What's up with Huntsville Ghost Walks?
Hey guys! Katie here again with another vlog for iHeartHsv.com. Today, I thought I’d go on the Ghost Walk downtown to get into the spooky spirit (ha, get it?!).
The Walk
I bought my ticket for the Ghost Walk at Harrison Brothers Hardware on the square and was met with a tough decision: do I take the Old Town, the Downtown, or the Twickenham tour? All three tours are about 2 hours long, but they each have their own ghost stories. I chose the Twickenham tour this time, whose path takes us past antebellum homes, the Pope Mansion, and the Helion Lodge #1. Our tour guide, Bob, gave us the safety spiel and we were off! Although the evening unexpectedly turned dark and stormy, Bob spun spooky tales and revealed ghostly encounters at each of the stops. I’ve lived in Huntsville most of my life, but I hadn’t heard most of the stories Bob told us!
The Experience
The tours run from 6 p.m. to about 8 p.m. every Saturday from June through October and all meet at Harrison Brothers Hardware. Additional tours are offered on Fridays and at 8:30 p.m. in October. A trolley tour is also offered, which visits Maple Hill Cemetery and Huntsville Hospital, along with other locations just a bit too far to walk. Photos are encouraged on all the tours, and who knows, you may capture an image of a ghost!

Twickenham Overture in D Major Dennis Collins Foster
A musical and visual tribute to the city of Huntsville -- Twickenham Overture. The city of Huntsville was incorporated in 1811. The first white settler in the area was John Hunt in 1805, for whom the city was named. After treaties with the Chickasaw and Cherokee Indians were signed, LeRoy Pope purchased land in the area and laid out a community known as Twickenham, named after Twickenham in England, where his relative, Alexander Pope resided. The community was well planned and streets were laid out with the respect the community water supply known as Big Spring. Huntsville was the State's first capital, with a Constitutional Convention convening in Huntsville in 1819 and the State being accepted into the union in the same year. Some of the old State buildings remain today as Constitution Park. Maple Hill Cemetery was established by the city in 1818 and many prominent people were buried there, including Alabama governors, and Revolutionary War and Civil War soldiers. Each Fall, Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll provides people with a historical treat, where actors tell the story of the lives of many who are buried there and others who are part of Huntsville's heritage. Huntsville was occupied by Union troops during the Civil War and one of the more famous Civil War figures, General John Hunt Morgan, was born there. The Indiana 59th Infantry Regiment also occupied Huntsville, of which my great-great- grandfather was a member. Many Union troops are buried at Maple Hill. Today, Huntsville is known as Rocket City and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center was the primary contributor to the development of the Saturn Rocket which carried Americans to the moon in 1969. Those German scientists who came to Huntsville with Dr. Wernher Von Braun had a great influence on the culture and history of the city and the centerpiece of this music, Twickenham Overture, includes a German march, Weber March, in honor of that family. This music is part of a series of musical compositions, Twickenham Orchestral Suite, celebrating Alabama's Bicentennial Year.
1/9/15 Dove Release at Mount Olivet Cemetary, Chattanooga, TN
At my Uncle Bob's funeral at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chattanooga Tennessee, as part of the Southern custom, 4 doves were released at the grave site. Each of the four dove symbolize a different attribute, but I was standing too far back in the crowd to hear and remember what the director had said. Letting Doves fly over the cemetery was really cool way to wrap up a sad day.
Remembering Dr. Sonnie Hereford, III
The funeral service for Dr. Sonnie Hereford III was held Tuesday., July 12, 2016. The retired physician and civil rights pioneer helped integrate Huntsville City Schools. Hereford died on Thursday, July 7. “It is true that he has left footprints, not only here in the Tennessee Valley, but across the nation. We are here today standing on his shoulders. His shoulders of courage, his shoulders of perseverance, says Alabama A&M University President Andrew Hugine.
“He can’t march anymore, says Sonnie Hereford IV with tears in his eyes. He said that toward the end of his life. We have to do it and shame on us if we don’t.
“We may lay him to rest but his departure does not end the battle. It’s a call to a new generation to carry the mantle for all people, so I say to Dr. Hereford, well done my neighbor, says Rev. Dr. Wayne P. Snodgrass.
The service ended about 12:45 p.m. at Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral procession will soon go by the new Sonnie Hereford Elementary School, located at 2755 Wilson Street. Vehicles will then proceed Maple Hill Cemetery for burial.
Dr. Hereford was a graduate of W. H. Councill High school, Alabama A&M University, and Meharry Medical College.
Dr. Hereford, 85, holds a special place in Huntsville's history. In 1963, his son Sonnie Hereford IV became the first of four black students to attend a white public school in Alabama. “He returned over the next several days only to find the school locked and guarded by state trippers, dispatched by Governor George Wallace. Seeking help, Hereford contacted the federal judge that is, says Huntsville City Councilman Will Culver.
I'm hoping that one day in my city that we're not going to see any racial distinction or any class distinctions, Hereford told a crowd in 2015.
He was a retired physician in the Huntsville community, but he is most known for the iconic image of him and his son walking away from Huntsville's Fifth Avenue School in 1963. The photographer behind the picture, though, remains a mystery.
Sonnie Hereford Elementary is Huntsville's newest elementary school. The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for July 21st at 10 a.m. It officially opens this fall.
He didn't just champion desegregation for schools. “At one point even handing out leaflets at the Midwestern and Eastern Stock exchanges urging businesses not to invest in Huntsville, alabama until the city ended segregation, says Jack Ellis, who co-wrote Beside the Troubled Waters with Dr. Hereford.
That push led to Huntsville desegregating hospitals and other public places two years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964. While the service marks the end of Dr. Hereford's journey, his life's work isn't over.
Hereford is survived by his loving wife, Martha Adams Hereford; his son, Sonnie Wellington Hereford IV; five daughters, Kimela Hereford Mullins, Lee Valerie Harris, Linda Hereford Creighton, Brenda Faye Merriweather, and Martha Jacqueline Howard; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Companies usually have two distinct approaches to Financial services type of business. One approach would be a bank which simply buys an insurance company or an investment bank, keeps the original brands of the acquired firm, and adds the acquisition to its holding company simply to diversify its earnings. Outside the U.S. (e.g., in Japan), non-financial services companies are permitted within the holding company. In this scenario, each company still looks independent, and has its own customers, etc. In the other style, a bank would simply create its own brokerage division or insurance division and attempt to sell those products to its own existing customers, with incentives for combining all things with one company. Installment credit is used for a specific purpose, for a defined amount and for a specific period. Payments are usually the same amount each month. Examples of purchases made on installment credit include large appliances, automobiles and furniture. These kinds of loans usually offer lower interest rates than revolving credit. For example, a car company holds a lien on the car until the car loan is repaid. The total amount of the principal and interest is repaid within a predefined period. If the customer defaults on the loan payments, the company can repossess the car and charge penalties. Better Qualified has developed a proven credit management program that will help you manage your credit and save money. A 13-year old girl from Attucks Middle School ended up on life support at Texas Children's Hospital two days after a fight off campus.

Jackson says when her daughter returned home Thursday afternoon, she had a bruise on her face, but insisted she was okay.
Trump Takes Aim at Rocket Man!
The Donald gave a rally speech in Huntsville, Alabama on Friday, September 22, 2017 and took aim at Kim Jong Un, aka Little Rocket Man. 45 waxed philosophical about who is responsible for the current state of affairs with the Hermit Kingdom, but by no means was he willing to blame the Republicans who are responsible because that would be... well... honest. After a few rambling lists and a myriad of insults, Kim Jong Un has enough! The two equally rational world leaders engage in the best form of argumentation that they know - a dance off! Michael Jackson's Thriller has never been creepier.
