The Haunted Tower of London - Halloween 2012
The Haunted Tower of London - as part of the travel series by GeoBeats.
These days a throng of visitors descend upon the Tower of London however, many may not realize that the historic landmark has a darker past as well. Founded in 1066, it has served as a royal court, a prison, a mint, and an armory.
Given its long and varied history, it is no surprise that there have been numerous reports of haunted spirits at the Tower of London. What did not help was the fact that this is where thousands of people were imprisoned, brutally tortured, and executed .
Among those executed was Queen Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII.
According to history.com, out of all the ghosts seen across England, hers is one of the most frequently spotted. She was executed in 1536 on multiple charges which included witchcraft, treason, and adultery. Boleyn's ghost is said to haunt not only the Tower of London but also her home in Kent where she grew up.
BBC reports that Thomas a Becket was allegedly the first ghost to be seen at the fortress. He was the Archbishop of Canterbury during the rule of King Henry II and was brutally killed by his knights.
These are only two of the haunted spirits roaming the Tower complex. There are many others to discover.

The far-right party in France and its strategy
The far-right party in France is gaining ground. Why is the far-right party so popular in France and what is their strategy? How is the far-right party in France convincing the population? A documentary about the far-right party in France and its strategy.
Living like a God in France is a saying applicable to vacationers in France, but absolutely not to the French themselves: to them, life is nothing but worrisome. They are facing high unemployment rates, fear of new terror attacks and an important political division. What is left of pillars that are the basis of the French republic: Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité? And what does it mean actually, to be French, today? Dutch Parisian Wilfred de Bruijn uncovers an intriguing country, full of contradictions, far away from the cliches we all know.
More and more French people pin their hopes on the Front National. The far-right party preaches rigorous solutions to the persistent problems that keep France for years in its grip. Led by Marine Le Pen, the National Front has left behind the radical views of its founder (her father) and knows how to speak to people from all layers of society. The working class but also immigrants are partly voting for National Front. Will Marine Le Pen be the new French president in 2017? Wilfred de Bruijn unravels her strategy and finds out what and who she needs for her campaign.

Golden Autumn Leaves in Europe

During the months of autumn, many trees deciduous experiencing autumn leaf color before they fall. This change of color, which exists in many trees, is often called fall colors. A leaf is green because of the presence of a group of pigments called chlorophyll. When chlorophyll is abundant in the cells, as is the case during the period of plant growth, the green chlorophyll molecules dominates and masks the color of any pigment which may be present in the sheet. Thus, in summer the leaves are usually green.
At the end of the summer, the ribs that provide the transport of fluids to the inside and outside of the sheet are progressively clogged with a cork at the leaf base, where the petiole is precisely break. With the development of this layer of cork, the influx of water and minerals is reduced more rapidly. It was during this period that the level of chlorophyll begins to decrease.
The red and purple colors and their combinations which adorn the fall foliage, are from another family of pigments called anthocyanins. Unlike carotenoids, these pigments are generally not present in the sheet during the growth period. These molecules appear at the end of the summer. Indeed, while the sap continues to flow into the leaf, it is blocked by the cork and causes a forced accumulation of sugar in the leaf tissue.
Autumn is characterized by a gradual decrease in temperature. This season is marked by a particular time gradually becoming cloudy, rainy and windy, sometimes snowy in late season. But autumn can still give beautiful sunny and mild days, especially in early season. In the autumn, plants, shrubs and tree species discolor the leaves to yellow or golden, orange or red and brown. Because at low temperatures in the autumn the chlorophyll in the chloroplasts will be degraded present pigments visible. Xanthophylls make a yellow, carotenoids an orange, anthocyanins one red and the tannins a brown color visible.
In autumn, deciduous trees prepare to enter dormancy for the winter and make reservations to be used for the production of buds during the sap rising in spring. They toss their thin, flexible sheets that could freeze what would make them functional. The tree recovers useful substances in leaves, stores or recycled for reuse in the early spring. Leaves take the color of other pigments which were previously present but hidden by the presence of chlorophyll.
The dates when this phenomenon occurs, however, are extremely variable, depending on climatic differences of each place. In the state of the northern United States of Minnesota, for example, the Indian summer occurs at the beginning of October. In a region like San Francisco, where it is sometimes observed in October the hottest days, but with temperatures of summer and winter are close, the Indian summer, even though ' it is used, does not have the same meaning as in a region with cold winters and hot summers. The term is also used to refer metaphorically unexpected or late renewal.
The typical autumn weather conditions that triggers a beautiful Indian Summer, is an extensive anticyclone along the US East Coast by previous first night frosts. Warm air from the south and southwest of the United States flows to the north and makes for rising temperatures. In most years, such conditions for days or even weeks remains stable.
Not only domestic tourists but also many visitors from overseas to use this time for trekking, canoeing and hiking. It is therefore not surprising that the annual recurring event itself will be used promotionally effective by the tourism industry. Inns and hotels are fully booked on the weekends of Foliage and day trippers provide panoramic roads for traffic congestion. In the fall of the New England states have connected special Foliage-Info-phones, where you can get information on the current status and the progression of leaf discoloration.
Autumn usually begins after the equinox with the movement of the sun leaving the zone. Day length becomes increasingly shorter and the temperatures began to decline. This season was also marked by increased precipitation. Leaf fall in autumn is preceded by changes in the tissues or in the leaf base. In the always already present separation layer, which is made with weakly thickened walls of short cells, is produced by a low-frequency cell divisions brick-shaped cells.
