Amstrad CPC Story | Nostalgia Nerd
The Amstrad CPC Story begins way back in 1947, with the birth of Alan Michael Sugar. We then meander through Alan Sugar's early working career, the start of his trading business, AMS Trading, and then the formation of Amstrad. From there, between stereos and CB radios we land with the fabulous Amstrad CPC464 in 1984. A machine often cast aside as an also ran, but in reality, anything but. Selling some 2 million machines, it comes in third place behind the Sinclair Spectrum and Commodore 64, but dominated in parts of Europe. So, let us delve in to the Amstrad and Amstrad CPC story concentrating mainly on the early days of Amstrad and the launch of the Amstrad CPC464 Home Computer...

UK: School of Sanctuary’ opens its doors to refugee children
In September 2017, Widden Primary School in Gloucester was awarded the status of School of Sanctuary.
The award was handed out by the “City of Sanctuary” grassroots movement, which began in 2005 in Sheffield, England. Fostering relationships between local people and those seeking refuge in Britain, the movement is a loose grouping of organisations committed to including refugees in their activities, and which adhere to its inclusiveness aims. The idea is to recognise cities, schools and groups that offer a warm welcome to people in need of safety.
There are about 50 schools with a “School of Sanctuary” status, according to the City of Sanctuary movement, which hails Widden as a “beacon of multicultural diversity”. There are up to 40 languages spoken at the school, where seven refugee families, including 12 children, are supported through tailored language support classes, inclusive curricula and activities.

--Video 1 of 6: Edward Miall (1809-1881) and the walk from Stoke Newington Common to Whitefriars Street.
For three years [c. 1841-1844], two or three days weekly, he [Edward Miall] walked to and from Stoke Newington Common to his office in Whitefriars Street. (See: Arthur Miall, 'Life of Edward Miall', 1884, page 56).
--As Edward Miall once instructed in a letter to his eldest daughter:
Get your map and follow me.--
Before setting off on my walk, I begin facing no. 13 Sanford Place (now 9 Sanford Terrace, N16) on 'Stoke Newington Common' where Edward Miall lived from around 1841 to 1844. See: --At 2:01 I look at the upper storeys at the rear of 13 Sanford Place before heading off from its south side to Stoke Newington High Street, as it is now named. (See:
