Puyo is the capital of the Pastaza province, located in the Oriente region of Ecuador. Puyo is located at an altitude of approximately 950 meter above sea level. This city is close to the Puyo River, a tributary of the Pastaza River, which eventually leads into the Amazon River. True to its name, derived from the Kichwa word for cloudy, the local climate is a wet one and the weather is often overcast.
Puyo is one of the fast growing cities in the Amazon region of Ecuador.
Puyo is located 4h30 from #Quito , 7h from #Guayaquil & 6h from #Cuenca.

Baños de Agua Santa Ecuador
Baños de Agua Santa is located in a valley with waterfalls and hot springs next to the Tungurahua volcano with a height of 5,016 meters, only 180 km from Quito and 35 km from Ambato. The city is surrounded by beautiful rivers including the spectacular Rio Pastaza that serves as the setting for adventure sports.

El Pailon del Diablo waterfall

Manto de la Novia waterfall
In the Manto de la Novia will find the harmonious sound of nature, lush vegetation and crystal clear water that gives this beautiful waterfall. Baños, también conocida como Baños de Agua Santa, es una ciudad ecuatoriana; cabecera cantonal del Cantón Baños, así como la segunda urbe más grande y poblada de la Provincia de Tungurahua. Se localiza al centro de la Región interandina del Ecuador, muy próxima al centro geométrico del territorio ecuatoriano; en los flancos externos de la cordillera oriental de los Andes, entre el río Pastaza, el río Bascún y las faldas del volcán Tungurahua, a una altitud de 1820 msnm y con un clima lluvioso tropical de 19°C en promedio.
Es un centro turístico de importancia del país, también se le conoce como: El Pedacito de Cielo, La Puerta de El Dorado o Ciudad del Volcán. En el censo de 2010 tenía una población de 12.995 habitantes, lo que la convierte en la septuagésima cuarta ciudad más poblada del país. Forma parte del área metropolitana de Ambato, pues su actividad económica, social y comercial está fuertemente ligada a Ambato, siendo ciudad dormitorio para miles de trabajadores que se trasladan a aquella urbe por vía terrestre diariamente. El conglomerado alberga a 489.537 habitantes, y ocupa la quinta posición entre las conurbaciones del Ecuador.
Sus orígenes datan de la época colonial, pero es a mediados del siglo XX, debido a su ubicación geográfica y sus recursos turísticos, cuando presenta un acelerado crecimiento demográfico hasta establecer un poblado urbano; que sería posteriormente, uno de los principales núcleos urbanos de la provincia. Es uno de los más importantes centros administrativos, económicos, financieros y comerciales de Tungurahua. La actividad económica más importante del cantón es el turismo receptivo. La WWF le dio el nominativo a Baños de Un Regalo para la Tierra.

Day7 (Alcaldia, Baños de Agua Santa) - City Hall visit 10 Day Ecuador & Amazon Adventure (May 2014)
Wednesday afternoon (May 28, 2014), our Gate1 tour bus stopped in the beautiful town of Baños de Agua Santa for a little while.
After the Tagua demonstration at El Cade shop, we decided to tour the City Hall/ Town Hall before visiting the local cathedral.
Baños de Agua Santa, commonly referred to as Baños, is a city in eastern Tungurahua Province, in central Ecuador.
It is known as the Gateway to the Amazon, as it is located on the Pastaza River in the Amazon River basin, and has a newly paved road to Puyo.
The city is also a Roman Catholic religious center, as some Catholic believers say that the Virgin Mary appeared nearby a waterfall. So a sculpture of the virgin, called Virgen de Agua Santa, was placed inside the cathedral.
The history of this town is intimately linked with the highly active Tungurahua volcano.
The city itself boasts a beautiful main central park across from the cathedral.
Nearby waterfalls include Virgen de Agua Santa, Inés María, Agoyán, El Manto de la Novia, Pailón del Diablo and Machay.

Un pequeño río nos habla - A small river talks to us
Vídeo montaje elaborado a partir de las grabaciones realizadas en Barranco Blanco los pasados días 21 de junio y 4 de julio. Situado en las afueras de Coín (Málaga), a unos 7 km del centro del pueblo, podemos encontrar este paraje natural de singular belleza en el que crece una vegetación exuberante al paso del río Alaminos originando una serie de cascadas y pozas de aguas cristalinas que sorprenderán a cualquiera que se adentre en ellas.
Sin embargo, no todo es idílico y ello se debe a la presencia del hombre, siendo bastante frecuentado sobre todo en los meses de verano. Lo más sorprendente es que el área se encuentre aún en un importante estado de abandono: es posible encontrar basura y otros restos a lo largo de su recorrido así como otros daños importantes (pintadas en piedras, arañazos en rocas e incluso basura en el fondo de las pozas). Este vídeo pretende concienciar sobre la importancia de la preservación de lugares como éste. Todas las imágenes fueron obtenidas respetando el medio ambiente. Hagamos un esfuerzo entre todos para mantenerlo y conservarlo.

This video has been filmed in Barranco Blanco on June 21 and July 4 this year. Just located on the outskirts of Coin town (in the province of Malaga), about 7 km from the town centre, we can find this unique natural landscape where exuberant vegetation grows while the Alaminos river runs throught it with a series of waterfalls and pools of crystalline water that will surprise anyone entering in it.
However,the global picture is certainly not idyllic. What is most surprising is that the area is still in a notable state of abandon: it's also possible to find trash and other waste in many places along the route and significant damage (scribbling on stone, rocks scratched and also waste in the deep waters). We must all cultivate awareness of preservation of places like this. All the scenes were recorded with due respect for the environment. Let us make an effort to keep and preserve it.

Day4 (on the road) - talking about Otavaleños on 10 Day Ecuador & Amazon Adventure (May 2014)
Sunday morning (May 25, 2014), at 8:30AM, we were BACK ON THE ROAD aboard the Gate1 tour bus, leaving behind the fantastic lake lodge Cabañas del Lago.
Here you can hear and see our Ecuadorian tour guide, MARCO Clavijo, talking about the famous Otavaleños and their traditional clothing (as our next stop - almost 30 min ride - will be the Artisan/Crafts Market in Otavalo).
In many jobs where a uniform is usually worn, such as in hotels, the Otavaleños are permitted to wear their traditional costume instead. It is said that if an Otavaleño ceases to wear their traditional clothing, they lose rights in the community.
Traditional dress for the Otavaleña WOMEN consists of a long dark skirt with pale underskirt, fastened with a woven belt, and an embroidered white blouse with full, flared lacy sleeves.
The women also wear a cloth binding around their hair. Long hair is tied back with a 3 cm band of woven multicolored material, often matching the band which is wound several times round their waists.
The skirts are actually two separate pieces of cloth with no tailoring at all, simply wrapped around and held in place by the belt. If you look closely you may see tiny, detailed embroidery along the selvedge of the cloth.
The wide belts are woven in detailed and intricate designs with traditional weaving techniques which have been used in Otavalo for centuries.
The traditional white blouses for the women of Otavalo have broad, intricately-embroidered collars and sleeves. Traditionally all the embroidery would be done by hand, though these days some is done by machine.
A hand-embroidered traditional blouse may take a month of work.
The many strings of tiny gold bead necklaces represent grains of maize and signify the woman's importance in the Otavalo community: more beads = higher status in their community.
The beads are not real gold (at least, not since the time of the Conquistadores, who stole huge amounts of gold to take back to Spain). Nowadays, the beads are apparently imported from the Czech Republic (or Venezuela) and then gold plated in Ecuador, so they contain no more than about 8 or 9% gold.
The red bead bracelets are traditionally believed to ward off evil spirits.
Both men and women wear open sandals called ALPARGATA, made from cactus fiber, although wellington boots are also common now.
One Otavaleña admitted that their feet can get chilly in the traditional sandals, to the extent that elderly ladies sometimes shuffle out in warm, sensible slippers instead.
The traditional Otavalo costume of the MEN is white, cropped-length trousers with a dark blue poncho and felt hat.
They wear their long hair braided, just as in the traditional woven pictures.
Otavaleño men also wear alpargata (cactus fiber sandals), though these are usually white.
Fewer men than women seem to wear the traditional costume, allegedly because the keeping the white trousers immaculately clean is such a challenge that they are usually saved for special occasions only.
