Aylsham is a historic market town and civil parish on the River Bure in north Norfolk, England, nearly 9 mi north of Norwich. 1. Bure Valley Railway Aylsham
The Bure Valley Railway is a 15 in minimum gauge heritage railway in Norfolk, within The Broads National Park. The railway runs from Wroxham to Aylsham and is Norfolk's longest railway of less than standard gauge. It uses both steam and diesel locomotives. There are intermediate halts at Brampton, Buxton and Coltishall. There are 17 bridges, including a 105 ft long girder bridge over the River Bure in Buxton with Lammas as well as Aylsham Bypass Tunnel under the A140 at Aylsham.

Stracey Arms Windpump is a windpump located at Tunstall in the civil parish of Halvergate, Norfolk, England. It is a grade II* listed building.It is a four storey drainage mill with a tapering red brick tower and a boat shaped weatherboarded cap. The cap, cap gallery, sails, fan and tail pole are all in place. The internal machinery is in working order and drives a turbine pump. The pump was used to drain the surrounding marshland into a channel leading to the River Bure, but was superseded by an electric pump installed in an adjacent building. The mill was built in 1883 by Robert Barnes of Great Yarmouth and was extensively modified in 1912. During the Second World War it was converted into a fortified pillbox with gun ports in the sides. Gorleston-on-Sea, also known colloquially as Gorleston, is a settlement in Norfolk, England, on the south of Great Yarmouth. Situated at the mouth of the River Yare it was a port town at the time of the Domesday Book. The port then became a centre of fishing for herring along with salt pans used for the production of salt to preserve the fish. In Edwardian times the fishing industry rapidly declined and the town's role changed to that of a seaside resort.

Thursford is a village and civil parish in the county of Norfolk, eastern England. The village is 16.3 miles southwest of Cromer, 24.5 miles northwest of Norwich and 121 miles north-east of London. The village lies 6.9 miles northwest of the nearby town of Fakenham. The nearest railway station is at Sheringham for the Bittern Line which runs between Sheringham, Cromer and Norwich. The nearest airport is Norwich International Airport. The village once had its own Thursford railway station which is now closed. It is a proposed stop on the Norfolk Orbital Railway. Thursford parish church is dedicated to St Andrew and has some fine examples of Victorian stained glass windows. Blickling is a village and civil parish in the Broadland district of Norfolk, England, about 1.5 miles north-west of Aylsham on the B1354 road. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 136 and covers 862 hectares , falling to 113 at the 2011 Census. Since the 17th century the village has been concentrated in two areas, around the church and also at the park gates of Blickling Hall. Most of the village is contained in the Blickling Estate, which has been owned by the National Trust since 1940.

Horsey is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk within The Broads National Park. It covers an area of 8.49 km2 and had a population of 99 in 40 households at the 2001 census. At the 2011 Census the population remained less than 100 and was included in the civil parish of Sea Palling. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of North Norfolk. It is situated at the end of Horsey Mere, a nature reserve. Horsey Windpump is the youngest Windpump in the Broads having been built by Dan England in 1912 and is in the care of the National Trust. Blickling Hall is a stately home in the village of Blickling north of Aylsham in Norfolk, England, that has been in the care of the National Trust since 1940.

In the fifteenth century, Blickling Hall was in the possession of Sir John Fastolf of Caister in Norfolk (1380--1459), who made a fortune in the Hundred Years' War, and whose coat of arms is still on display there. Later, the Hall was in the possession of the Boleyn family, and home to Sir Thomas Boleyn, created Earl of Wiltshire, and his wife, Elizabeth, between 1499 and 1505. It is presumed that their first two children Mary and George were born at Blickling Hall, along with several other Boleyn infants who did not live long. If the couple's most famous child, Anne Boleyn, was born before 1505 (as one school of historical thought contends) then she too was born at Blickling. Other historians maintain that Anne was born after 1505, probably in 1507, and by that time Sir Thomas had moved to Hever Castle in Kent. Nonetheless, a statue and portrait of Anne Boleyn reside in Blickling Hall claiming Anna Bolena hic nata 1507 (Anne Boleyn born here 1507).

The current Blickling Hall was built on the ruins of the old Boleyn property in the reign of James I, by Sir Henry Hobart, Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas and 1st Baronet, who bought Blickling from Robert Clere in 1616. The architect of Hatfield House, Robert Lyminge, is credited with the design of the current structure. The Lord Chief Justice married Dorothy, the daughter of Sir Robert Bell of Beaupre Hall, Outwell/Upwell, Norfolk, Speaker of the House of Commons 1572--1576. A grand display of heraldic material is present throughout the estate.

Weavers Way, Norfolk - First Leg - Gt Yarmouth to Acle

A jaunt across the marshes for the first leg of the Weavers Way, 61 miles across Norfolk from Great Yarmouth to Cromer, it might not be the official route but we are doing Pier to Pier over the next few weeks hopefully ending before Christmas with a well earned beer (or two) in the theatre bar on Cromer Pier. Anyhow, here's the first leg, Yarmouth to Acle via Berney Arms (twinned with Royston Vasey)
