Côa Archaeological Park and Museum
Designed by the architect duo of Pedro Tiago Pimentel and Camilo Rebelo, the Côa Museum first opened its doors to the public in 2010. A bold structure overlooking the magnificent landscape of the upper Douro valley, it doubles as a base and interpretive centre for the Vale do Côa Archaeological Park. The classification of the prehistoric rock-art sites of the Côa valley as UNESCO World Heritage was the culmination of a process that would leave a lasting mark in this region, making it a unique destination that adds the natural power of attraction of the Douro vineyards to this singular prehistoric heritage. The museum complements visits to the rock-art sites with additional information, recreational programmes and other cultural activities.
