And why shouldn't you?
You don't need any special qualifications to make this work for you. It's perfectly legal. And you can make use of it effectively whether you've saved for retirement… or not.
Plus it's something you can access starting now. It works if you're on the cusp of retirement… and just as well as a longer-term planning tool, even if retirement is still a decade or two off.
Of course, retirement loopholes like this aren't often advertised. And so this is not something your average financial planner is likely to bring up. Not much in it for him.
But this is a completely legitimate way to arrange your affairs so you can stop worrying about what the years ahead will look like… and start enjoying your life, instead…
