Royal Air Force Boxted or more simply RAF Boxted is a former Royal Air Force station located 4 miles north-northeast of Colchester, Essex England. Opened in 1943, it was used by the United States Army Air Forces . RAF Boxted has the distinction of having been the airfield for the two most successful USAAF fighter groups in air-to-air combat. After the war it was used by the Royal Air Force for jet aircraft testing. It was closed in 1947. Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property being used as agricultural fields. It also has a small grass private airstrip.

Gorleston-on-Sea, also known colloquially as Gorleston, is a settlement in Norfolk, England, on the south of Great Yarmouth. Situated at the mouth of the River Yare it was a port town at the time of the Domesday Book. The port then became a centre of fishing for herring along with salt pans used for the production of salt to preserve the fish. In Edwardian times the fishing industry rapidly declined and the town's role changed to that of a seaside resort.

Chatham Dockyard was a Royal Navy Dockyard located on the River Medway in Kent. Established in Chatham in the mid-16th century, the dockyard subsequently expanded into neighbouring Gillingham . It came into existence at the time when, following the Reformation, relations with the Catholic countries of Europe had worsened, leading to a requirement for additional defences. For 414 years Chatham Royal Dockyard provided over 500 ships for the Royal Navy, and was at the forefront of shipbuilding, industrial and architectural technology. At its height, it employed over 10,000 skilled artisans and covered 400 acres . Chatham dockyard closed in 1984, and 84 acres of the Georgian dockyard is now managed as a visitor attraction by the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust.

Hartest, West Suffolk

Hartest lies in West Suffolk, in an area known as `High Suffolk` at the north-western extremity of Babergh district, on the B1066 and midway between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury. Hartest Hill is said to be the steepest hill in Suffolk and anyone who has walked, run or cycled up it would certainly agree. The larger villages of Glemsford, Lavenham and Long Melford are all within a six mile radius. The adjoining hamlets of Boxted and Somerton are closely linked with Hartest. A small river flows through Hartest from its source in Somerton.

The Green is at the heart of the village. Close to the Green are the medieval parish church of All Saints, the primary school, the Hartest and Boxted Institute, the doctors' surgery and the Crown public house. A butcher's shop and the village garage also face the Green.

How To Say New Braunfels - SHORT VERSION

WALKING IN HERTFORDSHIRE | NUTHAMPSTEAD AND ANSTEY | FRENCH NATO EMERGENCY RATION PACK

A 4 mile solo walk starting and finishing at The Woodman Inn in the village of Nuthampstead (home to Hertfordshire's only WWII US Army Airforce Base).

The route visits the tiny village of Anstey, with it's church (containing lots of medieval graffiti and town lock up built into the lychgate) and motte and bailey castle.

I also had a look at a NATO Approved French Emergency Ration Pack.

When I returned to the pub for a cider, I was kindly given a tour of the pub and it's many black and white photos relating to the history of the village and the pub and the US Air Force base that was built at Scales park behind the pub. I gained a wealth of knowledge and information for this video, so thanks must go to Sandy, the landlady of the Woodman.

I am planning to return there soon with Candice for a look in the small museum next to the pub, to find out more about the airfield.
