Travel London, United Kingdom - British Pubs
Experience what it's like in a typical British Pub.
There are pubs around every corner in London, most of them with illustrious history. We are going to the Blue Posts Pub located in Central London. The image of a traditional British pub has not changed much over the years: the wooden interior, the fireplace and a warm, cozy, homely atmosphere.
If you are a literature buff, you will think you have been to the Dickensian or a Shakespearean world. The pub is actually an abbreviation of the term public house. The word was coined during Victorian times, but the concept has been around since the Romans and their taverns.
I am Gabby and I work as a barmaid here. First I would say the atmosphere because most of the British pubs, they are very old, so the interior is quite old. So, that is what the difference is between the more modern bars and the British pub.
Pubs were meeting places for professionals and artists alike. We do not do food, and the drink, that would be the bitters, the real ales. I am Peter Halpin, showing you London.
Discover Devon with The Camping and Caravanning Club
Heavenly cream teas, gorgeous sandy beaches and endless family attractions - it’s easy to see why Devon is a camping holiday favourite. There’s so much to see and do in this corner of England, and our 6 Club Sites provide easy access to everything this captivating county has to offer.
Let’s start with the beach. As the name suggests, Slapton Sands is a beautiful coastal site within a 10-minute stroll of the beach. Another coastal favourite is Dartmouth, with the Blue Flag beach at Blackpool Sands within easy walking distance, while the town of Dartmouth itself is less than 3 miles away. Here, you can explore the pretty waterside town and take the ferry across to Kingswear to ride the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway.
For a coastal camping break with a difference, Lynton is just the ticket. This peaceful site occupies a lofty hilltop position above the Exmoor coast, and is perfect for holidaying families; local attractions include Exmoor National Park, Watersmeet, Glen Lyn Gorge, and Coombe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park.
Away from the coast, enjoy a countryside retreat in California Cross, Tavistock or Umberleigh. California Cross is based in the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, while lovely Tavistock is based within Dartmoor National Park, which is top draw for walkers and cyclists - particularly as National Cycle Route 27 passes nearby. Finally, Umberleigh is surrounded by the rolling hills of the Taw Valley, and offers a peaceful break in North Devon’s celebrated countryside.
