Brew Bus Tour features Southern Oregon microbrews
By Molly Trotter/KTVL.COMASHLAND, Ore. -- Oregon's beer industry brings in more than 2.4 billion dollars in revenue every year.Southern Oregon is adding to that by capitalizing on the boom making breweries tourist attractions.Main Street Tours in Ashland is one of those companies by running a brew bus tour through the Rogue Valley to feather Southern Oregon brews. The magic brew bus tours is our creation of a safe fun and inspiring way to learn about microbrews here in Southern Oregon, said Kim Lewis, the Owner of Main Street Tours.Oregon is the third largest craft beer market in the United States and Lewis says the tour helps local breweries promote their craft beer while providing a safe way for people to enjoy themselves. We take people, we play some fun music along the way and we get them to where they have some samplings as well as great food to go with it, Lewis said. The brew tour takes groups of people of three to four different breweries around the Rogue Valley. One of the popular stops is Caldera Brewing in Ashland. They can check them all out they can have a good time and enjoy the food, enjoy the beer and you know it's a great way to go, said Ray Cato, the Brand Manager for Caldera Brewing.Another popular stop on the tour is Bricktowne Brewing Company in Medford. The manager there says the stop gives them a chance to get to know their guests. We get to show people some other different styles that they are not used to and some people roll through that might not otherwise have and it has definitely impacted a people to where they keep coming back, said Neil Smith, the Bar Manager for Bricktowne Brewing Company.Smith says with more people coming in, that means a higher demand on the breweries. The smiles on the faces that come into our brewery enjoying our beer makes the high demand all worth it. That's what it's all about, Smith said. For more information on setting up your own Brew Bus Tour, visit

Craft beer brewing booming in Southern Oregon
MEDFORD, Ore -- Breweries and taphouses are popping up across southern Oregon. The Oregon Brewers Guild has the numbers to prove it. The non-profit organization says a few years ago, Oregon had 100 breweries. Now, there are 166.We're adding ten to 20 breweries a year, said Brian Butenschoen who is the executive director of the guild. The organization was started in 1992 to protect and promote Oregon's breweries. According to the guild, the Portland-Metro area has 66 breweries and taphouses. In and around Eugene there are about 10. Central Oregon has 18 and in southern Oregon, there are 15 breweries and taphouses, with six more in planning. Butenschoen says, I think it's almost like brewing sleeper cells. We had a pretty lively homebrew community in this area... and now, we're seeing a lot of people stepping out on their own to create their own beer. It's been almost a beer renaissance in the last two years, said Chris Dennett, owner of Beerworks in downtown Medford. The brewers guild wants Oregon cities to start paying attention to the untapped link between craft beer and tourism.Butenschoen says in 2009, the city of Bend started its Ale Trail, a tour for beer fans. Research shows 40% of the people traveling to Bend go there to visit a brewery, or do the Ale Trail. Two years ago, that number was 26%.Oregon was the first state in the country to hold a beer week and the first to have an entire month. July is Oregon Craft Beer Month.

Bend Oregon - A Great Place to Grow Up
I grew up in Central Oregon. It was fantastic! Outdoors, snow, mountain bikes, rivers, lakes, and so and and so on. The people that live there are in their own little world. That can be good and bad. Either way, as a kid it was nothing shy of fantastic.

Traverse City Brew Bus
Check out the IndieGoGo campaign:
My name is Troy Daily, local business owner and entrepreneur. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 with a BA in Hospitality Business. After living in California and Virginia for four years I moved back to Traverse City in early 2011. Upon moving back I started Daily Medias, a local marketing company. I then started local food and drink focused businesses including TC Cycle Pub, TC Ale Trail, and the TC Dining Guide, all of which filled unique niches in the area that had not yet been filled.
I have grown extremely passionate about the flourishing craft brew scene in the area, especially beer. The Cycle Pub had a great first season. The Ale Trail has had great traction since launching in July with over 1,200 brew lovers completing the trek. Both have been great influences on the industry. Thats when the Brew Bus idea was born...
The Brew Bus is an exciting way to educate, celebrate, and experience the craft brew community in a unique, fun and safe way.
The Brew Bus will offer some entertaining all-inclusive tours including; brewhouse tours, brewer and owner questionnaires, samplings at each location, and even some Cicerone-led tours. These experiences will not only be educational and interesting, but they will offer added benefits that may surpass if you were to visit the brewery on your own. The Brew Bus will also be available for rent and other tours will be announced early 2014.
If all goes well the Brew Bus is expected to be offering tours just after the New Year. With your help we can get, 'Ale Aboard the Brew Bus!'
Local beer boom helps make Oregon #1
MEDFORD, Ore. -- Oregon is the hoppy road between the California and Washington borders, making it the front man of the nation's beer industry.
It's a huge industry for Oregon and contributes somehwere around 150,000 jobs to the state. So, it's a huge sector of what's going on, Beerworks owner Chris Dennett said.
Beer connoisseurs say a contributing factor to Oregon's bubbling beer business is local production.
One of the really amazing things about Oregon is that 47 percent of all the beer that we drink on draft is produced in the state of Oregon, Opposition Brewing owner Nick Ellis said.
Bend has about 26 microbreweries, while 15 call Southern Oregon home. Despite being beat in the numbers, local beer shops start smaller and utilize the valley's resources.
We've all started on the more grassroots level, nano-brewing operations where we're on a 3-barrel or smaller system, we're growing organically and we're working with the community, he said.
Opposition Brewing currently has a 1.5-barrel system and is in the process of expanding to a 7-barrel system, to reach more beer drinkers in Southern Oregon and across the state.
Once we get on that 7-barrel system, that will allow us to start doing things like bottling and distributing, so we can get on some store shelves, get our kegs out into the valley, sort of that large and bigger presence here in the Rogue Valley, he said.
And Oregon is not just the number one beer state, it holds the title of being the largest beer producer in the world.
Out of 2012 to 2013, the state of Oregon as a state is actually the largest producing per capita beer area in the world. So, we can produce more per capita in the state of Oregon than Belgium does, he said.
