Wine Tour Italy: Lugana on the Garda Lake
*Come on a Wine & Food Tour with BKWine* --- The wine region Lugana is on the Garda Lake in Veneto in northern Italy. It is not for from Verona, neighbouring Bardolino and Valpolicella. #Lugana wines are made from a grape variety locally called turbiana, previously trebbiano di lugana, also known as verdicchio. The wines are fresh and elegant. The best improve greatly with ageing.
This is the story of a wine touring visit to the Lugana DOC region, the vineyards, the wineries, the winemakers, enjoying its wines and food. It is a beautiful wine region with lush vineyards, a few hundred wine producers and some charming towns. Desenzano and Sirmione are lovely on the lake. Lugana was also the site for a 19th century battle, commemorated by the San Martino Tower (Torre di San Martino della Battaglia).

In October, 2018, my sister and I took an overnight trip from Florence, Italy to San Gimignano, Italy. It was a very interesting drive, to say the least, but we made it safely!
San Gimignano is stunning! If you ever have the chance to go, do it!
If you wonder if Italy is worth the time, money and sacrifice, IT IS!

Built in the Country-Liberty style popular in Italy for several decades from the late 19th century until the 1930s, the Villa Sorriso is a charming house overlooking Lake Como in the tiny lakeshore village of Pognana, just nine miles from Como itself. To reach the house, you must leave your car on the road above and walk about 200 yards down a path of steep cobblestone steps [not suitable for elderly guests] which continues on a further hundred yards to the lake.
Renowned for its luxuriant vegetation and mild climate, Lake Como and its environs need little introduction. The quaint town of Pognana [restaurants a 10 minute walk away] is sharply contrasted with the sophisticated elegance of Como, which can be conveniently reached in about half an hour on the local bus. Ideally situated for excursions to the surrounding area, Bellagio - also known as the pearl of the lake - is less than 20 miles distant. Considered by many to be the most beautiful town in all of Europe, its narrow cobbled streets, breathtaking views, impeccable homes and glorious villas make it a most enchanting spot to spend an unforgettable day. Other sights not-to-be-missed include the town of Cernobbio and Isola Comancina, Lake Como's only island where on the weekend after June 24th - St. John's Day is celebrated with a mass in the ruins of Basilica S. Eufemia, followed by a costumed procession and evening fireworks.

Il lago di Alserio è situato a 262 metri sul livello del mare in provincia di Como, Brianza, Lombardia, Italia. Ha una superficie di 1,23 km quadrati ed è compreso nei comuni di Erba, Albavilla, Alserio e Monguzzo, fa parte del Parco Regionale della Valle del Lambro e lungo la riva orientale è situata la Riserva Regionale del Lago di Alserio. Nella stessa zona si trovano i laghi di Como, di Montorfano, del Segrino, di Pusiano, di Annone, di Lecco e di Garlate. Alserio è un comune di 1157 abitanti, dove si trova uno dei rari accessi pubblici al lago, per la maggior parte seminascosto da canneti e alberi. Si avverte la mancanza almeno di una pista ciclopedonale che ne completi tutto il perimetro, soprattutto sulla sponda settentrionale.
