Dunbrody's Ship Tour
The Visitor Experience provides a unique insight into a period of history which shaped modern day Ireland and America. Follow in the footsteps of a group of Famine emigrants as you board the Dunbrody. A ticket is issued as if it were 1849, and this ticket allocates your space and food rations for the voyage ahead. Explore the ship, fitted out exactly as it would be for a voyage. Encounter actors, playing the role of emigrants, in their cramped quarters with their meagre possessions. A member of the crew will tells visitors about life on board a sailing ship. This authentic recreation with it's actors, sound effects and smells, will transport you back in time.
Ros Tapestry
The Ros Tapestries depict events around the Anglo-Norman arrival to the South East of Ireland, specifically the founding of the town of New Ross, Co. Wexford by William Marshall and Isabel de Clare. The Ros Tapestry Project is a massive community initative in progress in the County of Wexford.
The John F Kennedy Arboretum
Dedicated to the memory of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, President of the United States from 1960 to 1963, the Arboretum is a plant collection of international standing. It covers 252 hectares (623 acres) on the southern slopes and summit of Slievecoiltia, 12 km south of New Ross. It contains 4,500 types of trees and shrubs from all temperate regions of the world, planted in botanical sequence. The lake is the most popular part of the Arboretum, and is a haven for waterfowl. A road provides access to the summit at 271m from which there are panoramic views. A Visitor Centre houses exhibitions and audio visual show.
Kennedy Homestead
The Kennedy Homestead, birthplace of President John F. Kennedy's great-grandfather Patrick Kennedy, celebrates the story of five generations of the Kennedy dynasty and is still today farmed by his descendants. Joining the multitudes of Irish fleeing the Great Famine, Patrick Kennedy departed from this Homestead for the port of New Ross on a wet day in 1848 to set sail for the United States where his descendants were to become the worlds most famous family. The Kennedy Homestead is a unique Cultural Museum and Visitor Centre, celebrating the Kennedy family history.
Irish National Heritage Park
Surprises await around every turn as visitors explore 35 acres of this heritage trail. From early Stone Age Campsite to Ringfort, from Mill to Fulacht Fiadh, from Crannog to Viking House, every activity is an unexpected adventure into 9,000 years. The world visitors enter is an authentic recreation of Ireland's heritage. Homesteads, places of ritual, burial modes and long forgotten remains will enlighten the casual visitor and interest the scholar.
Johnstown Castle Estate
The exquisite 19th century Johnstown Castle is nestled within fifty acres of ornamental grounds. Stroll through the wooded grounds with over two hundred different kinds of trees and shrubs or relax by the castle lakeside with its Gothic towers and waterfalls. Ramble along the Castle lake terrace walk lined with statues to the Garden lake. Both lakes are home to a wide range of waterfowl - mute swans, water hens, little grebes and heron. Pass through the Devil's Gateway into the walled ornamental gardens and hothouses. This hidden paradise provides a dazzling, colourful array of flowering plants. The sunken Italian Garden contains a shaded picnic area where one can sit and watch the peacocks strut by. Another attraction is the ruin of a medieval tower house called Rathlannon Castle. Please note that unfortunately Johnstown Castle itself is not open to the public.
Hook Lighthouse
The Lighthouse is a 13th Century Norman structure, built by the Earl of Pembroke. The Visitor Centre at Hook Lighthouse in County Wexford, Ireland, offers guided tours of the lighthouse tower. culminating with the spectacular view from the balcon. Relax by the sea and keep an eye out for seals, dolphins and even whales. In clear weather you can see for miles and in a storm the spray often reaches the top of the lighthouse.
