Snorkeling Key Largo's Grecian Rocks
Key Largo, Montego, baby there's no such place as Kokomo.
Thanks to Keys Diver for providing the boat ride and excellent staff. If anyone is interested in taking the tour, which was supposed to go to the Christ of the Abyss, the trip is indeed weather dependent! It was just a little rainy, and the current was bad at the statue, so we didn't go there. I didn't mind, I'm just posting the info in case anyone is curious.

Key Largo Snorkeling in Turquoise Blue Water at Grecian Rocks Reef : Ep. 23
Wow! Grecian Rocks Reef is a beautiful reef 5 miles off the coast of KeyLargo, Florida. We thoroughly enjoyed our snorkeling tour with @Sundiver Snorkel Tours. It was fantastic. Best snorkeling trip ever! This is within a Sanctuary Preservation Area (SPA). This tour is a fun, safe, family-friendly snorkeling tour that is well worth your time and money. Captain Mike was great and the 30 minute boat ride to the reef was smooth and comfortable. PSA - if you get seasick like me, here is my secret remedy. 1. Take a tablet of dramamine the night before. 2. Take a second tablet of dramamine the morning of. 3. Drink lots of Gatorade to keep yourself hydrated and full of electrolytes. I had no sea sickness at all.
We went in late October and the weather was fantastic. 88 degrees with 80% humidity with a water temp of 81 degrees.
Such a great experience. Highly Recommend. The most healthy reef I have encountered to date.

SHARK SIGHTING, KEY LARGO REEF, GRECIAN ROCKS, March 2018
A quick ‘Highlights’ vid of a recent dive at Grecian Rocks reef, about five miles south of Key Largo (GPS:25 07.840N/80 18.312W; Depth 5 - 25 feet), part of the protected John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Includes a peaceful encounter with a 7-foot Reef Shark (at minute 0:45) but watch the whole thing; it’s only a minute and you’ll see some beautiful reef!
Some of the fish (in order of appearance):
*Parrotfish - Rainbow, Midnight
*Tangs
*Stoplight Parrotfish
*Smooth Trunkfish
*Spiny Lobster
*Gray Angelfish
*Great Barracuda (at cleaning station)
*Shark (I was told it was likely a Bull but I think it looks more like a Blacktip by the tail)
March 18, 2018
“Just swam with this 6 - 8 foot shark. As I came upon the first coral heads at the edge of the reef I saw the shark move - so it had seen me first - and judged that it was about ten meters away. By the time I’d turned the GoPro on and pointed it in the right direction, the shark had effortlessly put another ten meters between us with a few flicks of its tail. I tried to follow but with the strong current I made little headway and didn’t want to disturb the fish by struggling. Visibility was about 30 meters and that is why the vid is kind of blurry. But it was an epic day snorkeling and I was so grateful to have seen the shark as it nonchalantly swam off into deeper water. It was a thrill to experience this among other incredible moments today at Grecian Rocks reef, six miles offshore Key Largo. Shot on my GoPro Hero5.”

Beautiful coral reefs, plants, fish of many color and sizes. And, If you get lucky, you will see a big reef shark that leave in that area. We saw it one time , its huge! Many barracudas, angel fish, lobsters, etc.

Grecian Rocks at Key Largo June 2018
This is a small excerpt of reef footage - my first day with a GoPro and fighting wind and current. Better to be on the reefs in the morning before the wind comes up. The reefs are still showing 2017 hurricane damage, not to mention the wear and tear of close proximity to Miami and human traffic.
The Christ Statue - Key Largo Dry Rocks
Along with Molasses Reef, the Christ statue is one of the most visited dive spots in Key Largo. This 9-foot tall bronze statue of Christ rests in 25 feet of water, and was created by Italian sculptor Guido Galletti. It was donated to John Pennekamp Park in 1965. Christ of the Deep is a copy of the Christ of the Abyss statue, which resides in the Mediterranean Sea near Genoa, Italy. This reef is excellent for both scuba diving and snorkeling, and part of the reef comes out of the water at low tide.
