A travel guide for visiting the beach town of Oceanside in California. We'll explore the Oceanside beaches, Oceanside Pier, Oceanside Harbor, famous movie locations including the Top Gun House, Train Station, Pacific Coast Highway, and the Oceanside Farmers Market. Oceanside is the 3rd Largest City in a San Diego County by population with 170,000 residents, and occupies 42 square miles. Oceanside has 6 miles of beautiful sandy coastline. It's 83 miles south of Los Angeles, just south of Camp Pendelton, West Coast's largest Marine Corps base. Oceanside is 38 miles north of downtown San Diego, and 52 miles from the Mexican border.

It is known as Hill street to us oldies but now this place is called Coast Highway. Take a drive with me from downtown, to the ocean and back up to the one way Mission Avenue. The Oceanside Pier, located in Oceanside, in northern San Diego County, California, is a wooden pier on the western United States coastline at 1,954 feet (596 m).
At 1,942 feet, the historical Oceanside Pier is one of the longest wooden piers on the West Coast. Take a leisurely stroll out over the Pacific Ocean, watch the surfers ride a wave, fishermen catch a fish, or grab a bite to eat at the famous Ruby’s Diner located at the end of the pier.
At the entrance of the Pier is the Amphitheater which hosts many musical and cultural performances.
The Oceanside Pier holds special memories for Oceanside residents and visitors alike. Whether you visit the Oceanside Pier in the morning, afternoon, or evening – enjoy it from the beach or by walking along its incredible wooden expanse each day offers something new to behold.
The pier is the backdrop for some great Oceanside events, which include concerts, surf competitions, Iron Man, Fishing Derby, Classic Car Shows, and it is within walking distance to the Farmer’s and Sunset Markets.

There are a lot of cool things to in Oceanside that includes going to Oceanside Harbor beach, The California Surf Museum and Oceanside Fishing Pier. There are also also cool restaurant and shops throughout the city and a Regal Movie Theater right off the beach.
The mixture of people that hang out here is really like no other in the United States. You have Military men and women mixed in with surfer / skaters mixed in with locals and business people. Also Rich's favorite gym in North America is located at LA Fitness Oceanside.
Vintage Oceanside California
The City of Oceanside has gone through some drastic changes over the past ten years, most of the original shops are now gone. What remains is little, so I plan to film as much as possible before it all goes away. This video is just a small portion, there will be more in the future.

Oceanside California: A conversation about the homeless.
Homelessness has become a hot button issue throughout the United States. With housing issues, drug and alcohol use/abuse as well as mental health problems and a myriad of other social and economic causes homelessness is one problem we are finding does not have an easy fix.
I hit the streets in our small beach town of Oceanside California to see what the people have to say. From politicians to the homeless themselves we will see what each have to say about this growing problem.

We were lucky enough to vacation with family on the Strand in Oceanside CA. The night we arrived 7/2/2016 the waves and the tide were both high. The people of Oceanside were all enjoying the action and I had to take some photos and put them together in a slideshow.

Dog Park:
Oceanside has a premier, free to enter, off-leash Dog Park available to locals and guests alike. Located at 2905 San Luis Rey Rd, Oceanside, CA 92058 you will find a peaceful location for your dogs to freely run and play in the cool crisp beach city air.
Trails:
Oceanside has plenty of trail and hiking opportunities, and Fido is welcome to join you on a leash at several of those locations. The San Luis Rey River Trail is a great place to walk your furry friend, with a trail totaling 9 miles with mostly flat and smooth ground this is a local favorite. Guajome Park is another place that invites you to walk your leashed dog, with 4.5 miles of low traffic trails at your disposal.

July 17, 2012. This video footage is mostly around the Oceanside Small Craft Harbor, showing boats and ships of the area, the Oceanside Fishing Pier, WWII Pearl Harbor Memorial, The Jolly Roger Restaurant on the water. Very good food there to eat and a nice scenic window view of the harbor.
I saw boats as small as canoes (which really looks fun to paddle a canoe), to large fishing boats / vessels passing through with tourists and others.
It appears the fishermen of the Oceanside Fishing Pier are trying to catch sharks and stingrays and whatever. I saw some catching fish like perch, sea bass, ones like that.
I think there's a US Naval Station somewhere not far away, but maybe another time. I had to get moving along from southern California back to Arizona.
