Big Island of Hawaii Category ATV - Tom Barefoot
Visit for more information. Big Island of Hawaii ATV Off-Road Tours - The Big Island has more land area then all the other Hawaiian islands put together and as such has vast amounts of space which can be visited by ATVs. Its not surprising then that the Big Island was the site of the very first ATV rides in the state. Vast ranchland areas, beautiful coastal routes and inland forest treks are all available for the ATV enthusiast. Some of the advanced rides allow participants to travel 15 to 20 miles into the rugged and colorful Big Island rainforests to see just how dirty they can get. Tours to a remote private pebbled beach, tours to exquisite waterfalls and wide-open ranchland tours are all available to those wishing to experience the thrills of an ATV adventure.
Flumin' Kohala Tour - Big Island
One of my favorite experiences in the Big Island (Hawaii). It is located up north of the island and has the best tour guides who actually grew up in the area. You can tell how much they love their community and how they maintain the area. It is awe-inspiring.
The town built flumes that they use to transport water to another town that needs it. They hired japanese workers to build the tunnels, you can see some writing on the walls.
There were about 9 tunnels, some are long and some are short. There are some parts that have water but it is not so bad. The water is not so deep, it is about 3 feet. It was raining when we went, so bring a raincoat, it helps you from getting too cold.
All in all, WE LOVE THIS TOUR!!!
One Minute in Paradise: Kona Waterfall
The wet windward side of Hawaii Island is known for some amazing waterfalls but I captured this cool waterfall at a blowhole in Kona near the Old Airport State Park. On big surf days these can produce enormous blasts of water into the sky. This one was fairly mellow but mesmerizing to watch all the same.

A 1.5hr timed off road race at the Hilo Hawaii MX track and surrounding jungles. Many Thanks to all who came out and helped or participated. This is shot aboard my original 86 air cooled KDX200. Minor kickstart issues made me quit until the bike cooled off, then I finished the last 10 minutes of the race.

Big Island, Hawaii: The North Coast
The North Coast of Hawaii (Hamakua Coast) is one of the most beautiful areas of Hawaii. At Laupahoehoe a short scenic drive leads to the point of the same name, where strong surf crashes up over the rocks, with high cliffs at the background. Honoka'a is a small town with some historical buildings that once was an important sugar industry center. From it there is a side road leading to the Waipi'o valley, one of the main attractions in the Big Island. It is posisible go down the valley by hiking or with a 4WD.
Waimea(Kamuela) is other of the main town in this area, surrounded by green pastures. From Waimea the Kohala Mountain road, leads to the town of Hawi through a mountain and pasture landscape.
