About Yorba Linda:
Yorba Linda (Beautiful Yorba, in English) is a suburban city in Orange County, California, approximately 37 miles (60 km) southeast of Downtown Los Angeles. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 64,234. The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is located in Yorba Linda.
Early years[edit]
In 1834, Jose Antonio Yorba's most successful son, Bernardo Yorba (after whom the city would later be named), was granted the 13,328-acre (53.94 km2) Rancho Cañón de Santa Ana by Mexican governor José Figueroa. Most of this original land was retained after the Mexican–American war in 1848 by descendants of the Yorba family. A portion of the city's land is still owned and developed by descendants of Samuel Kraemer, who acquired it through his marriage to Angelina Yorba, the great-granddaughter of Bernardo Yorba. The site of the Bernardo Yorba Hacienda, referred to as the Don Bernardo Yorba Ranch House Site, is listed as a California Historical Landmark.[7]
Near that same site sits the second oldest private cemetery in the county, the historic Yorba Cemetery.[8] The land was given to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles by Bernardo Yorba[8] in 1858[9] since Orange County was not established out of Los Angeles County as a separate county until 1889.[10] The cemetery closed in 1939 and was subsequently vandalized; however, in the 1960s, the Orange County Board of Supervisors took possession of the property to repair the damage, and tours are now available one day per month.[8]
Agricultural era[edit]
Yorba Linda School, built 1913. Photo circa 1918.
A section of the land was sold in 1907 to the Janss Investment Company, which first called the area Yorba Linda,[11] and proceeded to subdivide the land and sell it for agriculture and manufacturing. In 1910, the agricultural aspect of that endeavor materialized, and the first of many lemon and orange groves were planted: at the time, the population was still less than 50.[9] A year later, The Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company began serving Yorba Linda, and the first school was constructed.[9]
In 1912, several things happened in Yorba Linda: it received its first post office; the Yorba Linda Citrus Association was founded; the Southern California Edison Company began providing electricity; and the first church was constructed.[9] The area that would later become downtown was also connected to Los Angeles by the Pacific Electric Railway in 1912, primarily for citrus transport.[11]
The Birthplace of Richard Nixon
In 1913, Richard Nixon was born in Yorba Linda, the chamber of commerce was set up, a library opened as part of the school, and avocado trees were first planted.[9] A year later, a separate district was established for the library system.[9]
In 1915, the Susanna Bixby Bryant Ranch house was constructed.[9] It is now a museum and can be toured by the public.[12]
In 1917, the Yorba Linda Star began publication.[13] It has since become an online section of the OC Register.[14] However, a printed version of just the Star still exists and is available at various city buildings free of charge and is delivered to every household in Yorba Linda each Thursday. Moreover, its past articles are available for viewing on microfilm at the Yorba Linda Public Library.[13] In that same year, the first street was paved, Yorba Linda Boulevard.[9]
The population exceeded 300 for the first time prior to 1920.[9] In 1929, the citrus association's packing house burned down, as it was made of wood.[9] It reopened the next year.[9] During this period, the eastern two-thirds of Yorba Linda (east of the Yorba Linda Country Club) remained part of cattle and agricultural ranches controlled by pioneer families such as the Yorba, de los Reyes, Kraemer, Travis, Dominguez, Friend, and Bryant ranches.

Exotic Mountaintop Estate. California's San Diego County, USA - Unravel Travel TV
Exotic, mountaintop estate in California's San Diego County will be sold at a live Auction on September 19, 2015 by Platinum Luxury Auctions. Recently offered for $12.5 million, the property will be sold to the highest bidder who meets or exceeds the auction's $5 million reserve price. Listing agent K. Ann Brizolis of Pacific Sotheby's International Realty is the cooperating listing agent for the sale
The mountaintop estate is one of the most unique and intriguing homes in all of San Diego County. Perched atop Paint Mountain on more than 18 acres, the Property offers striking, 360-degree views of Southern California, with vistas stretching all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Sunsets are especially spectacular when viewed from one of the estate’s many terraces, or while soaking in the one-of-a-kind lap pool. The mansion’s unique design was custom-created by its original owner, a wealthy inventor, investor, and physician. Materials and craftsmen were imported from all over the world to produce the sprawling residential structure. In fact, the development of the estate became quite a local attraction, with random visitors constantly driving onto the project site just to capture a peak of the work in progress.
An immense, 288,000-gallon lap pool is perhaps the residence’s most striking feature, as it runs through the property’s central courtyard and out towards its back lawn, where it seems to disappear over the edge of the mountain. It is purported to be one of the longest residential pools in the world. Massive walls of glass, unique water features, and a striking central courtyard with a pool and spa allows for a seamless integration between the estate’s indoor and outdoor living spaces. Many features of the home seem well beyond their time, such as 10-ft by 10ft doors that gently swing open on special, hidden hinges, and oversized, electronically controlled sliding glass doors that open the main level’s hallways to the central courtyard.
The tri-level estate offers more than 23,000 interior sq. ft., with 8 bedrooms, 9 full and 2 half baths. The master suite alone measures 4,300 sq. ft., and opens to a large, rooftop terrace. There is also a separate guesthouse, which adds 2 beds, 2 full baths and approximately 1,200 sq. ft. of living space, an ideal location for on-site staff. (Note: The guesthouse is presently unfinished). Additional features of the mansion include two living rooms, a game/media parlor, formal dining room with glass walls and a revolving floor (designed to allow all dinner guests to enjoy the panoramic views during their meal), a dedicated theatre, fitness center, executive office, and sauna. The commercial-grade kitchen includes a Teppanyaki station, Viking and Wolf appliances, and a separate prep room. There is also a wine cellar and a garage capable of accommodating more than 20 cars.
In addition to it’s incredible pool, the estate’s water features include two, 900-gallon salt-water aquariums, gentle stone “wall waterfalls,” and various koi pools. There is even a custom rock waterslide that slopes down the edge of the mountain, terminating in a small plunge pool. Other outdoor features include a gated entry, circular driveway with porte-cochere, and a private jogging path that encircles the estate.
Elfin Forest is an unincorporated community in the foothills of San Diego County’s Santa Rosa Mountains. It is bordered on the south by Rancho Santa Fe (the Property is in fact located within the Rancho Santa Fe school district). A rural area comprised of large homes and estates on multi-acre parcels, Elfin Forest offers many rolling hills and trails. The area is also home to the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve, a 784-acre reserve with 11 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, in addition to many beautiful spots for picnics, or simply taking in the mountain views.
