In this video we’re showing you around Vienna (Wien). After spending a few days in Tirol, the capital was our next stop and what a change of scenery. We swapped snow-capped mountains for some of the most elegant streets of Europe in Wien, Österreich.
Vienna is a city of imperial palaces, countless museums and grand coffee houses, and it was a feast for the eyes.
We can already tell you that one week was not enough to see it all, but in this video we’ll do our best to show you some of Vienna’s highlights!

It's 6:30 in the Morning: Welcome to Civitavecchia, the Springboard to Rome
Massive cruise ships keep a graceful rhythm at sea: sailing through the night, docking in major ports at dawn, and letting their passengers off to frolic on land until about 6:00 p.m. and return to enjoy evenings on their floating home at sea. This video shows the view from my little deck as we arrived in Civitavecchia, the port of Rome. Rather than going into Rome, I spent today nailing down all the details of this port and figuring out good travel strategies. Rome is an important cruise port because many cruises start or end here, and many travelers just get a single day in the Eternal City during their cruise.
As is the case in so many great ports, at first it seems complicated to get into the main city (an hour away by train), but actually, it's really easy. From the huge dockyard in Civitavecchia, you take a free shuttle bus from your ship to the cute little gateway to the port, walk ten minutes to the Civitavecchia train station, and then catch the train (1-hour ride, 2/hour, €4 ticket) into Rome. My challenge in fine-tuning this book is to find the smartest plan (for example, a €9 day pass covers your round-trip train ticket into Rome — plus all your bus, tram, and Metro travel within the city). Once you reach Rome, get off at the Ostiense train station and then hop on the subway; in two stops, you'll land on the Colosseum's front door. After you do some frantic sightseeing for the day, walk from St. Peter's Basilica to Rome's San Pietro train station and catch your train back to Civitavecchia. Do it once and it's a snap. My hope is that with my guidebook, it can be a snap for you on your very first time.

L'imponente complesso fu eretto come residenza estiva dei Papi intorno al 1600 sul più alto colle di Roma, il quirinale appunto. Solo in un secondo momento fu costruito il lato destro del Palazzo per una lunghezza totale di circa mt 360 (la cosiddetta Manica lunga), ed infine vennero erette delle mura sul perimetro dei giardini a completamento della attuale struttura.
Con la fine del potere temporale dei Papi, il palazzo dal 1870 divenne residenza dei Savoia re d'Italia ed infine del Presidente della Repubblica a partire dal 1946.
L'enorme complesso ha un cortile interno, uno scalone d'onore, numerose sale, sfarzosi saloni, appartamenti, salottini, studi, due grandi cappelle affrescate ed infine spaziosi giardini.
Gli interni ospitano capolavori di numerosi artisti fra cui Botticelli, Lorenzo Lotto, Melozzo da Forlì, Claude Lorrain, Guido Reni, Pietro da Cortona, Carracci.
Per non parlare degli arredi, dei pregiati lavori artigianali, dei numerosi arazzi di inestimabile valore ed infine di una consistente serie di carrozze d'epoca.

John Dory is a very unusual looking, flat, bony fish with long spines on its dorsal fin. It lives throughout the tropical and temperate latitudes of the world oceans (except in the eastern Pacific and western Atlantic oceans.) Its discus-shaped body appears broad from the side but when viewed head-on it appears very thin, giving the John Dory the ability to confuse predators—larger bony fish and sharks—simply by turning to the side.
Further contributing to John Dory's odd appearance are the large black dots on its sides, which are thought to be a form of misdirection—predators take the dots for eyes, and attack its meaty flank instead of its real eyes, giving the Dory an opportunity to escape.
The false eyes led the John Dory to be referred to sometimes as the St. Peter fish (or versions of that in Italian or French) because of a legend that the black spot on its side represents St. Peter's fingerprints. The name may also refer to the French dorée, or gilded.
While scarce in the United States, John Dory is popular in the U.K. as well as in Australia and New Zealand because it's indigenous to the North Atlantic and also found in the cooler parts of the South Pacific. It's comparable to turbot, sole, and brill.
What Does John Dory Fish Taste Like?
John Dory is a firm-textured fish with moist, fine flakes and a mild, sweet flavor. It is very low in fat yet has a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth feel.

There is a misconception that John Dory and tilapia are the same fish, but this is completely inaccurate. Apart from both being white fish, the two have little else in common.

While it's considered a delicacy and can command a high price in fine-dining restaurants, the John Dory is also often used for making the ubiquitous British street food, fish and chips. Because of its mild flavor, it benefits from gentle seasoning.
This fish is mild in taste and low in fat content. Its thin profile and large head make for a rather low fillet yield, coming in at around one-third of the fish’s body weight. Il Palazzo Ducale di Mantova, noto anche come reggia dei Gonzaga, è uno dei principali edifici storici cittadini.
Dal 1308 è stata la residenza ufficiale dei signori di Mantova, i Bonacolsi, e quindi la residenza principale dei Gonzaga, signori, marchesi ed infine duchi della città virgiliana.
Ospitava il Gonzaga dominante del tempo, sua moglie, il figlio legittimo primogenito e gli altri figli legittimi sino alla maggiore età nonché gli ospiti importanti
Assunse la denominazione di Palazzo Reale durante la dominazione austriaca a partire dall'epoca di Maria Teresa d'Austria regnante.
Ambienti distinti e separati tra loro furono costruiti in epoche diverse a partire dal XIII secolo, inizialmente per opera della famiglia Bonacolsi successivamente su impulso dei Gonzaga. Fu il duca Guglielmo ad incaricare il prefetto delle Fabbriche Giovan Battista Bertani perché collegasse i vari edifici in forma organica così da creare, a partire dal 1556, un unico grandioso complesso monumentale e architettonico, uno dei più vasti d'Europa (34.000 m² circa ), che si estendeva tra la riva del lago Inferiore e Piazza Sordello, l'antica Piazza di San Pietro. Morto Bertani nel 1576, l'opera fu proseguita da Bernardino Facciotto che completò l'integrazione di giardini, piazze, loggiati, gallerie, esedre e cortili, fissando definitivamente l'aspetto della residenza ducale.
Nei quattro secoli di dominazione gonzaghesca la reggia si espanse gradualmente, sia con aggiunta di nuove costruzioni, sia modificando quelle esistenti . Si formarono diversi nuclei che presero il nome di:
Corte Vecchia, comprendente gli edifici più antichi verso piazza Sordello
Domus Nova, edificata da Luca Fancelli
Corte Nuova, di fronte al lago, costruita da Giulio Romano e successivamente ampliata dal Bertani e dal Viani
Basilica palatina di Santa Barbara, costruita dal Bertani.
Del complesso facevano parte anche alcuni edifici e cortili demoliti, tra i quali la Palazzina della Paleologa e il Teatro di corte.
L'interno del palazzo è quasi spoglio poiché, in seguito a ristrettezze finanziarie i Gonzaga, iniziando dal duca Ferdinando, alienarono opere d'arte (soprattutto a Carlo I d'Inghilterra) e arredi, mentre di quanto rimase, una parte fu successivamente sottratta in epoca napoleonica.
I terremoti dell'Emilia del 2012 hanno provocato inizialmente danni ad alcune sale del palazzo gonzaghesco (Sala di Manto, Galleria dei Mesi, Corridoio del Bertani). Il palazzo, chiuso dal 20 maggio 2012 , è stato successivamente riaperto alla visite turistiche solo parzialmente, dovendosi procedere a importanti opere di ripristino in Corte Nuova, l'ala del palazzo maggiormente danneggiata dalle scosse telluriche. Ben più gravi sono risultati i danni causati dalle scosse del 29 maggio che oltre a peggiorare le lesioni risalenti alla scossa del 20, hanno colpito il campanile della Basilica palatina di Santa Barbara e il Castello di San Giorgio
