Gorleston-on-Sea, also known colloquially as Gorleston, is a settlement in Norfolk, England, on the south of Great Yarmouth. Situated at the mouth of the River Yare it was a port town at the time of the Domesday Book. The port then became a centre of fishing for herring along with salt pans used for the production of salt to preserve the fish. In Edwardian times the fishing industry rapidly declined and the town's role changed to that of a seaside resort.

Blickling is a village and civil parish in the Broadland district of Norfolk, England, about 1.5 miles north-west of Aylsham on the B1354 road. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 136 and covers 862 hectares , falling to 113 at the 2011 Census. Since the 17th century the village has been concentrated in two areas, around the church and also at the park gates of Blickling Hall. Most of the village is contained in the Blickling Estate, which has been owned by the National Trust since 1940.

Horsey is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk within The Broads National Park. It covers an area of 8.49 km2 and had a population of 99 in 40 households at the 2001 census. At the 2011 Census the population remained less than 100 and was included in the civil parish of Sea Palling. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of North Norfolk. It is situated at the end of Horsey Mere, a nature reserve. Horsey Windpump is the youngest Windpump in the Broads having been built by Dan England in 1912 and is in the care of the National Trust. The principal local football club is Norwich City, also known as the Canaries, who play in the second tier of English football, the Championship, after being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015–16 season.

Norwich stands north of the A47 (bypassed to the south of the city), which connects it with Great Yarmouth to the east, and Kings Lynn and Peterborough to the west. This Giant Rock Was a Pilgrimage Spot for Alien Enthusiasts

Giant Rock in Landers, California, is made of thousands of pounds of granite, and is widely considered to be one of the biggest freestanding boulders in the world. It is said to have been important to Native American communities, and throughout its history, it’s attracted hermits, UFO fanatics, and Instagram pilgrims.

Diss Norfolk in the 1940s

Wonderful 8mm colour cine film of the market town of Diss in Norfolk from the late 1940s. This was filmed by my grandfather and features his original home-made captions!

The first section is entitled Diss & it's picturesque surroundings and features footage shot at various locations throughout the town - Mere Street, Market Hill, The Dolphin House and Church, Mount Street, Fair Green and includes some great film of a bustling market day.

Mere Reflections has various shots of the town across the Mere from various points around its perimeter.

Shopping Week July 1949 is footage of that years carnival - was it known as shopping week back then? Great footage of the carnival queen and her assistants with the local dignitaries, the carnival float processions through Mere Street, the watching crowds and then children's fancy dress competition. Some of this was filmed at the Saracens Head Bowls Club - now a car park!

The final part of the film includes footage of the Lowes, Stuston Common and some fabulous shots of Scole Inn and its Old World Gardens .... the gardens are also now a car park!

This film is part of a collection of cine footage of Norfolk, shot by my grandfather Stanley Arthur Youngs between the 1930s and 1950s. Born and bred in South Norfolk and a baker by trade, my grandfather was also a keen amateur cine photographer with a passion for creating films of rural Norfolk life which he delighted in showing to people in a makeshift cinema in the bakehouse.
