The municipality has a population of 4,519 and covers an area of 1,066.42 square kilometres of which 199.25 km2 is water. The population density is 5.21 inhabitants per square kilometre . Neighbouring municipalities: Hartola, Hirvensalmi, Jyväskylä, Kangasniemi, Luhanka, Pertunmaa and Toivakka. Municipality of Leivonmäki was consolidated with Joutsa on January 1, 2008. The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Architects Kimmo Lintula and Hannu Tikka designed the hall, which is made out of glulam. The acoustics were engineered by Artec Consultants, New York. Its acoustics are one of its strongest points, while the architecture follows the Scandinavian tradition of sophisticated design. The concert hall has a capacity of 1,250 seats. The Sibelius Hall is home to the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.

    Tykkimäki is an amusement park in Kouvola, Finland. It has 30 different rides, along with some restaurants and kiosks. A camping site and Lake Käyrälampi are located near Tykkimäki. Many of Tykkimäki's rides are preowned rides bought from other parks, most often from Linnanmäki or Särkänniemi. The latest ride relocation happened in 2007, when Tykkimäki opened the Kouvola-pyörä Ferris wheel, which had been at Linnanmäki over 40 years.
