Exploring Xian, China : Beyond the TerraCotta Warriors
Come with me as I explore the things to do in Xian. Xian is the capital of Shaanxi province. Home of the famed Terracotta Warriors! But there's so much more things to do in Xian. I didn't realise that here you can also hike Mount HuaShan, the most dangerous hike in the world! It's one of the craziest things I've done but so worth it. There's also the Yellow River, Hukou Waterfalls, the Ancient Walled City of Xian, Muslim Quarter, and so much more. Xian is definitely the place to go in China for ancient history and adventure.

20+ Incredible Eats in Xi'an, China
I've been waiting almost 3 years to go to Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province in China.
Why? Because the food there is supposed to be some of the best in the world.
Because of the variety of people, geography, and climate - China's food varies considerably from province to province. Xian is home to many Hui people - a Muslim ethnic minority. The city is considered to be China's start-line of the silk road. Many Arabs settled in the area after coming to trade their wares. They brought with them their food, including many types of bread that weren't previously popular in China. They also bred many sheep for meat, since they don't eat pork (the most popular meat in China). This cuisine adapted over the years, adjusting to Chinese cooking methods, ingredients, and the tastes of the Han people.
Huimen Street, also known as the Xi'an Muslim Quarters is a huge tourist attraction, and it's mostly packed with food. Chinese people love to eat regional specialties and there is plenty of that in Xi'an. But of course, we veered off the beaten path, heading deep into the Muslim quarters where the Hui people actually go to eat. We stuffed ourselves for 3 days, which wasn't nearly enough time to try everything. It was an amazing experience, and Xi'an has become one of my favorite places in China.

Sweet pickled garlic - 糖蒜
Sour soup lamb dumplings AKA suantang dumplings - 酸汤饺子

While I love Xi'an's cuisine, my heart belongs to Sichuan. I live in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, and I've written a guide to Sichuan food. Check it out if you are going to the area.

3 Things To Do In Xi’an, China
The Terracotta Warriors, also known as the Terracotta Army is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century. Built to accompany the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty to the afterlife, these incredible terracotta statures play in important role in Chinese history and are a testament to ancient China.

The easiest way to visit the Terracotta Warriors / Terracotta Army is to jump on Tourist Bus N5 located near Xi’an Railway Station. The bus journey to the Terracotta Warriors / Terracotta Army takes approximately 1hr. It’s best to get there as early as possible. This is after all, China’s most popular tourist destination. The site itself has three main viewing sites to see the Terracotta Warriors / Terracotta Army and other treasures that have been uncovered during the excavation.
Xi’an City Wall is an incredible sight to behold. The 15km man made wall surrounds the capital of ancient china. When visiting the wall we recommend starting at the South Gate. It’s the most grand of the four major city gates on the wall. You can also hire bicycles or hop in a golf cart to easily get around the wall.
One of the best things we did in Xi’an was not planned. We stumbled across the Yongxing Square Food Street where we smashed plates and made mash potato with a sledge hammer.
