Connecticut is one of the most charming of all the American states, known for its rich history, its academia, its beautiful autumns, and its sunny summers by the beach.
With a rustic mix of coastal towns and rural havens, there is a lot to love about this area of New England.
Unlike many US states, Connecticut has access to the coast; calling all surfers, sand lovers and beach bums!
Being on the Atlantic Coast the weather can be harsh at times but when the sun shines over Connecticut it is glorious.
From New Haven to Mystic there is always something to discover in Connecticut.
Mystic, for example, is famous for its Seaport museum which houses ancient sailing ships, and the Mystic Aquarium too that houses the Beluga Whales.
Regardless of whether you end up in this part of the world, there are certain baseline requirements that your new homestead must meet.
From access to good public schools for those with young children and easy access to commuter routes for those who have to travel to work, there is an awful lot to think about.
Connecticut has some of the most desirable real estate in the country, some of the best classrooms for your kiddos, low crime rates, and even more still, particularly in a select few places.
Here are the 10 best places to live in Connecticut for 2018:

Danbury is located close to Chelmsford in Essex. It is around 54km from the centre of London. Around 6,500 people live there, many of whom may well commute to the capital for work.
The village was built on the site of a hill fort - being some 112m above sea level and offering views all around so that the early settlers would get advance warning of danger. It was later settled by the Romans and then the Dæningas tribe of Saxons. In the Domesday book of 1086 it is called Danengeberiam which means stronghold of the family or followers of a man called Dene. Dene however was out of luck because alongside many other Saxons, his lands were expropriated and King William I gave them to one of his followers Geoffrey de Mandeville who became the Earl of Essex.
In this film we can see the church of St John the Baptist which dates from the 13th century. There are three wooden effigies in the church which are from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. One is of William St Clere whose family were landowners in the region.
In 1779 the tomb of a knight was discovered to be perfectly preserved in what was described as pickle.
Free parking is available for those arriving by vehicle, either off the village green or close to the church.

CONNECTICUT - USA Travel Guide | Around The World
Connecticut is a small New England state, full of charm, rural beauty and several major cities. The State's top tourist attractions include Yale University, which maintains numerous world-class museums, Mystic Seaport, the restaurant and nightlife scene in downtown New Haven, The Maritime Aquarium, and two major Native American casinos.
Regions :
Fairfield County
Southwest Connecticut, near New York City. This area has many beaches and lighthouses, and many of the state's biggest cities, such as Bridgeport, Stamford, and Norwalk.
Litchfield Hills
Northwest Connecticut. This is the least densely populated area of the state. The region is known for it's colorful fall foliage. Most of the region is rural, but there are a few smaller cities, including Torrington, Danbury, and New Milford.
Greater New Haven
South central Connecticut. Home to Yale University, and numerous museums and theaters. It includes cities such as New Haven and Milford.
Connecticut River Valley
From North central Connecticut to the coast. Home to New England's 2nd most populous region, the Knowledge Corridor, featuring Connecticut's state capital Hartford and many historic sights.
Mystic-Eastern
New London, Tolland and Windham Counties in eastern Connecticut. A good place to get a view of the Long Island Sound, with beaches, and the famous Mystic Seaport/Aquarium. Has two of the biggest casinos in the world. Includes cities such as New London, Mystic, Uncasville, and Ledyard.
Cities :
Hartford - The state capital.
Bridgeport- The most populated city in the state.
Danbury - Also known as Hat City, Danbury is home to Western Connecticut State University, Candlewood Lake, and many good restaurants.
Greenwich - Ranked the 12th greatest place to live, Greenwich is a quaint town with a great view of Long Island.
Mystic - This is one of the most common places to visit, due to the historic seaport and aquarium.
New Haven - the state's creative capital and home to the greatest amount of pedestrian life, top-rated restaurants and tourist attractions
New London - Home to the coast guard acadamy, New London has a historic view of Long Island Sound.
Norwalk - home to trendy SoNo with an active night life and The Maritime Aquarium
Waterbury - This is a small urban community with lots to do. Look for the Union Station Clocktower that overlooks the city.
Connecticut is rich with history, nature, art and beauty. Truly something for everyone. While many people are drawn each year to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos, there is much more in this state. There are a number of beaches at the shore, state parks and forests throughout the state, and many smaller parks as well. Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam is an excellent family destination. So is the Essex Steam Train and River Boat Ride in Essex.
Crime
Although Connecticut is well known for its affluence, and is the third wealthiest state in America, there are sections in the state's largest cities (especially Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven) that have dangerous potential, especially at night. Common sense will more than likely keep you far from any signs of trouble in Connecticut, as the state is widely considered to be one of the safest in the country.
Ticks
Connecticut is the infamous birthplace of Lyme Disease. Make sure you know what to do if you are bitten. Tick season is usually from the spring to the fall.

WHY NOT VISIT SOUTHEND THIS SUMMER?
Southend offers all the traditional seaside pleasures along our seven miles of seafront, but you'll soon discover there's far more besides the seaside here.
We offer a range of great attractions for the whole family to enjoy, like the longest Pleasure Pier in the world, Adventure Island fun park, Sea-Life Adventure Aquarium and many more. History buffs can step back in time at some fascinating places like Southchurch Hall or Prittlewell Priory and take a ride on the shortest cliff lift in the UK. Our Town Centre offers a unique shopping experience and with over three hundred mouth-watering places to eat and a dazzling live music and nightlife scene, you really are spoilt for choice.
All of this is just an hour's train ride from London, and although we’re easy to reach by rail, road or air, with the development of the London Southend Airport, it gets harder and harder to leave!
COMING TO SOUTHEND?
There's lots going on in Southend this spring, so make sure you arrive relaxed and plan your journey to make the most out of your visit!
C2C and Abellio Greater Anglia run regular train services into Southend and with nine stations around the Borough it's the easiest way for you to get here and get around.
Car parking spaces along the seafront can fill up very quickly, but there are plenty of spaces to choose from in the town centre and it's no more than 10 minutes walk to Southend seafront and its attractions. Check out the How to Find Us page for a map of car parks available in the town.
Regular buses run all around the town, and Day Saver tickets are just £3.90 for adults and £2.60 for under 16s. Arriva’s number 9 bus passes the seafront, Prittlewell Priory and park, Thorpe Bay and the Airport.
