Toledo Bend Lake Country - Best Vacation Destination - Louisiana 2014

Welcome to Toledo Bend Lake, the home of the largest man-made lake in the Southern United States (186,000 acres) and some of the best fishing in Louisiana (and the country for that matter). So if you're a sportsman looking for a trophy fish or simply trying to plan a fun family getaway, look no further, Toledo Bend has it all. Chosen as the location for 2011, 2012 & 2014 Bassmaster Elite Series Tournament!
Village of Florien
Florien is a small town about ten miles south of Many. Three popular attractions are the Corley Log Cabin, the Dover House, and the Tree Chair.
The Corley cabin is a two-story house built of hand hewn long leaf pine logs. The house was built in 1859 and is believed to be the oldest residential structure in the area. Dover House was built soon after World War I and indicates the areas rich timber history. The Tree Chair is one of Floriens most unique landmarks a metal porch chair that was left leaning against a small oak tree and has become, over time, engulfed by the tree.
Celebrate Freestate Festival the 1st weekend in November. Among Festival events are log cutting contests, shown left, and so much more. The Louisiana State annual BBQ Cook-off is held in Florien.
Florien also is home to Boise, which employs 460 people in the Parish.

Strolling through four ecosystems on over a mile of boardwalks through Tickfaw State Park, visitors can experience the sights and sounds of a cypress/tupelo swamp, a bottomland hardwood forest, a mixed pine/hardwood forest and the Tickfaw River.
At Tickfaw State park, you can go night hiking or listen to the swamp nightlife from the porch of your vacation cabin. Check at the Nature Center for scheduled programs. While there, view the 800-gallon aquarium stocked with fish found in the Tickfaw River. There are also displays featuring the animals, history and culture of the area and of Louisiana. Be sure to watch the 8-minute introductory video about the history of the park area.
Bicycle, stroll, or skate the interconnecting park roadways. Rent a canoe and take a fun-filled trip on this unique section of the Tickfaw River. Visitors can bring their own canoes or rent ones at the entrance station. The Water Playground offers refreshing fun for those not quite adventurous enough to explore the swamps and sloughs.
