Winterthur, to the northwest of Zürich, is the sixth largest city in Switzerland in terms of population. Situated near the German border, Winterthur is a centre of hi-tech industry. My three minute film shows a clean and modern city on a bright, fine day, and one which is not dominated by traffic, partly because of good public transport, and partly because many of the streets in Winterthur are for pedestrians only, although there are plenty of bikes in evidence.
This is a city where contrasting periods of architecture exist comfortably side by side: after the transport hubs in my movie come the modern shopping streets, then the much older Neumarkt square and the twin-towered church, followed by the outside of some of the many museums in the town. Don’t miss the grand Town Hall and the pleasant open green space of the city park.
