Hawaii Big Island Volcano boat adventure
While staying on the big island in Hawaii we took a boat ride out to where the molten lava from the island's active volcano pours into the ocean. We certainly didn't expect to get quite as close as we did to the entry point; it was a totally amazing experience. Look closely and you can spot the red hot lava just above the water level in amongst all the steam.

Volcano Lava Boat Tour in Hawaii
Hawaii Lava viewing by boat is the best way to experience red hot lava sizzle into the sea. On May 20th, 2010 these lucky Big Island visitors were treated to multiple lava flows spread across the newly created lava bench which is currently 7 acres in size. Lava Boat LavaKai affords you and your group a front row seat to view active lava on this Hawaii Adventure Tour.
Lava Flow Ocean Entry (Big Island, Hawaii)
One morning we decided to make the long walk out to where the lava flow had been entering into the ocean. It was so much more amazing than I could have imagined. Nothing fancy here, just a few short clips joined together. Recorded on January 13, 2017.

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, established in 1916, is a United States National Park located in the U.S. State of Hawaiʻi on the island of Hawaiʻi. It encompasses two active volcanoes: Kīlauea, one of the world's most active volcanoes, and Mauna Loa, the world's most massive subaerial volcano. The park gives scientists insight into the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and ongoing studies into the processes of vulcanism. For visitors, the park offers dramatic volcanic landscapes as well as glimpses of rare flora and fauna.
In recognition of its outstanding natural values, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park was designated as an International Biosphere Reserve in 1980 and a World Heritage Site in 1987.[3] In 2000 the name recommended to be changed by the Hawaiian National Park Language Correction Act of 2000 observing the Hawaiian spelling, but that bill died.[4][5] In 2012 the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park was honored on the 14th quarter of the America the Beautiful Quarters series.
The park includes 323,431 acres (505.36 sq mi; 1,308.88 km2) of land.[6] Over half of the park is designated the Hawaii Volcanoes Wilderness area and provides unusual hiking and camping opportunities. The park encompasses diverse environments that range from sea level to the summit of the Earth's most massive active volcano, Mauna Loa at 13,677 feet (4,169 m). Climates range from lush tropical rain forests, to the arid and barren Kaʻū Desert,More Info

A treat to watch volcanic eruptions from so close....
You don't get to see these LIVE in your life
A Hawaiian eruption is a type of volcanic eruptionwhere lava flows from the vent in a relatively gentle, low level eruption; it is so named because it is characteristic of Hawaiian volcanoes. Typically they are effusive eruptions, with basaltic magmas of low viscosity, low content of gases, and high temperature at the vent. Very small amounts of volcanic ash are produced. This type of eruption occurs most often at hotspot volcanoes such as Kīlauea on Hawaii's big island and in Iceland, though it can occur near subduction zones (e.g. Medicine Lake Volcano in California, United States) and rift zones. Another example of Hawaiian eruptions occurred on the island of Surtsey in Iceland from 1964 to 1967, when molten lava flowed from the crater to the sea.
Hawaiian eruptions may occur along fissure vents, such as during the eruption of Mauna Loa in 1950, or at a central vent, such as during the 1959 eruption in Kīlauea Iki Crater, which created a lava fountain 580 meters (1,900 ft) high and formed a 38-meter cone named Puʻu Puaʻi. In fissure-type eruptions, lava spurts from a fissure on the volcano's rift zone and feeds lava streams that flow downslope. In central-vent eruptions, a fountain of lava can spurt to a height of 300 meters or more (heights of 1600 meters were reported for the 1986 eruption of Mount Mihara on Izu Ōshima, Japan).

Hilo Hawaii - Things To Do In Hilo Once Your Ship Docks At The Hilo Cruise Terminal
This is a simple video of the actual dock where Cruise Ships stop when in Hilo Hawaii. This can be a big help in planning your day if you are considering what to do once you get there like just walk around town or visit museums or instead take a more elaborate excursion.
The Hilo Hawaii Cruise Terminal is a short 2 1/2 mile drive from downtown Hilo. I made this short Hilo Cruise Port video to give you an idea of what to expect once you dock.
First of all you can see that it is an actual dock and you are not tendered into town on smaller boats like you are in ports like Kona and Lahaina on Maui.
The port didn't have any shops, restaurants or anything to offer those that would like to just hop off the ship for a couple of hours but you can take a free shuttle to the local Hilo Hatties store and Walmart-- But you probably didn't travel all this way to go to Walmart.
For a lesser priced excursion you could choose a Hilo city tour that includes the impressive Rainbow Waterfall, or you could be a bit more adventurous and travel to the top of Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain in the world. For more on Mauna Kea you might want to check out my video of the Big Island where we almost get snowed in at the top of the mountain and had to cut our excursion short.

HAWAII TODAY - Kilauea volcano eruption (July 1, 2019)
Hawaii today News (July 1, 2019). Kilauea volcano eruption. Then and now! 2018 LERZ eruption in Hawaii. That time when the lava river above Green Mountain looked like a veritable sea of lava. My friend is throwing his house keys into the lava river, after losing his home to the biggest eruption on Kilauea Volcano in over 200 years. This eruption is now over, but for many, recovery will take a lifetime.

Kilauea volcano now spewing Lava Balls latest USGS warning
AS HAWAII’S Kilauea volcano continues its unstoppable path of molten destruction, scientists have identified a new phenomenon plaguing residents on Big Island - huge lava balls. But what are they exactly? The USGS (United States Geological Survey) tweeted a time lapse video on Saturday showing lava balls chugging towards the Pacific Ocean from fissure 8.
Also known as lava boats and lava bergs, these balls of lava sit above the main flow. The USGS explained: “Rafts of accrete lava move down stream and look like boats moving down a river.

Tour Boats Have Returned To Hawaii Volcano Zone After Lava Bomb
According to Reuters, tour boats have returned to provide a close-up look at lava pouring from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano into the Pacific Ocean. The tour boats operate off the Big Island. There are new safety rules in place a day after 23 passengers were injured by ash and molten rock during one tour. The accident has prompted the U.S. Coast Guard to require boat captains to stay at least 300 yards from lava flowing from fissures in the volcano. Previously, experienced operators only had to stay only 164 feet away.

Lava Tree Park On Big Island, Hawaii-UHD 4K
This unusual volcanic feature is the result of a lava flow that swept through this forested area and left behind lava molds of the tree trunks. Lava Tree State Monument is a park on the island of Hawaii. It takes about 30 min to complete the walk around the park. There is no charge for parking and entry and there are restrooms.
The Big Island is the largest and the southeastern-most of the Hawaiian islands, a chain of volcanic islands in the North Pacific Ocean. With an area of 4,028 square miles (10,430 km2), it is larger than all of the other islands in the archipelago combined and is the largest island in the United States.
