Hawaii's Big Island Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Hawaii’s Big Island – The “Big Island” of Hawaii is (you guessed it) the largest of the Hawaiian Islands and offers a stunning array of beautiful scenery for you to explore. Check out the best sights and activities on the island, here!
When ready, browse vacation packages to Hawaii’s Big Island:
A #Hawaii #vacation means days filled with natural wonders: wander around a lava field, stroll through a tropical rainforest, and take a dip in the warm waters of the Pacific.
The Onomea Bay Scenic Drive, located along the Hamakua Coast, will take you past shimmering emerald rainforest and astonishing glimpses of the tranquil Pacific Ocean. It’s the perfect place to get some pictures and see what the beauty of Hawaii is really about.
No #tour of Hawaii’s Big Island is complete without meeting the sea turtles of Kahalu’u Bay. Strap on your snorkel and swim around the warm, blue-green waters of the bay to meet turtles and thousands of other sea creatures.
Try out paddleboarding, jet skiing, or a variety of other watersports. Alternatively, spoil yourself in the time-honored indulgence of relaxing on the black lava sands, soaking up some of the legendary Hawaiian sunshine.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

The Cost of Living in Hawaii - Housing, Groceries, & more!
I have lived here for 4 years now and this has been one of my most requested videos! I thought I’d go ahead and share a realistic picture of what it costs to live in Hawaii. These are based on my personal experiences and might be different depending on where you live and on which island.
Both money and Hawaii are sensitive topics which is why I don’t dive too deep into some of the complicated issues surrounding the problems that Hawaii faces. I consider myself a guest here and am slowly seeking to understand and educate myself more.
Here are some of the current costs laid out:
Rent for 1 bedroom apartment: $1,500-$2200 / month
Groceries and eating out for 2 people: $500-$800 / month
Car: about the same as mainland but requires more maintenance due to humidity and salt in the air. Registration / safety is about $400 a year.
Gas: $3.25 / gallon
Gym on North Shore: $200 / month
Crossfit gym on North Shore: $180 / month
(Specific to Hawaii) Self employed GE tax: 5%
Grocery costs in the video:
Loaf of bread: $5-8
Bananas: $1-2 / lb
Avocados: $2.50 each
Lemons + limes: $1 each
Strawberries: $6-8 for small carton
Bell peppers: $5 / lb
Broccoli, carrots, & most other veggies: $2-4 / lb
Kale + lettuce: $3-5 / lb
Peanut butter: $7-10
Orange juice: $7
Organic milk: $8
Almond milk: $6
Regular non-fat milk: $6
Butter: $5-7
8 CT granola bars: $5
11 oz Gold Fish: $6
Dreyers ice cream: $9
Lots of these can be found cheaper if you shop around or look at Costco though!
If you want to move to Hawaii you need to be realistic. Having a specific skill set such as a trade or years of experience will help you in the job market. It is difficult for even people born here to find a job, so please be mindful that there are limited resources. Another option is to work remotely or self employed. It’s a good idea to test the waters by coming here for a semester or internship to see if you even like it here. Most people move away because living in Hawaii is not easy or convenient.
Housing is also extremely limited. I get asked all the time if I know of any places for rent but to be honest, if I did I would be living there or telling my friends about it first! It’s best if you have connections on the island already. There aren’t a ton of options but if you are flexible about location you will find something. It took us a few years to find a place we really liked and it was only because we had connections.
There’s nothing wrong with keeping Hawaii as a vacation spot! Come enjoy the island, be mindful of its culture and people, try lots of good food, and spend your money where it counts.
I have some resources on my blog that dive more into Hawaii stuff if you're interested:

Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America 2018
English Captions Available!!!
MS Pride of America is a legendary cruise ship worked in the United States and is worked by Norwegian Cruise Lines. Introduced amid the 2005/2006 voyage season as the main new US-hailed cruise ship in almost fifty years, Pride of America was intended to pay tribute to the soul of the United States of America, from the energetic craftsmanship on the frame to the American-themed open spaces.
Pride of America is an erratic ship outline. She was initially intended for United States Lines under the class name Project America. Undertaking America was initially to have two ships in the class.

Living in Hawaii, Best and Worst
Living in Hawaii, Best and Worst
Yes Hawaii is paradise. I've been living here for 2 years now, so have an update on the realities of it. I've lived on 3 islands, Oahu, Big Island, which is Hawaii Island, and Kauai -- my favorite is Kauai.
You have to check out each island and see which island works for you. Hawaii is the most amazingly beautiful place on earth so its fun to explore and discover all the islands.
Many rentals don't advertise for tenants, you just have to hear about it from a friend. This is a very rural community with only 65,000 people living on Kauai. It truly is the most gorgeous place I've ever been.
Check it out and don't forget to subscribe for more tips.

Rainfall Variability and Drought in the Hawaiian Islands
This webinar was conducted as part of the Climate Change Science and Management Webinar Series, held in partnership by the USGS National Climate Change and Wildilfe Science Center and the USFWS National Conservation Training Center. Webinar Description: Drought is a prominent feature of the climate of Hawai‘i with severe impacts in multiple sectors. Over the last century, Hawai‘i has experienced downward trends in rainfall and stream baseflow, an upward trend in the number of consecutive dry days and wildfire incidents, and regional projections show that unusually severe dry seasons will become increasingly common on the leeward sides of all Hawaiian Islands. This talk presents the state of the science on drought in Hawai‘i, and analyzes a new gridded drought index product (SPI, Standardized Precipitation Index) that was developed for the main Hawaiian Islands from 1920 to 2012. This dataset is used to determine the relationships between drought and large-scale modes of natural climate variability (including the El Niño-Southern Oscillation), analyze the spatial extent, frequency, severity, and duration of historical drought events, and examine trends through time. This spatially explicit analysis provides the historical context needed to understand future projections, and contributes to more effective policy and management of natural, cultural, hydrological and agricultural resources.

Kona Riviera Villa 201 Ocean side Condo Kailua Kona Vacation Rental
1 Bedroom - In quaint 12 unit complex - Right on Ocean
This cozy, comfortable and unique condo is located within the small, quaint, and quiet Kona Riviera Villa complex. The complex is located on Ali' Drive (the ocean drive from the village of Kailua-Kona to the small community of Keauhou). This unit (Number 201) is in the first (oceanfront) building, on the upper level, and has unobstructed, gorgeous ocean views from every room. There are only 4 units located in this oceanfront building at the Villas.
Sit on your very own, private lanai which is direct oceanfront and watch the dolphins and whales frolic in the ocean; relax on the living room sofa looking out at the beautiful Kona sunsets; cook your favorite meal in the lovely recently updated kitchen while looking out at the serene ocean; lie in bed while peacefully dreaming of paradise and watching the ocean tides. If you love the ocean, enjoy peace and quiet, and appreciate a location that has a beachy character, this place is for you. Feel the ocean breezes and fresh salt air every day of your vacation. For your comfort, we recently added A/C to the bedroom.
The Kailua-Kona Coast has the most colorful and spectacular pink, lavender, and orange sunsets in Hawaii. Maybe you’ll be lucky and spot the famous 'Green Flash” at sunset, as the sun dips behind the horizon. You can watch the incredible Kona sunsets right from one of the decks or the lanai, as well as the cruise ships, para-sailing, whales and dolphins.
The Kailua-Kona Historical Village is a short drive from the Kona Riviera Villas (2 miles north on Ali'i Drive) . The Village is very quaint, with lots of charm and good shopping right along the water’s edge. Some of the activities you can find in the Village and nearby are: beaches, luau’s, farmer’s markets, art galleries, jewelry shops, restaurants, boating, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, boogie boarding, and deep sea fishing…Just about every water sport you can think of! There are also several great golf courses nearby. There is so much to do to stay active, or you can do nothing and just lounge on the beach.
