Hidden Lake / Logan's Pass Hike, Glacier National Park GoPro 4k
When they call Montana the Big Sky State, they aren't kidding! The first time out here and everywhere I went it was breathtaking! Endless fields of wild flowers and gigantic ice capped mountain peaks everywhere you look. The Going-to-the-Sun road is kind of scary yet its ridiculous how no words can explain the epic scenic views you come to pass just driving along it.
This was the first hike I ended up doing out in Montana - Hidden Lake/Logan's Pass which was a great start to my adventure. As you can tell there's a ton of wildlife right on the trail as well as epic views no matter which way you turn. What I thought was interesting was that at the start of the trail it went from a chilly 50 degrees to a high 80s then back down to 60s at the lake side - it's worth mentioning you can see all four seasons at the same time which is just amazing!

Plenty of animals and stunning views on this perfect summer day. Shot in 4k. To fully appreciate this video please watch on a 50 or larger TV/monitor and select 4k or the highest resolution your connection can support.

Hiking to Hidden Lake - Logan Pass, Glacier National Park, Montana
One of the most popular hikes in Glacier National Park is the Hidden Lake Trail that begins on the west side of the Logan Pass Visitor Center.
It's about 2.7 miles to the edge of Hidden Lake (5.4 miles round trip), but most visitors only cover half that distance, turning around after taking in the outstanding views at the Hidden Lake Overlook. The views all along the trail are great, and feature Clements Mountain and other peaks, the Garden Wall, wildlife and Hidden Lake itself.
It's a bit of a climb to the overlook, about a 500-foot gain. Then the trail drops almost 800 feet on the way to the lake - of course, you'll have to hike back up on your return. So it is a moderately difficult trail, especially for folks not used to hiking at higher elevations.
Wildflowers are common in the summer. As are mountain goats. I came across some bighorn sheep on one hike here. And as I confirmed the last time I made this hike, snow is possible at any time during the year.
The Photos (in order)
C14A1325 - Early in the hike the Garden Wall ridge is a featured view; the red rock in the foreground was once an ancient mudflat, evidence of the amount of geological uplift that has occurred in the region
C14A1377 - The trail passes a small alpine pond
C14A1345 - As the trail approaches the viewpoint, Hidden Lake comes into view
C14A1364 - Hikers aren't the only ones who enjoy the view of Hidden Lake; a mother mountain goat and her kid are taking in the view, too; the mountain goats here have gotten a little too used to hikers here, so they are a common site along the trail; I came across a handful of bighorn sheep along the trail the first time I hiked it (wildlife can be unpredictable and aggressive, especially if they sense a potential threat to their young)
Most visitors return to the parking area after enjoying the views from the overlook. You can double the length of your hike if you continue on down to the shore of Hidden Lake.
Because of ice on the trail, I skipped that portion of the trail the last time I was here, so the following pictures are from two earlier visits to the park.
M03A0060 - The different colors of the rock caught my eye along this stretch of the hike
W94A1283 - Another view of Hidden Lake
W94A1293 - Some mountain goats greeted me when I reached the shore of Hidden Lake
M03A0070 - A view of Hidden Lake from its shore; the water is quite clear - and quite cold

Our Itinerary:
Day 1 - #pitamakanpass and #dawsonpass
This hike was absolutely incredible, a great way to kick off our trip! We broke our record for longest day hike ever, and had a BLAST doing it!
Day 2 - Upper #twomedicinelake & #twinfalls
Another great hike, this one takes you by an incredible double waterfall and ends at the BEAUTIFUL Upper Two Medicine Lake!
Day 3 - #avalanchelake & #trailofthecedars
Probably the busiest of all of these hikes, but with good reason. Avalanche Lake is SO SO pristine and calm!
Day 4 - #bowmanlake & #numaridge lookout
This is the furthest West we'll go, and the most remote hike of all 9! Numa Ridge is epic, but it is a GRIND to get to!
Day 5 - West #lakemcdonald
No trip to Glacier is complete without a stop at Lake McDonald. A great way to see this lake is by hiking the West side and finishing with an ice cream cone in Apgar Village!
Day 6 - #hiddenlake and #goingtothesunroad
If the Going to the Sun Road is open, you drive it! And when you do, stop at Logan Pass for the Hidden Lake hike! You won't regret it.
Day 7 - #crackerlake
We made it to Many Glacier! 3 of our 4 favorite hikes, starting with Cracker Lake and the most blue milky water we have seen up to this point! And we saw a mountain goat and moose at the top!
Day 8 - #iceberglake
There are literally icebergs in this lake. Everywhere! And this is in Grizzly territory, so be prepared.
Day 9 - #grinnelllake & #grinnellglacier
Our favorite hike of our entire time in Glacier! Grinnell is SO SO SO COOL!
