Stryi is a city located on the left bank of the Stryi River in Lviv Oblast of western Ukraine . Serving as the administrative center of Stryi Raion , it is designated as a city of oblast significance and does not belong to the raion. Its population is approximately 59,325 . Stryi is considered to be the first city in Ukraine to bear the blue-over-yellow Ukrainian national flag when it was hoisted on the flagpole of the Town Hall on March 14, 1990 before the fall of the Soviet regime.

The total area protected by national parks is approximately 1,111,600 hectares , for an average of 22,685 hectares but a median of only 14,836 hectares at Zalissya. The largest national park is Upper Pobozhia in Khmelnytskyi Oblast: at over 100,000 hectares . The smallest park is Derman-Ostroh National Nature Park, at less than 5,500 hectares . This category of the Nature-Preservation Fund was mainly established after the fall of the Soviet Union. There were very few parks in Ukraine and most of them were in the West.
