It was a cloudy day when we were driving to the Florida Keys, and we stopped at Key Largo and
Especially we went to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.
This park offers visitors a unique experience. it is the coral reefs and their associated marine life that bring most visitors to the park, we filmed many birds and the amazing and calm beach. Canoeing and Kayaking through the park's waters are popular activities; Visitors can enjoy walking on short trails, picnicking, or swimming at the beach. The Visitor Center has a 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium and we took videos of the aquarium fishes and some of them with beautiful colors.

Immerse Yourself in Florida Keys Aquarium Encounters
Marathon offers multi-generational visitors to the middle Keys an immersive experience with reef fish, invertebrates, stingrays and even sharks without having to go out in the ocean.
As a hands-on, interactive learning center, the unique attraction strives to inspire visitors about the importance of marine conservation and provide both education and discovery about the fragile and complex underwater habitats in the Florida Keys.
The signature feature is a coral reef exhibit and shark habitat housed in a massive 200,000-gallon interconnected saltwater aquarium for viewing. In-tank participants can immerse themselves to hover over a mock coral reef structure and interact with tropical reef fish, a variety of rays and other coral-dwelling marine species that are part of the in-tank ecosystem.
Other interactive aquarium encounters include shallow touch tanks that feature starfish, conch and horseshoe crabs as well as to allow feeding de-barbed stingrays and docile baby nurse sharks.
Best things to do in the Florida Keys
The top 4 best things to do when visiting the Florida Keys, visit the Ernest Hemingway House and his famous six toed cats, explore the colourful towns and boardwalks, visit the turtle hospital and one other excellent experience but you will have to watch the video to find out what.

Pigeon Key Historical Tour Henry Flagler RR Marathon Florida Keys (1 of 9 top things to do in Keys)
1 OF 9 TOP THINGS TO DO IN THE FLORIDA KEYS
The Pigeon Key historical tour out of Marathon is one of my favorite things to do in the Florida keys. Every time I have personal guests in town visiting, I either take them there personally or suggest they go there while they're here during their stay. I probably go on this tour at least 3 times a year and it never gets old or boring for me. There is so much rich history to learn about in the Keys, especially the story about the Henry Flagler Railroad which later became the Overseas Highway and is the most southernmost part of US1.
Although ravaged by Hurricane Irma in Sept. of 2017, the island is still beautiful as ever! It is currently still undergoing repairs almost 2 years later (April 2019). Watch to the end of the video to see some Pigeon Key before and after hurricane Irma photos.
This tour starts with a fun 20 minute boat ride out to the island which is only accessible by boat.
After arrival, you will meet up with a volunteer tour guide who will take you on about a 45 minute tour of the island. They usually start with information on the construction of the 7 mile bridge which actually passes through Pigeon Key (the old RR bridge) and about the man camp on the island that housed all the workers. Then he/she guides you around the island and talks about the past functions of the different old buildings and what they are used for today. They will also go into detail with a great back story of Henry Flagler and the overseas RR (including info on how he came into the money to fund the massive project). You end up at the museum where you will see interesting artifacts and pictures from the time of the construction (among many other interesting artifacts and informative details). Afterwards, you will usually have about 30-60 minutes before the next return ferry, to enjoy the island on your own and take pictures. You are also welcome to stay the day on the island to snorkel, picnic or whatever until the last ferry heads back (in this case, I would suggest makjng sure you are on the first ferry out).
The tour guides, like Eric, are volunteers because they are passionate about Florida Keys history (particularly about Pigeon Key and the Henry Flagler Railroad). They are very friendly and helpful and REALLY appreciate your tips!
The captain and first mate on the ferry are friendly and a lot of fun. Their pay is nominal so they also very much appreciate tips! You can tip them at the end of the tour as they are helping you get off of the ferry.
Be sure to call ahead to make sure they have availability. (305) 296-1552
Buy your ferry ticket at the Pigeon Key Visitor Center located at 2010 Overseas Highway
tours run daily at 10AM, 12PM, and 2PM and usually last an hour.
JUST A SMIDGEN ABOUT THE MAN BEHIND PIGEON…
In 1912 Henry Flagler arrived aboard the first train into Key West, marking the completion of the Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway's Over-Sea Railroad to Key West. With the completion of the Over-Sea Railroad the entire east coast of Florida, from Jacksonville to Key West, was linked by a single railroad system. The FEC was the product of Flagler's own personal resources and imagination. Flagler's construction of hotels at points along the railroad and his development of the agricultural industry through the Model Land Company established tourism and agriculture as Florida's major industries, which remain so even now more than a century later. In essence, Henry Flagler invented modern Florida. Although the Overseas Railroad into Key West may not have turned out to be the commercial success Mr. Flagler may have envisioned, it certainly paved the way!

Glass Bottom Boat Ride at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park - Key Largo, Florida
Our first stop in the Florida Keys is at the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park on Key Largo, Florida. There are tons of activities to choose from here - everything from kayaking, to snorkeling and a variety of reef tours. This state parks was the first in the United States to protect an underwater area of over 70 nautical miles. We begin in the visitor center, then hop on the boat for a ride out to the Atlantic Ocean where we view the reefs from the boat.
The Florida Keys and the Highway that goes to the Sea
The Overseas Highway, sometimes called the Highway that Goes to Sea, is a modern wonder. It is the magic carpet by which visitors from Florida's mainland can cross countless coral and limestone islets through that special world of the Florida Keys.
The highway — the southernmost leg of U.S. 1 — follows a trail originally blazed in 1912 when Henry Flagler extended his Florida East Coast Railroad from Miami to Key West.
The highway was begun in the late 1930s & The Florida Keys — which now host more than three million visitors annually — became an easily accessible tourist destination by car and bus.
And what do these visitors see?
Key Largo
Key Largo, called the first of the Florida Keys, because of its northernmost location along the Florida Keys chain, is an hour's drive from South Florida's two major airports. Yet it is a world away.
Home to two state parks, a national park, a national marine sanctuary, Key Largo boasts some of the most fascinating botanical scenery in the state.
Also visit the 'African Queen, the boat made famous in the Humphrey Bogart film of the same name.
Islamorada
Our Village of Islands is situated between the saltwater wilderness of Everglades National Park in one direction and North America's only coral barrier reef and the deep blue waters of the Florida Straits in the other.
This might be the only place on Earth where it is possible to catch a sailfish in the morning, and then venture into the backcountry in pursuit of bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and redfish in just inches of water.
With a fleet of highly-skilled recreational fishing captains, Islamorada's reputation as The Sport Fishing Capital of the World is well earned.
Marathon
This quaint tropical city is conveniently situated in the middle of the Keys island chain.
Located mainly on Vaca, Fat Deer, and Grassy Key, Marathon is a 10- mile-long family-oriented island community rooted in a heritage of fishing, and reflects the old-Keys lifestyle that residents, snowbirds and visitors enjoy so much.
It is maintaining this simple, seafaring tradition that has made Marathon so special, celebrated through the community's annual family-friendly seafood festivals.
Big Pine Key and the Lower Keys
If you've had enough of an overcrowded and weary world, the islands of the Lower Keys are the place for you.
Here, you can snorkel or dive over the Looe Key coral reef, ride a bicycle through Key Deer country, or take a fishing adventure in the back country or troll the deep blue waters beyond the reef.
At the end of the day, you can trade stories with family and friends at one of this area's tiki bars, RV parks, campgrounds, quaint resorts or licensed vacation homes. The Earthy fragrance of mangrove forests and wetlands is never far away.
Key West
Discover a city where real estate titles date back to the Kings of Spain.
Stroll the palm-lined streets and discover gingerbread mansions, tin-roofed conch houses, the John Audubon House and Ernest Hemingway's home.
Walk in the footsteps of Thomas Edison, Lou Gehrig, Harry Truman, and Tennessee Williams.
Gaze at the fabled treasure of the galleon Atocha. Discover tomorrow's fine art treasures by Key West's well-known and unknown artists

This series is more about us getting used to RV life and the process of documenting it all, and is not meant to be proper episodes, more like preseason--or pilot--episodes. However, we do try to make them a little informative and hopefully somewhat entertaining. We officially go live with real episodes based on travel in April of 2020.
