Year 1 Episode 4; RV'ing Arizona - Dead Horse Ranch State Park & Tuzigoot Monument
We continue our adventure in Cottonwood, AZ at Dead Horse Ranch State park. We have been here a few times now, and enjoy the local attractions and the many activities at the park: fishing, hiking trails and horseback riding. We followed one of the trails at the park and ended up at Tuzigoot National Monument, which is the site of an old Native American settlement that was abandoned about 500 years ago. The remaining ruins are mostly only a few feet high, but there is a large building on top of the hill that is compete. It is an amazing location and really makes you imagine how people lived out here hundreds of years ago.

OTPWR Sedona, Arizona - Dead Horse Ranch SP - Cathedral Rock Trail - Full Time Family RV Living
For this week's episode, we decided that we'd had enough of typical RV parks for a while, so we ventured slightly off the beaten path and into the Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood, Arizona. Our goal was a decent proximity to the town we love so much, Sedona. Dead Horse Ranch turned out to be exactly what we were looking for. It was the first time we were without sewer hookups, but did have water and electric. Things were very quiet and we were plenty pleased to witness the lunar eclipse from here with its dark skies an bright stars. Jen and the kids took plenty of drives up to Sedona for some sight seeing in town and some trail hikes in the gorgeous surroundings. Midweek Travis got a chance to hit the mountain bike trails straight from the RV which is always welcome. It was great to get the heart beating and pedals turning. When work wrapped up on Friday afternoon, we all made our way back to Sedona to hike the slightly strenuous Cathedral Rock Trail. Although fairly busy, this is definitely one to put on your hiking list while in the area. Saturday left us driving back to the Phoenix area so we could be close to Sky Harbor airport to fly Jen and the kids back to Colorado for some maintenance on some braces. We've always loved this area of Arizona and shall forever keep it on our short lit of places to play!
Also in this episode, we do something about our RV bathroom door lock. Our rig came with a sliding door between the bathroom and master bedroom that had no way of locking. So, we installed one that has been working very well.

Walnut Canyon National Monument, Arizona
02-07-2015 Produced by Erick F Dircks
I got up in time to record the sunrise, and took another shower while recording the sunrise. Laureen had breakfast ready when I got back to camp. We made reservations at Dead Horse Ranch State Park for two nights because of the adventures around Sedona, Arizona. Arrived Walnut Canyon National Monument around 10am to see where Cliff Dwellers once lived. It was amazing to see how they formed their community on the same level around the canyon. I informed several other guests that I was glad it was 2015 instead of 1250, and they whole heartily agreed. I also made mentioned that there was no Women's Liberation then, the women got a laugh out of it, and gave me a high five. Taking the back roads to Dead Horse Ranch State Park was a very beautiful trip which took us through Sedona, AZ. It was the first time we arrived at our campsite before sundown, with plenty of time to set up camp, wash the car with a broom, took some beautiful reflection shots, and a Bald Eagle.

Horseback Riding Right Hand Fork, Logan Canyon, Utah Sept. 2019
My Dad and I took Dolly and Roman to check out the Little Cottonwood Creek Loop trail up Right Hand Fork in Logan Canyon. We ended up diverting from the Jeep road and did some cross country exploring. There was a slight breeze and the vistas in the high meadows were stunning to take in. The leaves are starting to change as we're heading into fall here in Cache Valley and the color play was a welcome sight.

Camp Verde, Arizona Dirt Bike Chill Trail Ride Scenic Views 2019
Just a quick chill ride to check out the trails and scenic views around the Camp Verde river in Arizona. This was during the end of April so it was perfect temperature and spring was in full bloom.
We don't ride too hard because we don't want to get hurt and we try to take it easy on our bikes. This was just the first ride we recorded on our trip and I will have more content to upload as soon as I can get it edited.

Cottonwood Campground - Canyon de Chelly
A nice, large campground INSIDE Canyon de Chelly National Monument near Chinle AZ. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE. No reservations. A few quirks.... in the video I mentioned feral dogs. Turned out they arent feral, but 'owned' by locals (or maybe recently abandoned) that are mainly looking for food.... so be careful. I actually made a 'friend' of a pit (didnt feed him but he knew I was kind) but still was leery of him approaching our beautiful black lab - who doesnt have a mean/defensive molecule in his body ;-) And the bathroom situation wasnt as dire as I first thought.... yes, only one CAMPGROUND bathroom was open with one unworking toilet out of three, but (heres an insider tip to my YouTube viewers) the PICNIC restrooms - which are PRIVATE, locking rooms WERE!!! A nice option in the morning!!! They are located between the checkin station and picnic area. Just a few steps off the campground road!!! A great find ;-) Burrs were bad ;-( Constantly pulling them out of pups foot, and ours.
Dead Horse Ranch State Park + Angie Turns 15!
In this video, I continue my 2017/2018 Snowbird trip series with a look at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood, Arizona.
First, I show you our route from Saddle Mountian BLM up to Cottonwood with including a two-night stopover in the Table Mesa Rec Area, a free boondocking campground about 15 miles north of Phoenix.
Once in the Dead Horse Ranch State Park, we celebrate the beagle's 15th birthday, and you join Angie and me for a hike around the park. I show you the camping areas, the surrounding countryside, and the fishing ponds.
The video ends with some advice and directions to find maps and information for those looking to do some boondocking in the beautiful National Forest lands that surround Sedona.
