Ditto Landing Master Plan Update
View highlights of the long term vision for Ditto Landing and Huntsville's riverfront.
Ditto Landing Marina
Ditto Landing marina is located off Hobbs Island Road just east of the 231 Bridge crossing the Tennessee River. The marina offers a safe haven for boats needing an overnight refuge from the rolling barge wakes in the big river as well as a great spot for skiers, wakeboarders and anglers to launch without trailering to either Guntersville or Decatur. Our dredged harbor is home to dozens of yachts up to 54 feet, as well as a building-full of smaller boats in dry storage.
HISTORY
Pioneer James Ditto came around the Great Bend of the Tennessee River in the early 1800’s. He landed amongst friendly Chickasaw Indians in the area known as the Chickasaw Old Fields. Today that area is known as Ditto Landing, and the point of Chickasaw Island is now called Hobbs Island.
Within a few years Pioneer Ditto built a trading post. A ferry boat carried travelers across the river by 1807. Amongst the customers, reportedly, were Andrew Jackson and Davy Crockett on their way to the Creek Indian War.
In 1824 the area became known as Whitesburg, which is a familiar name to area residents. It was named for salt trader James White. Ditto Landing became one of the first inland ports of entry for the United States and a prosperous trade hub and heartbeat of economic activity for the Huntsville area into the 1840’s.
Current Day
Ditto Landing is Huntsville, Alabama’s gateway to the Tennessee River at MM334, mid-point of the waterway. With wet slips, dry storage, boat launch, campground, pavilions, walking and biking trails, a ship’s store, gas, diesel, and abundant transient dockage, Ditto is a North Alabama hidden gem.

Fund our trip to Seattle -
My family and I moved to Huntsville, AL in 2001 from Germany. The people in Huntsville made us feel welcomed and we were privileged to call Huntsville our new home.
Now, after 13 years, my wife and I decided to go on an adventure and move to Seattle, WA and so I have made this video as a little Thank You to Huntsville, its people and the time that I got to spend in this city.

Teen Says Government Shutdown Has Changed Her Family’s Lifestyle
The partial government shutdown has gone on for 30 days now. It has forced some people to work without pay, others haven't been able to go to work at all.
While we've heard a lot about the impact the shutdown is having on government employees, a North Alabama teen reminded us the impact trickles down.

Demolition of the center of the Clay Bridge in Ala. Sep 2006
The camera rolls as the explosives are detonated to drop the steel center section of the 1931 Clement Comer Clay bridge over the great Tennessee River on US 231. The sound follows later because of the distance between the microphone and the bridge.
The bridge, often mistakenly referred to as Whitesburg Bridge, opened in 1931. Officials named the bridge for Clement Comer Clay, who was an Alabama governor from 1835 to 1837 and a U.S. senator from 1837 to 1841.
