Gran Canaria to Tenerife and Fuerteventura, the third largest of the Canary Islands. The nearly circular. The capital is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria is located in the area of influence of the trade winds, the zoom press for the northern hemisphere of the Northeast. They are forced to the island's mountains to rise and take care of their northern slopes for some heavy rainfall, mostly in the form of fog. The island is so climatically divided into two roughly in the wetter north and the drier south. Correspondingly, different vegetation zones have formed. In the north of nature prevail laurel forests, struck during the southern semi-desert vegetation. There dominate the drought adapted spurge. The famous Canary Spurge is due to their cactus-like appearance. Spreads are also high shrub, woody and dickblättrige Echium species. Imports from America prickly pears have spread there as well. The laurel forests are formed by Canary laurel (Laurus novocanariensis) and heather. Here comes the Canary Bellflower, the characteristic species of the Canary Islands, off naturally.
Tourist centers are located in the south of the island with the places Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés, San Agustín

The Puerto de la Luz is the commercial and tourist port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ( Spain ), it is one of the most important in the whole Spain. The Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, also known as Puerto de la Luz and Puerto de la Luz y de las Palmas, is a commercial fishing port, passenger and sports city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. For five centuries, the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (The Port Light) is the traditional base of scale and supply ships on their way through the Atlantic Medio. Traditional stopover en route cruise, passing through it each year more than one million passengers between tourists and users of domestic routes between islands and the mainland.
In 2011 he was awarded the prestigious international journal Dream World Cruise Destinations with the prize to the port with the best connection, offers transportation, hotel, baggage handling and world tourism, consolidating its position as one of the best destinations Tourist of this type. In 2013 the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria the port was placed 4th nationally (behind the ports of Algeciras, Barcelona and Valencia), 18th in Europe and 98th in the world in container traffic, according to British magazine Cargo System.
The port of Las Palmas walks in continuous growth due to its strategic location, as many ships from America or the rest of Europe park in Gran Canaria to continue its path. The springs are the official name of Puerto de Las Palmas, assigned by the State Ports, a public body under the Ministry of Development of Spain, responsible for establishing official names of the ports of general interest of the State. The initial port was Port of Las Palmas, because the old dock in Las Palmas, located in present Park of San Telmo, mouth of the Barranco de Mata. Later in the nineteenth century was built the port of La Luz (The Light Port) in the Bay of Isleta, and lived for a while.
The Competent Authority for Ports was Meeting of Works of the Port of La Luz and Las Palmas (referring to the two ports of the city) until the 70s of the twentieth century the seafront was built and the old port of Las Palmas was buried, leaving only the Puerto de La Luz (The Port Light), who years later would change its official name to the Port of Las Palmas. In the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, south of the port of Las Palmas, a third port, a small fishing pier in the seaside neighborhood of San Cristobal, the Port of San Cristobal. However it is not integrated into the network of ports of general interest of the State, to be managed directly by the Government of the Canary Islands.
The Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, part of the network of existing ports of general interest in Spain, managed by the Port Authority of Las Palmas, is located on the island of Gran Canaria, part of the archipelago of the Canary Islands, 210 kilometers from the African coast and 1,250 of Europe.
It is located in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, northeast of the island of Gran Canaria, main economic and commercial center of the island. Its strategic location, excellent conditions of their bay and the quality of its services make the Puerto de La Luz a maritime crossroads between Europe, Africa and America. So much so that from the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria can be reached about 380 ports worldwide thanks to some thirty shipping lines passenger and cargo that will connect them. The history of the Port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is true that began with the beginning of the conquest of the island, which occurred on June 24.
Also, Gran Canaria has an important historical, cultural and artistic heritage, most notably the Museo Casa de Colón, the most visited museum in the Canaries, which commemorates Admiral over the island before his first trip Discovery America, or the Las Palmas Cathedral, considered the most important monument of the Canarian architecture.
