Antwerp,Antwerpen,Anvers:
Antwerp is a city in Belgium, the capital of Antwerp province in the region of Flanders. With a population of 510,610, it is the most populous city proper in Belgium. Its metropolitan area houses around 1,200,000 people, which is second behind Brussels.
Antwerp is on the River Scheldt, linked to the North Sea by the Westerschelde estuary. The Port of Antwerp is one of the biggest in the world, ranking second in Europe and within the top 20 globally.
Antwerp has long been an important city in the Low Countries, both economically and culturally, especially before the Spanish Fury (1576) in the Dutch Revolt. The inhabitants of Antwerp are nicknamed Sinjoren, after the Spanish honorific señor or French seigneur, lord, referring to the Spanish noblemen who ruled the city in the 17th century. The city also hosted the 1920 Summer Olympics.
Antwerp had an artistic reputation in the 17th century, based on its school of painting, which included Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, the two Teniers and many others.
Informally, most Antverpians (in Dutch Antwerpenaren, people from Antwerp) daily speak Antverpian (in Dutch Antwerps), a dialect that Dutch-speakers know as distinctive from other Brabantic dialects through its typical vowel pronunciations: approximating the vowel sound in 'bore' – for one of its long 'a'-sounds while other short 'a's are very sharp like the vowel sound in 'hat'. The Echt Antwaarps Teater (Authentic Antverpian Theatre) brings the dialect on stage.
ntwerp is the focus of lines to the north to Essen and the Netherlands, east to Turnhout, south to Mechelen, Brussels and Charleroi, and southwest to Ghent and Ostend. It is served by international trains to Amsterdam and Paris, and national trains to Ghent, Bruges, Ostend, Brussels, Charleroi, Hasselt, Liège, Leuven and Turnhout.
Antwerp Central station is an architectural monument in itself, and is mentioned in W G Sebald's haunting novel Austerlitz. Prior to the completion in 2007 of a tunnel that runs northwards under the city centre to emerge at the old Antwerp Dam station, Central was a terminus. Trains from Brussels to the Netherlands had to either reverse at Central or call only at Berchem station, 2 kilometres (1 mile) to the south, and then describe a semicircle to the east, round the Singel. Now, they call at the new lower level of the station before continuing in the same direction.
Antwerp is also home to Antwerpen-Noord, the largest classification yard for freight in Belgium and second largest in Europe. The majority of freight trains in Belgium depart from or arrive here. It has two classification humps and over a hundred tracks.Wikipedia

Flemish Beguinages - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Come with me as I visit a pair of UNESCO World Heritage Flemish beguinages, small communities of religious women that have existed in Flanders since the Middle Ages. They are quite different to nunneries and convents, because the women didn't take vows or collect alms, and were free to leave if they chose. There are quite a few beguinages covered by the World Heritage listing, so here we chose the most notable: Groot Bejinhof (Great Beguinage) in Leuwen, and the beguinage in Brussels.

After Summer Brussels 2012 (10.9.12 - Day 831)
Visiting a customer in Brussels, Belgium, after which I strolled down the city center, checking out a number of sights amongst which are the Grote Markt and Munt Schouwburg. Also I visit the Belgian alternative to Burger King: the Quick. They are doing things a tad different from what we're used to from American style fastfood chains but it's quite alright - you should try them yourself if you ever find yourself in Belgium or France for that matter..

Flea Market in Brussels, Belgium
Flea Market in Brussels, Belgium
Flea Markets in Brussels, Belgium for lovers of art and antiques. — If there is any place where you can meet the real soul of Brussels, this is the flea market Jeu de Balle. Dozens of small stalls are set on the famous square Marolles district, just steps from the Sablon district, known for its antique shops. It is ideal for history lovers destination, architecture and art. Flea market, antiques, collections, !!! in a very typical and friendly atmosphere in Brussels, 365 days a year!
Tourists, neighborhood residents and lovers of bargains pile to find a single piece. A daily (since 1919) antiques market selling second-hand products, which is held in a concrete plaza, in the Marolles District, and where you might find everything from refrigerators and wheelchairs to vintage used clothing, antique bottles, records, old books, paintings, dolls, televisions, cut glass, old phones, wrought iron beds, and many more. And if you walk up adjacent Rue Blaes, you will eventually end up in a scruffy, shop-lined street where a number of antiques dealers showcase the very best of their finds. Many of the stalls are set style top manta, on the floor, or just in cardboard boxes where revolver in search of the lost object. Of course, this market is a sight to see, it's like a museum of antiquities Grandma. There are things of curious and if you find something you like, the price is most economical. This is one of the loveliest views that you do in the city, you will really appreciate the Belgian capital. Every day from 6am to 2pm on weekdays and from 6am to 3pm on weekends. It’s a great place to find things you never knew you really wanted, and at knockdown prices. Once the dealers have gone, take one of the side roads from Rue Blaes into Rue Haute. Here they have a great selection of antique, brocante and craft shops. It’s a little more chic, but still good value.
