A Walk Around & Lunch In Santa Barbara
Went to see the Moholy-Nagy paintings at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, then lunch at the Harbor. I was not allowed to film in the museum, so I captured the outside of it. Took a walk down State Street and then over to The Harbor to Brophy Bros. Restaurant and Clam Bar, bought some fish at the Fish Market, and found our way home.
D'Art Santa Barbara
D’Art Santa Barbara is a novel approach to learning about artists and their work. It uses the randomness of the dart to approach its subject matter and along the way takes various unexpected twists and turns, all in the service of art. The film is produced by Larry Nimmer, a performance artist and filmmaker with several Emmy Nominations.
The program starts off with Nimmer throwing a dart at a map of the Santa Barbara Open Studio Tour. As the dart randomly lands on an artist location, Nimmer visits that artist during their open studio. Each artist critiques their own work and responds to Nimmer’s random queries. And, whenever the artists mention something of artistic interest, Nimmer goes on a detour to look at its provenance.
At the end of each visit, that artist throws the dart at the Studio Tour map to choose the next artist for Nimmer to visit and profile… and so on. Seven artists in all were randomly chosen by the dart for Nimmer’s unusual cinematic treatment. Some of the film’s “left turns” involve famous and not so famous artists and Nimmer himself, ever the performance artist. The 45-minute film is a first in a series of D’Art visits planned for other Open Studios Tours around the world.

Places to see in ( Santa Barbara - USA )
Places to see in ( Santa Barbara - USA )
Perfect weather, beautiful buildings, excellent bars and restaurants in Santa Barbara California, and activities for all tastes and budgets make Santa Barbara a great place to live and a must-see place for visitors to Southern California. Check out the Spanish Mission church first, then just see where the day takes you.
Santa Barbara is a city on the central California coast, with the Santa Ynez Mountains as dramatic backdrop. Downtown, Mediterranean-style white stucco buildings with red-tile roofs reflect the city’s Spanish colonial heritage. Upscale boutiques and restaurants offering local wines and seasonal fare line State Street. On a nearby hill, Mission Santa Barbara, founded in 1786, houses Franciscan friars and a museum.
Santa Barbara has a range of neighborhoods with distinctive histories, architectures, and cultures. The Mesa stretches 2.5 miles (4.0 km) from Santa Barbara City College on the east to Arroyo Burro County Beach (or Hendry's/The Pit to locals) on the west. The Mesa embodies a beach vibe. The neighborhood has beach access to Mesa Lane Beach, as well as Thousand Steps Beach. Mission Canyon contains the wooded hilly area beginning at the Old Mission and extending along Foothill Road, north and east into Mission Canyon Road and Las Canoas Road.
The Riviera encompasses an ocean-facing hillside and back hillside extending for approximately two miles, with the north side extending from Foothill Road to Sycamore Canyon Road, and the south side from the Santa Barbara Mission to North Salinas Street. The Westside (west of State Street) lies predominantly in the lowlands between State Street and the Mesa, including Highway 101, and also reaches down to Cliff Drive, incorporating Santa Barbara City College.
The Eastside (east of State Street) is generally the area east of State to the base of the Riviera, and includes Santa Barbara Junior High School, Santa Barbara High School, and the Santa Barbara Bowl. The Waterfront comprises roughly commercial and tourist-oriented business structures along Cabrillo Blvd including Stearns Wharf, the Santa Barbara Harbor and the breakwater, and extending East toward the Bird Refuge and West along Shoreline Drive above the SBCC campus West.
Upper State Street is a residential and commercial district that includes numerous professional offices, and much of the medical infrastructure of the city. San Roque is located northwest of the downtown area and north of Samarkand. This area is said to be a constant 5 degrees warmer than the coastal areas, due to its greater distance from the ocean than other Santa Barbara neighborhoods. The name Samarkand comes from an Old Persian word meaning the land of heart's desire. It was first applied to a deluxe Persian-style hotel that was converted from a boys' school in 1920. Samarkand later became identified as its own neighborhood located between Las Positas, State Street, De La Vina, Oak Park and the Freeway.

Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History
We’re not your typical structured museum with stiff curators, cold halls, and strict rules. We like to go outside and get our hands dirty, pick things up and take a closer look, laugh, skip, or maybe even jump for joy. Because learning is messy and we all learn by doing, not sitting. That’s why we offer a different approach to discovering the natural world: one where you’re free to wander, ask “silly” questions, and explore on your own terms. And when you come here you’ll see we’re a museum unlike anything else. In a nutshell, we’re naturally different.

WEEKEND in SANTA BARBARA - TOP 10 THINGS TO SEE and DO - VLOG (2018)
Santa Barbara is one of the most beautiful destinations in California, nicknamed the American Riviera. Located along the Pacific Coast and only 92 miles north of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara is the perfect weekend destination.
In this vlog, we explore the fun things the city offers, including the Cabrillo bike path, Urban Wine Trail, State Street, historic Spanish colonial architecture, Santa Barbara Zoo, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
A few months before our visit, this region experienced deadly mudslides and fires, and the area is repairing itself. The community is stronger than ever and there is no better time to visit Santa Barbara. The best way to support the community is through your tourism and patronage of the local businesses. #seeSB

Scenery, Story, Spirit: American Painting and Sculpture from the Santa Barbara Museum of Art
Between the 1830s and the end of the First World War, American art came into its own. From the majestic Hudson River School paintings of Thomas Cole, John Kensett, and Albert Bierstadt to the gritty urban realism of Robert Henri and John Sloan, this presentation draws on the rich holdings of American paintings and sculptures in the collection of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Organized by guest curator Peter John Brownlee, this selection highlights the maturation of a distinctly American idiom, one informed by international currents and engaged with capturing the fluxes of modern life. Masterpieces of landscape, genre, still-life, and portraiture, punctuated by a selection of sculptures, trace an evolution in style from an art driven by the mandates of westward expansion to one animated by experimentation. In both idealized and naturalistically rendered landscapes, in scenes of everyday life, or meticulously detailed images of everyday objects, the presentation also narrates an important chapter in American cultural history that witnessed the Civil War and its aftermath, the expansion of national boundaries and the closing of the western frontier, and the transformations wrought by the emergence of new technologies at the dawn of the 20th century.
The Funk Zone: The Other Side of Santa Barbara
James O'Mahoney, who owns and operates two museums in The Funk Zone, contrasts this area with the rest of Santa Barbara. It's a little slice of bohemia residing west of the train tracks opposite the glitzy State Street shopping area. Artist and poet, Daniel Swann, recites part of his poem Developer's Disease which bemoans the shrinking of The Funk Zone. Video by Autumn Cruz.
