Christ of the Abyss with Ocean Divers Key Largo Florida 2017
Earth is Heaven
Ocean Divers Key Largo Florida provides a great opportunity for beginner divers to moved by the beauty of the ocean.
Christ of the Abyss is a 8 1/2 foot, 4,000 pound bronze sculpture of Jesus Christ that stands in 25 feet of water off of Key Largo, Florida. It is located near Dry Rocks, about six miles east-northeast of the Key Largo Cut, in the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.
This reef is a very shallow dome shaped reef which breaks the surface at low tide on the landward side, and slopes to 25 feet on the seaward side. The statue is one of three cast from a mold by an Italian sculptor Guido Galletti. It was originally made for Egidi Cressi, the dive equipment manufacturer and later donated to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in 1966.
The original Il Christo Degli Abissi statue was placed in the Mediterranean Sea off Genoa, Italy, in 1954. In 1961, a second statue Christ of the Deep was cast from the same mold. The Cressi family of Italy donated the statue to the Underwater Society of America, which in turn donated it to the Florida State Park Service, in recognition of the conservation efforts involved in the creation of America's first underwater park.
The Christ Statue is one of the most famous and visited underwater sites on earth, accessible to divers and snorkelers alike! Shallow high profile spur and groove coral formations are surrounded by relatively flat, coral and sponge encrusted hard bottom, and sand. Large Spotted Eagle Rays and Southern Stingrays are often sighted near the sandy perimeter.

Scuba Diving in Key Largo, Florida: Molasses Reef, French Reef, Benwood & Spiegle Grove dive sites
The most frequently visited dive site in the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, and likely the world, is known as Molasses Reef. During World War II, near midnight on April 9th, 1942, the Norwegian merchant freighter Benwood was on a routine path from Florida to Virginia, transporting a load of phosphate rock. It was running with no lights to avoid being spotted by German U-boats, which was common for ships throughout the war. The Spiegle Grove ship is enormous and much larger than any natural reef structure in the Keys. In fact, at the time of its sinking, the Spiegel Grove was the largest ship ever intentionally sunk to create a new reef for divers, and it remains one of the largest ships ever scuttled for that purpose.

FREEDIVING Christ of the Abyss ( Key Largo ) HD
In shallow water adjacent to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, “Christ of the Abyss” rests at a depth of approximately 25 feet at a site called the Key Largo Dry Rocks in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
Donated to the Underwater Society of America in 1961 by Italian scuba entrepreneur Egidi Cressi, the statue is the third bronze casting of sculptor Guido Galletti’s “Il Cristo Degli Abissi,” translated in English to Christ of the Abyss and also called Christ of the Deep.

Okay here is my first attempt at video editing. I cut my 30 minute Dive down to 5 minutes 30 seconds. From going off the boat to back on the boat you'll pretty much see everything I seen. Also I added background music instead of listening to me breathing through a respirator.

Scuba diving in Florida : John Pennekamp Coral Park, Key Largo
From my amazing underwater adventures in the Florida Keys, USA, in December 2015, Key Largo was the cherry on top. This video was mainly shot at Molasses Reef in John Pennekamp Coral State Park, in Key Largo, where I had the best visibility. Between the coral reefs and the sandy alleys, I met so many species including reef sharks, barracudas and stingrays! Come with me for an underwater visit through the shoals of blue-striped grunt.
