Russian city Chelyabinsk - 1501km east of Moscow

Flying nearly three hours east from Moscow by plane, I landed in Chelyabinsk.
From a modern Moscow international airport to a country airport is quite an eye-opener. We waited patiently near the luggage conveyor belt fro 30 minutes. It made these tired repetitious noises and was almost 70 years old. Over this old contraptions was a brand new huge LED TV, pushing out loud advertisements. What a contrast. Next to the conveyor belt, was a booth with a black telephone, which probably was operational during the WW2. Extraordinary interesting, I felt.
During our day-excursion many other typical Russians things, like Kvass. It is made from bread and tastes-in my opinion- like boiled old socks. Even after drinking half a litre, I could not get used to it. May be when it is a very hot day, I would enjoy it.
Later, in the early evening, we made started our journey to Zlatoust, a two hour bus journey through the middle of Russia. Contemplating in my seat, having my future-wife next to me, I remembered these horrible days in court of custody battle and property settlements,- but now I had a new promising future, together with a great adventure. Country Market in the middle of Russia

We started the day by collecting pure water from the nearby well (or spring). The water in the pipes is undrinkable, I was told. So twice a week my future-wife and many other people walk for kilometres to the well. Here they wait patiently, in the rain or in the freezing cold. Difficult life, I thought. At lunchtime, we walked to the market in Zlatoust. I took my camera, may be there was something interesting to film. Once I saw these poor conditions, I thought Westerners should see this. It felt for me that I was thrown into a post-nuclear wartime, where all is made up out of leftovers. Stands of fruits, clothes, and meats adjoining each other and life goes on like normal. Was I really in a country where they have nuclear weapons, cosmonauts and high standing scientific research? Hmm..Russia is certainly a land of big contrasts. Национальный парк «Валдайский» находится в северной части Валдайской возвышенности на территориях Окуловского, Валдайского и Демянского районов Новгородской области. На территории Валдайского парка насчитывается около 200 озёр, большое сосредоточение памятников истории и культуры Новгородской области. Здесь издавна селились древние славянские племена.

Валдайский Иверский Богородицкий Святоозерский монастырь — православный мужской монастырь на Сельвицком острове Валдайского озера в 10 км от города Валдай. Один из трёх монастырей, построенных по инициативе патриарха Никона. Основан в 1653 году.

Valdaysky is a national park in the north of Russia, in Novgorod Oblast. It was established May 17, 1990. Since 2004, the National Park has the status of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The park comprises historically significant area, including the town of Valday, Valday Iversky Monastery, and a number of the 19th century estates. The area attracted artists and authors since the 19th century, and is currently one of the most popular tourist destinations in Central Russia. There are many recreational facilities, mostly located at and around Lake Valdayskoye and Lake Seliger.

Valday Iversky Monastery is a Russian Orthodox monastery founded by Patriarch Nikon in 1653 on an island in Lake Valdayskoye in Valdaysky District of Novgorod Oblast, Russia, close to the town of Valday. In the 17th century, the Valday Iversky Monastery was one of the most influential monasteries in Russia and a significant cultural center.
The monastery derives its name from the Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos.
