Places to see in ( Murcia - Spain ) Cartagena
Places to see in ( Murcia - Spain ) Cartagena
Cartagena is a port city and naval base in the Murcia region of southeast Spain. Founded by the Carthaginians around 220 B.C., the city boomed during the Roman period. Among its many Roman ruins are a 1st-century B.C. theater and Casa de la Fortuna, a villa with murals and mosaics. The Muralla Púnica (Punic Wall) interpretation center houses the remains of a 3rd-century B.C. defensive wall.
The port of Cartagena, in the Mediterranean's Costa Cálida, has been prized since Carthaginian times. Thanks to its strategic position on the Murcia coast, it has been inhabited by several cultures which have left their mark on its artistic heritage. A tour of the place and its museums will draw us into the history of a city closely tied to the sea.
This maritime enclave was already known to the Carthaginians and Romans, and its name today comes from the Latin, Cartago Nova. Cartagena was under Arab domination until Ferdinand III 'the Saint' reconquered it and incorporated it into the kingdom of Castile. Its port played a key role in the War of Succession and the Peninsular War.
The rich Carthaginian heritage spreads to the shores of its marina. The Muralla del Mar ('Sea Wall'), built by Charles III (18th century), delimits the old quarter. Overlooking the Mediterranean there is an element which is clearly connected with the sea: the prototype of the submarine by the inventor from Cartagena, Isaac Peral. In addition, the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology ARQUA (at Paseo Alfonso XII, 22) houses the National Centre for Underwater Archaeological Research. The findings on display reveal aspects of naval construction, trade and navigation since ancient times.
The entrance to the city centre is dominated by the Town Hall, a gem of modernist architecture dating from the early 20th century. The Old Cathedral is located on the Camino del Parque Torres (behind the Muralla del Mar wall). This is the oldest place of worship in CartagenaCartagena (13th century), and stands on the remains of a Roman theatre discovered in 1987. This construction dates from the first century A.D., and together with the theatre in Mérida, is one of the most important in Spain. The items found on this site can be seen in the Museum of the Roman Theatre.
Other examples of Roman splendour to be seen in the city are the archaeological site of El Molinete, the Morería Baja colonnade and the Byzantine Wall, which –despite its name– is also Roman. Particularly worth mentioning are the Augusteum and the Decumanus. The first contains the remains of the old forum, whose importance as a public building can be seen from the luxurious marble floors on display at the site. The second can be visited on the site adjoining the Roman Forum quarter, a key centre for visitors to the city, containing the different rooms in the city's Roman baths. The Casa Fortuna, built in the first century B.C. and belonging to a wealthy family, shows what daily life was like at the time of the Roman Empire.
The Torres park is the site of the Concepción castle. Standing atop a hill, it served as a fortress to Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs and Castilians, and now houses the History and Mediaeval Cartagena Visitor Centre. Indeed the city has always had numerous defensive military buildings. A good example is the Navidad Fortress, built in the mid-19th century and today the Visitor Centre for the Defensive Architecture of Cartagena and the Mediterranean. Also worth visiting is the Refuge – Civil War museum, a series of galleries which were used as protection from aerial attack throughout the conflict.

La Fortuna Costa Rica - Arenal Volcano Travel Guide | 90+ Countries With 3 Kids
Welcome to La Fortuna, a charming little town in Costa Rica!
This cute town was founded in the 1930s and it was originally called “El Burio.” However, locals decided to change the name of the city to La Fortuna, which means “fortune” in Spanish, because of the fertility of their lands and the vast variety of tourist attractions it offers.
It is located in San Carlos Canton, nearby the Arenal Volcano, which you can clearly see from the village. Its first eruption happened in 1968 when it destroyed the small town of Tabacón and spared La Fortuna at the same time. Even though this was Costa Rica’s most active volcano during the past few decades, and one of top 10 most active volcanos in the world, since 2010, Arenal has been dormant.
The Arenal Volcano National Park is definitely worth a visit, especially if you are into bird-watching. 850 different bird species can be found here, along with coatis, deer, jaguars, various snakes and white-faced capuchin monkeys.
If you are looking for accommodation in La Fortuna, Selina is our recommendation. This place is ideal for digital nomads. It is located in the center of the town, has a fantastic co-working office, fast internet and plenty of space where you can relax, like comfy hammocks, huts around the bonfire, movie room, library, and outdoor yoga studio. They also have a pool, bar and a restaurant that serves terrific food, but also a shared kitchen where you can cook for yourself.

Arenal Volcano + What's the Difference Between a Tourist and a Traveler?
We head to the Arenal Volcano National Park, where we walk through beautiful trails up to some of the lava fields from previous eruptions. And Jesse and I chat about how we feel about tourists (lol) and try to answer the question, is there a difference between a tourist and a traveler? (Hint: we had different answers.)

Here we will settle in one of the finest Hotels in the city the Hotel Grano de Oro.* The open air central courtyard restaurant within the hotel the is one of the finest in the city.
If you're in the need of a quick respite from the street crowds and tropical heat, head indoors to the Museo de Jade where you can admire centuries -old pre-Columbian jade carvings. Architecture and culture buffs alike shouldn't miss out on the Teatro Nacional, a stunning colonial construction that is the beating heart of San Jose's theater scene.
Day 2: Hot Rocks- La Fortuna
Just a few hour Tour Bus drive away on the base of the Volcano Arenal , the tourist friendly town of La Fortuna is a world away from the hustle and bustle of San Jose'. Here we will check into the Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort.*
Your first destination is obvious, namely the dark and brooding volcano in the distance Volcan Arenal. Ample daylight is conductive to long hikes through the surrounding forests, while nighttime allows for stunning views of exploding Lava showers!!
With a cocktail in hand we will head to one of the many therapeutic Hot Springs to relax as the steam rollings into the air. It won't take long to understand the Pura Vida way of life that all Costa Ricans live by.
Day 3: Monteverde & Santa Elena
After you towel-dry, take a boat across the majestic Laguna de Arenal to arrive in the peaceful retreat of Monteverde and Santa Elena. This fun town comprises fun cafe's, eclectic restaurants , attractive galleries and some of the country's best ice cream. Use the morning to take one of the zip-line canopy tours here.
Of course, the main attraction is the Monteverde Cloud Forrest, where you can search for the elusive quezal. Nearby Reserva Santa Elena and the Eternal Rainforest offer equally misty cloud-forest experiences.
Day 4+5: Los Sueños
From Monteverde we will travel south along the pacific coast to Los Sueños. On the way we will stop at the infamous Tárcoles River where we will get to see the largest gathering of wild 16ft+ Crocodiles you'll ever see in your life.

It also represents home to many looking for unsurpassed luxury. Los Sueños is undoubtedly the place to be to experience a truly unique and exclusive residential community with vibrant tropical surroundings.
Day 6+7: Manuel Antonio National Park & Quepos
In this Tico town the jungle meets the sea and you will realize again what the locals mean by PURA VIDA. This tranquil town along the coast you will see the rare three toed sloths descend from the tree tops and monkeys frolicking in troops along the palm-fringed coastline. If you want to get a monkeys-eye view, arrange a guided tour to the nearby Rainmaker Aerial Walkway, which lets you stroll from platform to platform across the treetop canopy.
Manuel Antonio offers a variety of options from a nice relaxing day at the beach to an adventurous day exploring the jungles. The Pacific Ocean in front of Manuel Antonio Park is also world renowned for its fishing. From November to April it is not uncommon for a typical angler to release multiple billfish in the over 100 pound range This place is always a favorite among visitors to Costa Rica
