Grabouw is a town located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Grabouw is located some 65 km south-east of Cape Town, over Sir Lowry's Pass from Somerset West, along the N2 highway. The town is the commercial centre for the vast Elgin Valley, the largest single export fruit producing area in Southern Africa, which extends between the Hottentots-Holland, Kogelberg, Groenland, and Houwhoek Mountains.The town's population at the 2001 census was listed as 21,593.

The Hottentots Holland Mountains are part of the Cape Fold Belt in the Western Cape, South Africa. The mountain range forms a barrier between the Cape Town metropolitan area and the southern Overberg coast. The range is primarily composed of Table Mountain Sandstone, and forms a large range between the Cape Town outlying suburbs of Somerset West and Gordon's Bay to the west, and the large Elgin valley to the east. Sir Lowry's Pass is the only crossing, in the form of the N2 motorway. The Steenbras Dam, one of Cape Town's main supply dams, is located in the southern section of the range. This is due to the abundant rainfall experienced in the uplands, located in the Elgin Valley around the town of Grabouw on the eastern slopes. Oude Molen Distillery is a South African distiller of brandies, based in the Elgin Valley in the Grabouw region of the Western Cape province. The distillery is a tribute to the legacy of René Santhagens, acknowledged as the father of South African brandy. South African brandies are, by law, made using a double-distillation process in copper pot stills followed by aging in oak barrels for a minimum of three years, as is also mandatory in Cognac.It is owned by the Edward Snell Company, with Dave Acker as the cellarmaster at Oude Molen.

Cape Town to the Garden Route - Exploring the Overberg

Episode 31: The N2 freeway that runs from Cape Town towards the Garden Route must be one of the most frequently traveled tourist routes in South Africa. While the freeway may be the quickest way to get from one destination to the other, Bevan and I are not well-known to choose speed over scenery! We decided to take things a little slower and turn our drive out of Cape Town into a coastal meander along the R43.
