Together with Kristin Addis (bemytravelmuse.com) I went on a road trip exploring Northern Ireland and all the Game of Thrones shooting locations which have been used in the show by HBO. We went on our very own Game of Thrones Tour based on research with the help of the local Tourism Board and some of the Tour operators.
With this we show you all the Game of Thrones spots which actually exist in real life and can be explored while traveling through Northern Ireland.
Supported by our local experts Phil and James who have been involved in the filming from the first seasons we got the chance to see why the production company decided to use Northern Ireland as their main filming spot.
If you are interested in a Game of Thrones Tour in Northern Ireland make sure to checkout the related website of Ireland linked at the beginning where you'll find all information needed.

Hollins Mill Tunnel in Lynchburg, Virginia
On the west side of downtown Lynchburg, Virginia, Blackwater Creek has carved a steep gorge as it makes its way to the James River. In the mid-19th century several railroad lines were built to connect Lynchburg to the western frontier and to other major cities to the north and east. One of the lines passed through the Blackwater Creek area and a 450 foot long tunnel was constructed. The tunnel was built by African slaves and Irish immigrants by a combination of black powder blasting and hand digging. Two groups started on either end of the tunnel and met in the middle.
The tunnel is named for the nearby Hollins Mill site, a historic water powered mill located along Blackwater Creek. Today, the property is owned by the City of Lynchburg and a popular walking/biking path passes through the tunnel. Hollins Mill Road and McIvor Street both pass over the tunnel. Despite its location right in downtown Lynchburg, the area has a fantastic wild feel to it.

Blackwater Falls State Park
This video tours Blackwater Falls State Park located in Davis WV. The park has a variety of different recreational activities, but hiking is at the top of the list with many trails. Some of the trails lead into the adjoining Monongahela National Forest which also includes a large number of trails. Although all of the roads in the state park are paved, 4WD trails are available to explore in the adjoining Monongahela National Forest. Towards the end of the video roads to the nearby falls in the National Forest are shown.
