Driving Downtown - Key West 4K - Florida USA
Driving Downtown - Key West Florida USA - Episode 32.
Starting Point: Duval Street - .
Key West is a city in and the county seat of Monroe County, Florida, United States. The city encompasses the island of Key West, the part of Stock Island north of U.S. 1 (the Overseas Highway) (east), Sigsbee Park (north, originally known as Dredgers Key), Fleming Key (north), and Sunset Key (west, originally known as Tank Island). Both Fleming Key and Sigsbee Park are part of Naval Air Station Key West and are inaccessible by civilians. Key West is the county seat of Monroe County.[3] Key West is the southernmost city in the Continental United States. It also contains the southern terminus of U.S. 1, State Road A1A, the East Coast Greenway and, before 1935, the Florida East Coast Railway.
Key West is 129 miles (208 km) southwest (229.9 degrees) of Miami, Florida,[4] (about 160 miles (260 km) by car) and 106 miles (171 km) north-northeast (21.2 degrees) of Havana, Cuba.[5] Cuba, at its closest point, is 94 statute miles (151 km) south.[6] Key West is a seaport destination for many passenger cruise ships.[7] The Key West International Airport provides airline service. Hotels and guest houses are available for lodging. Naval Air Station Key West is an important year round training site for naval aviation due to the superb weather conditions. It is also a reason the city was chosen as the Winter White House of President Harry S. Truman. The central business district primarily comprises Duval Street, and includes much of the northwest corner of the island along Whitehead, Simonton, Front, Greene, Caroline, and Eaton Streets and Truman Avenue. The official city motto is One Human Family.
Points of interest
One of the biggest attractions on the island is a concrete replica of a buoy at the corner of South and Whitehead Streets that claims to be the southernmost point in the contiguous United States (see Extreme Points). Erected in 1983, the famous brightly painted and labeled SOUTHERNMOST POINT CONTINENTAL U.S.A., it is one of the most visited and photographed attractions in Key West.[44]
However, the marker is not located at the southernmost point in the continental United States, as discussed below:
Whitehead Spit, on the Truman Annex property just west of the buoy, is the true southernmost point, but it has no marker since it is U.S. Navy land and cannot be entered by civilian tourists.
The private yards directly to the east of the buoy and the beach areas of Truman Annex and Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park also lie farther south than the buoy.
The farthest-south location that the public can visit is the seaward end of the White Street Pier.
Florida's, and by extension the continental United States', true physically southernmost point is Ballast Key, a private island owned by David W. Wolkowsky, a wealthy developer, about 10 miles (16 km) west of Key West. Although Ballast Key is located within both the Key West National Wildlife Refuge and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, signs on the island strictly prohibit unauthorized visitors.
The claim 90 Miles to Cuba on the monument is close to correct, Cuba at its closest point has been measured at 94 statute miles (151 km) from Key West.
The original Key West settlement on the western part of the island is called Old Town and comprises the Key West Historic District. It includes the major tourist destinations of the island, including Mallory Square, Duval Street, the Truman Annex and Fort Zachary Taylor. It is where are found the classic bungalows and guest mansions.

509-La Verkin UT, UN Free Zone and Pah Tempe Hot Springs
La Verkin is a city in Washington County, Utah.
The population of La Verkin is around 5000, and it’s in walking distance of Hurricane, and the two cities have historically had close ties.
Theories about the origin of the city's name suggest that it may be a corruption of the Spanish la virgen, after the nearby Virgin River,] or possibly an error in the transcription of the term beaver skin.
La Verkin contains the southernmost highway junction to Zion National Park, at the intersection of Utah SR-9.
There's also a noted pony-truss style bridge, built in 1908, that rises some 200 feet over the river, spanning over 75 feet in length.
The city made national headlines in 2001 when the City Council passed an ordinance declaring La Verkin a United Nations-free zone.
La Verkin is the 'mouse that roared,' only to be crushed by the [Utah] state attorney general, the threatening communist ACLU group, the world government U.N., and the Utah media.
The night of July 4, 2001 was surreal in the tiny town of La Verkin, Utah.
On that night, specifically chosen for its patriotic symbolism, the Mayor and City Council met in special session to address what it saw as an urgent constitutional and international crisis.
They hoped to save the citizens of their town from a pernicious evil that the Congress, President, and Supreme Court of the United States seemed to ignore: the United Nations' designs to usurp the U.S.'s national sovereignty.
Kind of the opposite, where the state of California declaring itself a sanctuary state and as such proclaiming the state will not follow US Federal immigration laws.
In either case, neither has the best interest of our country
The La Verkin City Council decided to act by passing a U.N.-free zone ordinance.
Not surprisingly, the ordinance sparked sharp criticism.
Almost two weeks later the La Verkin Mayor said, We've been pushed far enough, and long enough. We're tired of marching to [the U.N.] agenda. . . .
Maybe La Verkin is the crucible to get the rest of the cities and the national government to listen.
Newspaper accounts cite a Councilman as saying, after displaying a map of the United States color-coded with areas purportedly under U.N. control, You may only have two years of freedom in this country, and I'm saying we do not want that to happen.'
The debate continued until July 24, 2001, when, by a thin 3-2 margin, the City Council voted in favor of a revised, and significantly watered down, U.N.- free zone ordinance.
At the height of the tempest, La Verkin's reputation actually inspired curious, passing tourists to inquire at City Hall about buying anti-U.N. merchandise.
Six months later, the storm seemed to have passed as quickly as it came.
Although La Verkin was the first local government to adopt a U.N.- free zone ordinance, it has not been the last.
In 2001, the City Council of Bingham, New Mexico adopted an ordinance similar in style and scope to the one in La Verkin.
In 2003, voters in Grant County, Oregon, approved a similar U.N.-free zone ordinance.
In addition, a local citizen's group has unsuccessfully lobbied Lincoln County in Montana to adopt a comparable ordinance.
Thus, although hardly a legislative stampede, the anti-U.N. movement is not isolated to La Verkin.

Horseshoe Bend
---------------------------
Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. Horseshoe Bend is located 5 miles (8.0 km) downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Page. It is accessible via hiking a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) round trip from U.S. Route 89, but an access road also reaches the geological structure, as it is part of a state park. Horseshoe Bend can be viewed from the steep cliff above. The overlook is 4,200 feet (1,300 m) above sea level, and the Colorado River is at 3,200 feet (980 m) above sea level, making it a 1,000-foot (300 m) drop.
How to get here - From Page, AZ drive south on Highway 89 to between mileposts 544 & 545. Look for the exit lane and prominent dirt road on the west side of the road which you can drive a short distance on to the parking area.
Montezuma Castle National Monument
-----------------------------------------------------
Montezuma Castle National Monument protects a set of well-preserved dwellings located in Camp Verde, Arizona which were built and used by the Sinagua people, a pre-Columbian culture closely related to the Hohokam and other indigenous peoples of the southwestern United States, between approximately 1100 and 1425 AD. The main structure comprises five stories and twenty rooms, and was built over the course of three centuries.
Neither part of the monument's name is correct. When European-Americans first observed the ruins in the 1860s, by then long-abandoned, they named them for the famous Aztec emperor Montezuma in the mistaken belief that he had been connected to their construction. In fact, the dwelling was abandoned more than 40 years before Montezuma was born, and was not a castle in the traditional sense, but instead functioned more like a prehistoric high rise apartment complex, as many families lived there. Several Hopi clans and Yavapai communities trace their ancestries to early immigrants from the Montezuma Castle/Beaver Creek area. Clan members periodically return to these ancestral homes for religious ceremonies.
Little Hollywood Museum Kanab
----------------------------------------------------
Kanab made its screen debut in 1924 when Tom Mix filmed Deadwood Coach along with his co-star, Tony The Wonder Horse. Since then over a hundred Hollywood productions have taken advantage of the diverse and spectacular landscapes that make Southern Utah one of the most stunning places on Earth. Credit for interest in Southern Utah as a Hollywood back lot goes to the Parry Brothers who leveraged their guiding business at Zion National Park into a virtual Hollywood production machine by luring influential filmmakers to the area. Cecile B DeMille raised the profile of this location when he made Union Pacific here. John Ford's Drums Along the Mohawk proved that Kane County could stand in not only for iconic western landscapes but also as rugged eastern forest land.

Morning Walk - Lake Michigan & Grant Park / Millennium Park – Chicago Illinois
Grant Park is a large urban park (319 acres or 1.29 km²) in the Loop community area of Chicago. Located in Chicago's central business district, the park's most notable features are Millennium Park, Buckingham Fountain, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum Campus. Originally known as Lake Park, and dating from the city's founding, it was renamed in 1901 to honor Ulysses S. Grant. The park's area has been expanded several times through land reclamation, and was the focus of several disputes in the late 1800s and early 1900s over open space use. It is bordered on the north by Randolph Street, on the south by Roosevelt Road and McFetridge Drive, on the west by Michigan Avenue and on the east by Lake Michigan. The park contains performance venues, gardens, art work, sporting, and harbor facilities. It hosts public gatherings, and several large annual events.
The park is often called Chicago's front yard. It is governed by the Chicago Park District.
Millennium Park is a public park located in the Loop community area of Chicago in Illinois, US, and originally intended to celebrate the millennium. It is a prominent civic center near the city's Lake Michigan shoreline that covers a 24.5-acre (99,000 m2) section of northwestern Grant Park. The area was previously occupied by parkland, Illinois Central rail yards, and parking lots.[1] The park, which is bounded by Michigan Avenue, Randolph Street, Columbus Drive and East Monroe Drive, features a variety of public art. As of 2009, Millennium Park trailed only Navy Pier as a Chicago tourist attraction.[2]
Planning of the park began in October 1997. Construction began in October 1998, and Millennium Park was opened in a ceremony on July 16, 2004, four years behind schedule. The three-day opening celebrations were attended by some 300,000 people and included an inaugural concert by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus. The park has received awards for its accessibility and green design.[3] Millennium Park has free admission,[4] and features the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate, the Crown Fountain, the Lurie Garden, and various other attractions. The park is connected by the BP Pedestrian Bridge and the Nichols Bridgeway to other parts of Grant Park. Because the park sits atop a parking garage and the commuter rail Millennium Station, it is considered the world's largest rooftop garden.
Some observers consider Millennium Park to be the city's most important project since the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.[4][5] It far exceeded its originally proposed budget of $150 million. The final cost of $475 million was borne by Chicago taxpayers and private donors. The city paid $270 million; private donors paid the rest,[6] and assumed roughly half of the financial responsibility for the cost overruns.[7] The construction delays and cost overruns were attributed to poor planning, many design changes, and cronyism. Many critics have praised the completed park.
Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and the only one located entirely within the United States. The other four Great Lakes are shared by the U.S. and Canada. It is the second-largest of the Great Lakes by volume[1] and the third-largest by surface area, after Lake Superior and Lake Huron (and is slightly smaller than the U.S. state of West Virginia). To the east, its basin is conjoined with that of Lake Huron through the wide Straits of Mackinac, giving it the same surface elevation as its easterly counterpart; the two are technically a single lake.[4] Lake Michigan is shared, from west to east, by the U.S. states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. The word Michigan originally referred to the lake itself, and is believed to come from the Ojibwa word mishigami meaning great water.[5] Lake Michigan is also the only one of the five Great Lakes not to share a shoreline with the Canadian province of Ontario, the only province in Canada that borders the Great Lakes.
