Places to see in ( St Just - UK )
St Just is a town and civil parish in the Penwith district of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It lies along the B3306 road which connects St Ives to the A30 road. The parish encompasses the town of St Just and the nearby settlements of Trewellard, Pendeen and Kelynack: it is bounded by the parishes of Morvah to the north-east, Sancreed and Madron to the east, St Buryan and Sennen to the south and by the sea in the west.
The town of St Just is the most westerly town in mainland Britain and is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) west of Penzance along the A3071. St Just parish, which includes Pendeen and the surrounding area. St Just lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park. St Just is one of only two towns included within the Cornwall AONB.
The identity of Saint Just is not known. Cornwall's long resistance to the edicts of Canterbury and Rome makes it most unlikely that the saint was Archbishop Justus of Canterbury, as some sources claim.[citation needed] Another possibility is the 6th- or 7th-century Saint Iestyn, said to be the son of a ruler of Dumnonia.
Among the prehistoric antiquities nearby is Ballowall Barrow, a chambered tomb. St Just is one of the most ancient mining districts in Cornwall, and remains of ancient pre-industrial and more modern mining activity have had a considerable impact on the nearby landscape.
The parish church of St Just is a fine 15th-century building. In 1336 the church was rebuilt and dedicated by John Grandisson, Bishop of Exeter; however only the chancel of this church survives and the nave and aisles are 15th-century in date. There are two Methodist chapels. St Just is the home of Cape Cornwall School which also serves Sennen, Sancreed, Pendeen, St Buryan and other places in the district.
St Just is home to the popular Lafrowda festival a seven-day community and arts celebration usually held in Mid July. A more ancient celebration associated with the town is St Just Feast which is held every year to celebrate the dedication of the parish church in 13 July 1336. Feast celebrations were moved to the Sunday nearest to All Saints' Day in 1536 following an Act of Henry VIII which means it usually take place at the end of October / beginning of November. Feast itself is a two-day event with a church service and civic procession being held on Feast Sunday and a larger scale popular celebration being held on Feast Monday (which includes a meeting of the Western Hunt). A description of St Just Feast
St Just also has a 'Plen an Gwarry' (Cornish for playing place), locally pronounced 'Plain an Gwarry'. These sites were used historically for open-air performance, entertainment and instruction. St Just's Plen an Gwarry occasionally hosts productions of the Cornish Ordinalia mystery plays. St Just has a healthy artistic scene, including the painter Kurt Jackson who has made several television appearances. Contemporary singer and comedian Jethro from nearby St Buryan played for St Just Rugby Club and has recorded a song entitled St Just.

Cornwall: A Photo Tour Promotion
The Duchy of Cornwall, a peninsula jutting out into the mighty Atlantic Ocean in the far south west of Britain, is the setting for the TV blockbuster series, 'Poldark'. With its rugged cliffs, golden sandy beaches and pretty fishing villages, Cornwall has some of the best coastline in Europe, and the quality of the light here attracted many top artists in the early-twentieth century, giving rise to the famous St Ives School.
The Penwith area contains more ancient monuments and sites than any other place in Britain. This is one of the longest consecutively settled landscapes in the world, where Neolithic megaliths, Bronze Age field systems, Iron Age hill forts and Celtic holy wells, are sited cheek by jowl with medieval farmsteads and abandoned tin and copper mines.
Indeed, Cornwall was at the very vanguard of the British Industrial Revolution, producing the majority of its tin and copper, and its iconic engine houses and other industrial buildings now form part of the UNESCO Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.
With its mild climate due to the Gulf Stream, spring in Cornwall is especially delightful, as a dazzling display of wild flowers pepper the cliff tops, moors and valleys.

A Day of Landscape Photography in Cornwall | Bedruthan Steps, St. Nectan's Glen & Land's End
The vlog today features landscape photography in Corwall. What an amazing place to shoot pictures!
For my landscape photography check out my Instagram: @brendanvanson.
I'm on a landscape photography road trip to Cornwall this week. On this photography vlog, I get told all the time that I need to go and shoot Cornwall. So, I've finally taken your advice and headed that way. I'm glad I did. Yesterday, I shot a cool landscape just outside of Cornwall (see the video here: ). Then, I ended that photography vlog by sleeping in my car at Bedruthan Steps when I planned on shooting sunrise this morning. In the end, that's exactly what I did.
Bedruthan Steps is a great place for landscape photography. I got up before sunrise and hiked down to my location and managed to get some beautiful pastel colours in the sky before the sun rose. I loved the location, and the pre-sunrise light was just perfect for the photos I wanted. I got some cool lines of the coast, the steps, and the sea in my frame. I was beyond happy with the way my imagery came out that morning.
I hiked out of Bedruthan steps just after sunrise and moved on to my next location: St. Nectan's Glen.
St. Nectan's Glen was also a cool location. It was about a 20 minute hike into the waterfall. The waterfall is privately owned, so it does cost some cash. The entry fee was 5 pounds, but they do lend you some rubber boots with the entry fee, so it's worth it. I shot a couple images there, had a blast and then drove off to my final location of the day.
Land's end was a brilliant spot for landscape photography in Cornwall. Just an absolutely incredible place to shoot.
I didn't exactly find my landscape photography location - I wanted to shoot the arch - but I still found a cool location, and the light just exploded! I ended the vlog there just after sunrise.
On the photography vlog tomorrow I am going to be shooting another location in Cornwall before making my way home. So stay tuned for more fun.

Cornwall, England - The North Coast
England's county of Cornwall is rustic and rich in natural beauty. Located in the far southwest of the country it was once the center of tin mining in Great Britain. Cornwall is now one of the county's most popular tourist destination. Its rugged coastline is often featured in feature films and television programs like the BBC's Poldark. Cornwall was a Celtic Nation and still has a great deal of pride in its past claiming to be the birth place of the legendary King Arthur. • Angevin - Thatched Villagers by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (

Q&A: How I Find Travel Photography Work and More
Today it's Q&A time. Lots of questions including: how do I find work as a travel photographer?
With a long drive back to London from The Isle of Skye, I had planned on doing some travel photography on the way home. But, the weather kind of killed my plans. It basically rained the whole time. So, instead of filming, I decided to push on and shoot a Q&A when I got back to London.
So, this episode is of the Q&A variety.
Over on my facebook page, and here on YouTube I asked you guys for questions related to Kyrgyzstan and my life as a travel photographer in general.
You came up with loads of really good questions. I decided to answer 11.
They are:
1) What do you like more about your career, travel or photography?
2) How did you find the Kyrgyzstan assignment? What were the deliverables?
3) If someone was planning a week in Kyrgyzstan what should they see?
4) Rob - Are you still upgrading to the 6D mark ii? The reviews have been bad.
5) Political question: How does the Muslim world seem to you? How friendly are people?
6) How did you keep batteries charged on hikes in Kyrgyzstan?
7) When you're done with travel photography, what's next?
8) Is the travel photography industry too saturated a market place?
9) How do you know you're ready to provide photos to clients?
10) How do you stay motivated, positive?
11) How do you store your photos?
That's it for today's Q&A. I wanted to also mention live friday's are starting. And, this Friday I'll be doing a live photo tutorial on Instagram from Bath, England.
The idea of Live Friday is to go live on various platforms every friday.
There are 4 different platforms:
1) Facebook - I'll be doing Q&A's
2) Periscope/Twitter - I'll be doing live tours
3) YouTube - I'm going to try to bring on a guest for a podcast-style Q&A
4) Instagram - I'll be doing live photo tutorials.
