Stonehenge AotearoaCarterton Stonehenge Aotearoa, built by members of The Phoenix Astronomy Society near Carterton, New Zealand, is a modern adaptation of the Stonehenge ruins on the Salisbury Plain of England. The henge, built over 2 years and opened on 12 February 2005 by Nobel Laureate Professor Alan MacDiarmid, contains 24 pillars and is 30 metres in diameter and about 4 metres high. The pillars are capped with lintels, completing the circle, and a 5 metres -tall obelisk marks the center of the henge. The weather was perfect on day 25 :) In the morning, we talked about camping in New Zealand with Geoff from the Tourism Industry Association. After lunch in Wellington we drove to Hawke's Bay and had dinner and watched the sunset on the top of Te Mata Peak.
